Great beginner lessons! I started learning guitar in January 2021, beginning with buying a new set of Martin extra light strings and stringing one of my son's guitars by myself. I learned to tune the guitar myself after that, and found my first KZbin beginner lesson for "Where do the Children Play" by Cat Stevens, using only 4 chords. I'm going to be 59 yrs old this year, and it's always been a dream of mine to learn to play. My 25 year old son has been playing for 10 years and he's impressed with my progress. This will be my 5th song I want to "master" after 3 months of playing. Well, at least play well enough to play and sing it for my wife. My goal is to be a VERY GOOD amateur guitarist by the time I retire in 5 or 6 years. To all those learning out there like me, you CAN do it! Pick up the guitar every day even if it's only 10 minutes! Be patient with yourself and keep learning from awesome, realistic, teachers like Kurt!

Hello! Beginner guitarist here. I love your tutorials and subbed to ur channel. Quick question, when you play chords, do you strum on all strings or are there some strings that are not played on for certain chords?

That's a hard question to answer.. It depends on how full the chord sounds and how many strings your left hand presses down make the chord... E.g 10th fret bar and form the E shape on 11th and 12th fret is a Dmajor chord, you strum all 6 strings because its a full chord where your left hand is barring and holding down strings (plus the open strings) that make up a D chord (DF#A) But the most known D on fret 2 and 3, you strum 4 strings because only those last 4 strings have the makeup for a Dmajor chord (DF#A) There are ATLEAST 7 ways to form every major chord and each formation will differ on how many strings you strum if u can, perhaps get a guitar with a built in tuner that shows the note you play and you'll understand chords so much better, if u don't already know all the notes on the guitar we'll by yourself In this video though, the G he plays, you strum all 6, then for the Em you strum 6 also, for the c you strum the last 5(A to the high E), for the D you strum the last 4(D to high E) Hope I was able to elaborate.

i had the same issue when i was learning my first few songs but after a lot of practice i got the hang of it and i was able to play and sing at the same time. Just know it takes some time and a lot of practice but you'll get there.

you litterately need to slow your entire timing. listen to the song as you sing it while AIR struming. then your muscle memory will correct you without you noticing till your already doing it. you should only notice yourself sing. this is what i did to fix my issue with it
