45 years ago we had no speedskims or flexibility floats.. we used a stiff Marshall and aluminium Darby....with a lot of skill.👍

100% right mate these flexible trowels and spatulas may make life easier but the standard of work is nothing like using a solid one. Ask any old school decorator who has been around a while you will get the honest truth!

The refina superflex 2 18inch is pretty good, i find its stiffer than the midi

Then flattered with a spat then second coat with a 16-inch trial brings the work lovely every time then finish with a superflex this method works for me

Good video as always. I have had tennis elbow and had to do it this way to get a smooth finish. Like you said though, it doesn’t compress the plaster the same and it also depends on skill level. I seen some people do it because it’s easier and had to go over their work because it’s too wavy, creating more work 😡. If you had a physical reason not to flatten with a rigid trowel, that’s fine. We all have to make a living, but those that don’t shouldn’t. I have gone back to flattening with a rigid trowel, it is flatter and Polish with a flexible trowel as they were designed.

if your a good plasterer, laying on and finishing wit an 18" medi is not a problem! it only gives u an issue if u can't see the mistakes u made while laying on ( that's the diff between a good plasterer nd a shit one!!)
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot10 ай бұрын
@@lion-0202how so? Plaster is designed to be flattened as the process goes on, how can you flatten with a trowel that moves with the bumps and hollows? I agree that you can apply with any kind of trowel, but you still need to flatten and trowel up with something stiff besides the final lick over
@voodoocars21342 жыл бұрын
I lay on the first coat, flat it with my superflex then repeat for the second coat. Then I trowel up for finishing later with the superflex. Do it all the time no probs.

has anyone ever tried to roll multi-finish plaster on the wall (using a paint roller) rather than using a hawk & trowel??? i've seen a few videos where this has been done with jointing compounds (similar to easyfill) followed by a flatten with a stainless steel spat & was thinking if the same could be done with multi-finish. i know its not the 'normal way' to apply multi-finish here in the UK - but would love to hear if anyone has tried it.

@@AlexMorleyPlastering cool mate. Are you using it more often now? Could I ask after sponging and taking lines out with mediflex when do you give it its second flatten and wet trowel? Wanna try it out. Any tips would be appreciated. P.s nice Instagram pic!! 😂👊

Steel Marshall Town first coat, flatten off with refina spat or speed skim whichever suits, lay down with MT, 1st pass MT then ox ultra flex then cross trowel either ultra flex or ox plastic, works well for me, each to there own 👍

You can flatten with a medi or supaflex2 anyway just not lay on
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot2 жыл бұрын
Surely laying on with one is fine, How you apply it in my opinion isn’t the issue, it’s how you flatten it. Same as tape and jointing, it’s not how you put it on, but how you take it off and feather it in for example
