The Proton is the smoothest nicest envelope filter I ever tried. I ordered one based on a few videos I saw of it. Cuts back on the "icepick to the forehead" treble harshness a lot of the filters out there can produce.

Dude. Ur the man. I wanted to try getting a phish cover band together. But impossible to get 4 musicians to commit. So I’m happily moving on to a dead cover band. I’ve been watching ur videos for about a week and thanks for everything

thanks for sharing all this stuff. I appreciate you breaking it all down and letting us hear them in the chain as it goes and then different combos for different sounds. I know pedals and their chains is a whole thing for guitarists, and I'm a newb, so it's great having you break it down for me :) Amazing sound you constructed!

I have experimented with every collection of pedals out there and after years of trying, I have achieved Jerry's sound with just 3 pedals listed below. I have found that the Hub Bub Pro along with the Korg ToneWorks AX100G set on Funky and the MXR phase 100 gives you almost an exact match to Jerry's unique underwater sound. I also use the Boss DS-1 pedal to add and soften my tone. I play it thru a Marshall DSL head set on clean channel most of the time but if you dime it out, the ultra gain channel sounds sweet with this combo too, Aloha!

Did Jerry use a reverb unit called the Tube Works Stereo Spring Reverb? I own one of those, and it’s a pretty awesome reverb unit.

I would recommend Analog mans Astro Tone for a real good fuzz before the envelope, it really gives me the jerry tone, and its one of the best pedals ever made imo

Thanks Davvy! It’s fun to see how you’re making you’re own sounds. Question about having your envelope filters so deep in the chain. I was under the impression that those worked best closer to the guitar. Thoughts? Why did you choose to put them where they are. They sound great. Also any noise suppression or hiss reduction in your rig? It sounds super clean.
@TobyDavvy10 ай бұрын
You always wanna have your modulation effects (octave, envelope filter, delay, reverb) at the very end of your chain. That way your other pedals pass through them instead of your envelope running through the rest of them. And no, no hiss reduction.
@kapstersmusic10 ай бұрын
@@TobyDavvy one thing I found with having the envelope filter after a distortion pedal is that the distortion can compress the gain envelope and make you lose a little bit of the touch sensitivity on the filter. 3 leaf audio actually made an envelope called the Wonderland that had its own effect loop, so that filter could open up based on how hard you played, but still modulate all the other effects like distortion that were in the effects loop.
@BrianBowes10 ай бұрын
Thank you @@TobyDavvy for the response! Appreciate your time and energy! Maybe I'll try placing my envelope filter after the drive just for fun!
@BrianBowes10 ай бұрын
Yes, @@kapstersmusic, while I didn't know about the compression of the distortion, it was the touch sensitivity that I was curious about.
@kapstersmusic10 ай бұрын
@@BrianBowes That's one reason I happen to like the Proton. The gain is super easy to dial to get the desired amount of touch response, even with some overdrive compression. The rest of the controls have lots of good sounds, almost hard to find a bad sound once the gain is set right.
