For those wondering, for the 1.16 snapshots where the crosses and dots that are interchangeable, the Redstone in the back that keeps the fuel line powered, make sure the Redstone dots are crosses. There appears to be a glitch with the system in 1.15.2 You build everything the same, then come to the end of the project, all your coal is going to get stopped up in a hopper adjacent to a single piece of redstone in the back. To fix this, you just have to break the hoppers that coal gets stuck in, and replace them. For whatever reason, when you place the redstone after the hopper, the hopper does not get powered and locked. just replacing the hoppers fixes the problem.

Mine seems to be just sending all the coal to the furnaces, some of them are getting double the amount for some reason. I built it carefully as the video showed, also the middle 12-15 aren't getting anything to smelt. (1.15.2) found the issue you mentioned and it still doesn't want to drop any smeltable materials down through the hopper into the #8-19 furnace starts working again after that. tried replacing all the hoppers, there is no difference in the way they are all arranged. it's a mystery.

Latest is on a Spigot 1.13.2 server and it works beautifully after I found the 2 hoppers that had gotten locked and refused to unlock. I had to break them and place new ones.. Still works in 1.17, but here's a few things to note: All Redstone dots on the fuel section should be crosses. Many people covered this when explaining the 1.16 section The first time you power it up 7 different furnaces at seemingly random points didn't get coal, but the second try worked perfect. Don't know what went wrong

A few fixes for Java 1.17.1: If some of your furnaces are not receiving items to smelt, you'll need to change the delay of the 4 repeaters along the top. With the 23 furnaces, I had success with setting the repeaters, starting with the one closest to the comparator, to 4 tick delay, then 3, 2, and 1 for the last repeater closest to the chests. You will also need a redstone torch between each of the repeaters along the top (total of 3). You can see him place 2 of them at 7:55. Just don't forget to add the 3rd! I haven't had any issues with the fuel line, but it would be a good idea to check out his blast furnace array and copy what he does for the fuel line there. That way you don't have to worry about a hopper locking because it's full.

This is already a classic design and belongs on every survival server and singleplayer world :D I've created the habit of building up a furnace array of this design on each of my farms that produces smeltable output, preferrably with either a carpet duper as fuel source, if it is allowed, or stocking it up with a bunch of kelp blocks, in which case I'm putting an item counter in-between, counting 20*23 items before giving them through to the smelter, to make sure there is no wasted kelp. So yeah, thanks for creating this!

Awesome, always keep improving and upgrading. I've always wanted to make a perfect furnace array that distributes the items perfectly. I made my own version using hopper minecarts, and guess what. It was bulky and complicated, but it did work. It used clocks to let the hopper minecarts stock up and then distribute and two item elevators. It still skipped a hopper every 11 hoppers if facing a certain way.

Amazingly, this works in 1.6.4, perfectly. The world download crashed my game the first time and the second time all of the Signs and Item Frames disappeared; but it works fine. Building the thing according to the tutorial on my 1.6 Spigot server also works. Whatever that "locational Hopper" bug was, it certainly doesn't go back as far as 1.6.

If you place enough items in the input on the double speed array such that each furnace gets 2+ items, e.g. 5.75 stacks worth for 8 per furnace, the last two furnaces on each side are imbalanced by 1 item. I've confirmed this in plain vanilla 1.12.2 with the world download. It seems having that dropper there causing the one hopper to pull instead of having an item pushed throws the timing off a bit. If you build it two blocks wider you can wrap the hoppers from the top input chest around to avoid interference with the fuel line and w/o needing a dropper. This resolved the issue for me. Other alternate form factors would also work. I didn't see this mentioned in any comments, so perhaps this will save somebody some frustration. Thanks for the tutorial!

Was having a little trouble with this in a 1.16.4 world, but eventually realized I had placed the redstone torches incorrectly. In the walkthrough, it's almost given as arbitrary "Just keep the line active" placement, but the places those torches are actually matter. The lines of the blocks above have tight timing, and if you put the torches anywhere else, you might end up with furnaces being skipped/doubled up on item drops.

Hey ilmango, i used your auto cobble farm in my favorite server... I had a problems with a plugin that forbidden the redstone clock (it reemplace the redstone into signs when detect a clock), so my friemd and me did a diferent design holding the same essence... And we win, it work! (no redstone cables) only repeaters, observers and other things that remplaced the redstone... That produccion was an adventure because we fail with bugs of the server... The last bug we have is the dupper... We dont know why but when we leave the chunk of the dupper, this last self destroying... But we could farm so many cobble... This is working on my 1.16.1 vanilla server. Others are saying it does not work. Here is what I suggest: 1. Make sure any single dust pieces are crosses, not dots. 2. Before running the system for the first time, manually power cycle all the redstone lines that are powered on. 3. Put the comparator reading the top line of hoppers to subtract mode (not sure if this makes a difference but it's how it is in the download world). Hope this helps someone.

