I'm really glad you learned that the G in Pitigliano is silent. There are a LOT of silent Gs in Italian names. The blue thermal baths were really something special to see. I didn't know there was one of those in Tuscany, but I have seen photos and video of the ones just like these in China, somewhere in the northern part of China, I believe. I saw it (originally) on Martin Yan's Chinese travel series of shows that was on five or ten years ago.

Allison, your yellow gelato flavor is called Zuppa Inglese which is sort of like an English Trifle but is now a traditional Italian dessert (kinda like Yellow Tiramisú), which is amazingly popular in Northern and Central Italy. @@Linda-k5d6d Not here in the states, I don't even think it'd be enough for a first course but then again lots of folks from different countries always question our dietary habits and say that our portions are out of control. We'd eat 3-400 grams of Spaghetti and Sauce pretty easily over here for takeout or at a restaurant and that might be underestimating it just a touch even though I guess a traditional proper serving would technically be about 150-200 grams I suppose.

The trouble I'm having is the rental car ... I see in your videos that you rented a car... any intel you can share on that piece. Who did you rent from, what to look out for, how was the driving, did you find it difficult to navigate the small roads, any other pieces of info you can give me will be most helpful

Great video 👍. We took Pitigliano out of our itinerary, now we have another reason to come back to Italy. 10:04 I don’t think they put butter in the pasta in Tuscany or anywhere in Italy, the creaminess comes from the starchy water where the pasta was previously cooked

Tuscany is gorgeous, my best friend is from there. Great content y'all!! Okay.. So about those little red worms, do they "invade your body?" Like your mouth or ears or down below??? Serious question. Sorry if I offended anyone. Just wondering.
@tiamia71395 жыл бұрын
I was concerned as well and did some online research. It says that the red worms in those springs are harmless but the spa empties all of its waste water, including bath water and toilet water, into the springs. I have always made it a rule not to swim or dive in freshwater because it can contain deadly parasites. A young girl recently died in my state after jumping into a river. The parasite traveled through her nasal passages to her brain and she died in a few days. Certain parasites target certain organs - brain, lungs, liver, kidneys. The doctors said that if she had just swallowed the river water, she'd be alive today because the enzymes in our stomach are strong enough to kill a lot of parasites. I only swim in the ocean - salt water. If you want to swim in rivers, it's best to wear nose plugs and even then parasites can still enter the body. Not worth the risk.
@elizabethw.4545 жыл бұрын
@@tiamia7139 oh my word that's terrifying! 😱😱 so sad people have died from that.
@tiamia71395 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethw.454 it will make you think twice before you jump into a river or lake. I water skied in younger years on the Potomac River and on the nearby Mattawoman Creek, which was great for trick skiing because it was smooth as glass. It was also inhabited by many, many (poisonous) water snakes. That was way back in the 60s and we were so focused on the snakes that we never thought about parasites!!
@PFC27785 жыл бұрын
@@tiamia7139 same!! God bless her family. Definitely not worth the risk. Maybe just put our feet in if we are ever blessed enough to to Tuscany. 🙏
@anti-macro4 жыл бұрын
Those red worms are nothing more than lake flies in their larval stage - absolutely harmless under all aspects both in their adult and larval form while also being an important source of food for the local fauna. They're also an incredibly important bioindicator used to monitor climate changes and the presence of possible pollutants in the water (which would otherwise kill the larvae). The real problem of those hot springs are tourists, unfortunately - they crowd it year round and some of them regrettably don't respect the place at all, leaving it in a sorry state. The provincial government had to really step up efforts recently to try and keep the springs in their original state. So if you ever end up here in Tuscany I'd definitely recommend visiting them and Saturnia in general, but maybe skip the swim if the springs are already overcrowded. And I'm sure I don't need to say this, but please respect the place and don't litter 🙏

I have driven around the Monte Argentario Island that Porto Ercole is located on. I would recommend that if you do drive that it is an all terrain vehicle as the road around half of the island is fully mountainous and not tarmac-ed plus the road skirts the cliff edge so not for the faint hearted. I managed to do it in a Peugeot 5008 and that was a silly vehicle for the road surface.
