I remember my dad showed me thisbmovie when i was 12 and i was lile "for an 80s movie with effects that look dated, this is impressive for the time it was made". This became one of my favprote endings to a movie

I was 16 when it played in an independent theater in Louisville Kentucky. The mid 1980s were stuffed with effects-heavy science fiction movies (the first Star Wars trilogy was in the process of coming out, for example). I preferred hard science fiction like 2001: a Space Odyssey, though, even as a teenager, and The Quiet Earth was just right for me: I appreciated how restrained and understated the story was. My other favorite film that year, at the time, was Terry Gilliam's "Brazil".