I built the 46 Furnace configuration exactly as portrayed with all the redstone fixes/suggestions listed here applied. The top hopper array for the smelting items works perfectly as designed, but the fuel distribution is way off in 1.16.3 build. I redesigned the fuel hopper array redstone in a way that keeps the same timings Ilmango provided - but does not depend on the same configuration - which appears to avoid the bugs introduced in the 1.16 series. It now works perfectly - a 1-1 distribution every single time, no failures, skipped furnaces or misplaced fuel items.

Nice. Gotta say, though, that I would still go for minecarts to distribute the items and collect them - an average of just over two hoppers per furnace is much more achievable earlier on than over five! Minecart distribution also scales trivially to almost any number of furnaces (with very large numbers of furnaces, the minecart wouldn't complete it's journey quick enough to keep all furnaces running non-stop but you would far exceed any reasonable output system's limits long before having this many furnaces! :-) ). I find I smelt more in the early game than in the late game (once you have an iron and gold farm and a fire aspect sword, I struggle to think of anything other than sand and netherrack that I'd want to smelt) so I'd prefer a cheaper furnace array. I applaud your choice of planks as a fuel source. For only one item less smelting efficiency compared to charcoal, you gain a hard limit of one item of wasted smelting per entire job. This means you never need to worry about fuel efficiency when using your furnace array for smaller jobs (making your minecraft world more luxurious). For me, the star of your video, though, was the various and elegant ways you used repeaters to propagate a signal without leaving any gaps. A very nice source of reference on this. :-)

if you built it before release 1.13 you need to unpower redstone line for fuel and power redstone line for items and then return everything to the original state. probably on 1.13 there is a bug when hoppers do not know that they are power after upgrading to 1.13

Using item distributors this thing can be made absolutely insane. The item distributor is the limit with this one, there's a design made by Beast that outputs to 64 different hoppers, meaning that if you made two (one for coal and one for smelting) you could make 64 of these arrays which is 1472 furnaces and 529,920 items/h or 147.2 items per second. The guy also says it could be expanded to a 128 item distributor which would just make it twice as insane as what I just said there (2994 furnaces, 1,059,840 items/h and 294.4 items per second)

Hi Ilmango, I have a question: Since 1.14 we have Bamboo in MC. I tried to tweek this 1.11+ farm with the Fuel Loading of your new blast furnace array, but with normal furnace. I got some Issues with the equal inserting of Bamboo, the timing doenst fit. If I make the new Short Version, I guess the Items to smelt cames to fast for a normal furnace? I did some rough calculations on this furnance array in the case you want to make a bamboo farm to supply it. Assuming you will be burning items 24/7, you'd need around 35328 bamboo per hour. A single bamboo plant produces roughly 20 bamboo per hour. You would need 1767 bamboo stalks, so a good shape would be a 40×45 farm. Do not forget the fact that hopper speed is 9000 items per hour, so you would get a bottleneck. In that sittuation the best thing to do is to either run the farm with breaks or find a way to quadruple your fuel intake ( maybe hopper minecarts??). Nevertheless, good luck, people!

Hey Ilmango, you've been talking about efficiency. I did notice that for some reason (since 1.11 or 1.12) a stack of 8 coal is sometimes not enough to smelt up a stack of 64 items. Is there already a bug report for this (I'd guess so)? Is it already known (guess so, too)? Thanks in advance.

So as long as I don't leave a chunk, it shouldn't reset? If yes, something is / was wrong... Will have to test this again, but: I have 16 furnaces, put 8 (char)coal as fuel and 64 wood logs as material in each, to get "some more" (char)coal. After some time, all furnaces were off. When checking their output, I found several (sometimes one, sometimes multiple) furnaces with one log remaining and 63 coal in output. I did not leave the area, it's a SMP server (does smelting happen serverside or clientside?), vanilla (bukkit for anti-grief). Starting a test in a few minutes...

in vanilla it should work. keep in mined that bukkit, spigot etc. is modded minecraft and pretty much everything could be changed at the server owner's will. some plugins could mess with it.

@@bbaker3663 I built it the day I posted in 1.19.2 vanilla. Make sure your spacing is correct for the repeaters in the back. From the back torch on the outside, the first two have 6 dust between torch>repeater>repeater and the rest have five with the lines on the fuel hoppers. Also doublecheck the repeaters on the hoppers are set to the correct 3 ticks, and the the outside repeater on the floor is also set correctly at 3 ticks. As you fill in fuel the circuit in the back should activate, depowering the hoppers and allowing it to pass.

FOR PEOPLE HAVING ISSUES WITH FUEL DELIVERY. Pro tip (not really idk); if you plan on dumping every shred of coal into the system it'll work perfectly fine if you have enough to fill the furnaces and the 23 bottom hoppers +1 or more in the top. However, if you don't have that much excess coal and the bottom hoppers are only partially filled the furnaces will not refill with coal unless you are putting more into the system. An easy fix to this is to place a lever at the back of the system to manually unlock the bottom hoppers allowing them to drain into the furnaces. reply to this comment if you want a description of exactly where this lever is placed.

