Wow Ms Paige! You knocked it out of the park with those corners! No more trying to hold it all together, and the fact that the seams are .5" is a Lot better than 3/8"! Blessings to you!

I like that you did the final press AFTER you did the corners... I prefer not to work with a ¼" initial turn. I watched a few and this one is the best by far. Great tutorial! Do you prefer to work with decorator weight cotton?? Quilting cotton seems a bit too light weight for this.
@PaigeHandmade3 жыл бұрын
I used quilting cotton for these because they are for simple, everyday use. I would use something much nicer for formal dinner napkins. Linen or heavier cotton.

Thank you for the information on how to do this. I do have a question though. The way you showed leaves a raw edge visible, which looks good on your quilting fabric, but I'm making altar clothes from silky materials and the edges don't look so neat and pretty raw. Do I just flip them again before the corner stitches then flip them inside right and stitch down to avoid a raw edge? Thank you in advance.
@PaigeHandmade Жыл бұрын
The edge gets turned again in this method so there is no raw edge. Just keep watching and you'll see how it gets the second turn.

What is the finished size of your napkins? 14 x 14? So you're cutting them 16" x 16"? New sewer here, so forgive my ignorance. :)
@PaigeHandmade3 ай бұрын
Correct. With a half inch seam turned twice (for a clean edge) you'll lose 1 inch per side. So 16x16 becomes 14x14. You can customize the napkins so much. For a more formal napkin you can make them larger with deeper seams, but you'll use a lot more fabric. The napkins demonstrated in this video are perfect for everyday, informal napkins.

Thank you for sharing Paige. I’m having trouble with the corners. How far from the corners do you draw the perpendicular line fir stitching? Thank you 🙏

The perpendicular line that you draw and stitch will be the depth of the hem, so adjust according to your desired hem.

@nancybrown997711 ай бұрын
When I did this for 14 napkins, my result ended up as yours did at 2:55--kind of a box shape, with none of the corners lying flat. I went through and redid all of them, making the stitch line a little lower (further into the napkin) and the angle of the stitching, rather than perpendicular to the folded edge, a fair amount smaller (less than 90 degrees). With these changes, I got all of the hems to lay flat and not buckle as I stitched it down.

Hi! Thanks so much for the easy to follow and clear tutorial on mitered corner napkins! A few years ago I tried making mine with others tutorials and I was unable to make any because it was so difficult to follow. They whipped them up so fast I couldn’t reproduce what they were doing. This!! Oh my! I made a few already and they turned like a pro made them! 😆 haha not a pro but they turned out so well. Only thing to note was it would have been easier if the camera is facing the same way so it was not upside down. I had to try to figure out how you were facing and flipped my corners trying to figure out what you were doing rewinding the video several times. 😅 lol. But I finally got them. Thanks! I almost gave up making napkins. And the video on how to, along with the blog (dimensions) helps. Thanks so much!! New subscriber here!! 😊❤