I have a little issue, so every furnace is working okay but the third furnace is just not getting fuel, I really don't understand what is happening, I've been watching this video over and over again and literally looked up every single block along the third furnace and I really don't understand why only the third furnace isn't getting fuel... I built a horseshoed 46 furnace version on PS4. It works well with even numbers of items, but if an odd number of items/fuel is put in, it's not smart enough to keep those together. I've found leftover items/fuel in furnaces. Is this typical, or did I do something wrong? Thank you!

finally got it working, my stupidity, I put upside down staircases for the dust line which didn't work, I also had to add dust to the line where the fuel chest went around the corner inline with the smelting chest, (if that makes sence), and thanks works very well in the end

I wouldn't call carpets an inferior fuel source. I have a machine set to dupe them until the input chest is full, at which point carpets stop being made. For this reason I still like your old system. But this design I will definitely use in other places in my world!

I personally don't like using duped carpets for fuel. I think it's more fun to build a tree farm and make charcoal etc. also you would need to adjust the fuel system if you want to use carpets continuously.

I would make a few carpet dupers (one is probably enough) and a water stream that fills up the hoppers. by doing some calculations you can find out the number of required dupers. additional carpet could be destroyed by a cactus in order to not lag the game. blaze rods are fine.

Hi, ur question is 4 Years old and may be this account does not even exist anymore, but I just used that design and faced the same problem with a connected bamboo farm. I solved it by just putting a double chest between the fuel hoppers and the furnace, so overall u have to build (8:20) two blocks back and one block higher than he did. Connect the bottom hopper to a double chest and the chest to the hoppers.

@@adki64370 Te furnace array runs out of fuel before smelting the whole stack because items like bamboo or carpets burn too fast, so that the distribution contraption can not keep up. What u have to do is simply put a double chest between the fuel distribution hoppers and the hopper which puts the fuel into the furnace. The distribution will run until the double chest is full, so overall u get 54 + 5 + 1 stack off fuel to directly enter the furnace every hopper tick. Without that, u have just 5 + 1. (54 or the double chest, 5 for the hopper, 1 for the furnace) Make sure tho that between the smelting there should be enough time for the chest to fill up again. For me u can smelt up to 2 full skulkers, and then it depends on your bamboo farm how long u have to wait before u can run it again. To make that last claim a bit easier, if u use it in a normal survival world without you building megastructures with the furnace running non-stop it will be fine. If you however want it to run 24/7 better choose another furnace design or attach a charcoal farm.

EDIT: Apparently it's _very_ important that you place the smeltables hoppers in exactly the right order, including the lower ones. Place all the lower ones in order starting from the end the comparator will go, then do the same for the top ones. Slightly different order may work fine if you're lucky, but in my case it didn't. If it's broken, remove all the hoppers and place them again from scratch, and remember to re-place the redstone dust that's on top of some of them. After I started following that order it's all working perfectly even on a Spigot server. -I'm having a weird issue that's different to most people. The equal distribution is fine, but the timing seems slightly off in certain locations. Almost like it's taking 201 or 202 game ticks per cycle. I'm using a carpet duper as fuel so I'm not so worried about fuel efficiency but the furnaces blinking off for a moment gets a bit annoying and also causes unnecessary light updates. Building the exact same thing block for block in some locations works properly, other locations have the same issue. It doesn't seem to be caused by chunk borders. My current workaround is just to set one of the 3-tick repeaters to 2 ticks in broken locations.-

I do have a problem with it. I use scaffolding for fuel (unlimited bamboo & string and it burns two items per scaffolding, it's almost an ideal fuel source). I fill the fuel chest full of scaffolding and fill the input chest with something to smelt (say sand). But the furnaces are soon full of scaffolding and the fuel input hoppers are getting backlogged. I continue to smelt, and it doesn't take long until all the scaffolding is in the input hoppers but the furnaces aren't finished. At that point, no more fuel is being fed into the system (it shouldn't need any more, I added twice the fuel necessary for the job), but it's all stuck in the hoppers, and none is being fed into the furnaces. My solution was to run a line from the input comparator to the block that receives the signal from the fuel comparator. This would cause the input line to trigger fuel to go into the furnaces. It would mean possibly more fuel in the furnaces than you need, but since there is no way with this system to calibrate the fuel type, too much fuel is better than too little fuel.

Meanwhile, in my singleplayer world, I don't usually use more than one furnace at a time, and if I do, it's because it's an array of fully manual smelters as opposed to my primitive yet functional auto-smelter design. I'm a slow builder so I can just keep a single auto-smelter running in the background for whatever smelted materials I need. When using manual furnaces, I'm limited to as many stacks of input items as I have furnaces, and that's the only reason I need more than one furnace.
