I’ve never met another American who’s seen this movie, even sci-fi buffs my age (50ish), but everyone I’ve met from Europe, Japan, Australia, and of course New Zealand has seen it and loves it just as much as I do.

If it makes you feel better, I'm the same. Nobody I know has ever watched nor heard about this gem and I don't think they'd be able to appreciate the story telling frankly. I was in a dark place when I watched it. The ending was so beautiful it shook me

@@Alaskanman : Right? If it was an American film, it would have just ended in a gunfight between the two guys like our audiences expect…and have been a shadow of the film it actually was. The sacrifice at the end…then Saturn rising…powerfully majestic! Btw, I was feeling pretty hopeless in life myself at the time. The portrayal of his fall into lonely despair hit me hard since it mirrored my own feelings. Such a timeless movie.

@@______IV Yeah, you need to have a certain mindset to appreciate this film. It's been a long time since I've seen it yet the ending still haunts me to this day. It's truly unfortunate the scifi craze died down(now they mostly play the same). I've yet to see another experimental film that can push such a provoking ending. The thought of ending up in a beautiful parallel earth(or hell) alone shakes up something deep in me. Is it pure wonder or is it terror? Agree with you, it's a timeless classic

I have seen this film when i was about 14-15 Years old. The end scene was more impressing, than the entire film. Awesome.

One of the most impressive endworld-movies of the 80s. I love it, Zack Hobbson is the man.

Came across this movie at a Blockbuster store back in the 80's and I've never forgotten this ending. The story ending, the score, the scene: everything that makes for epic science fiction is all PERFECT in this ending.

I recognise this as the main theme for this film. This is a great science fiction film, one of my favourites.

So, *so* wrong, putting this picture on the disc cover! That scene should be discovered by the movie viewer, total surprise. Its probably the most shocking & thrilling part of any movie I've seen. So many times, promoters spoil a movie in trailers & such. I love this movie (have it) & have watched it, & listened to the music more times than I can say. Thanks so much for uploading it.

Nancy Myself I've seen the image EVERYWHERE before I saw the movie sadly. I've read somewhere that spoilers can actually make you enjoy whatever has been spoiled more. Depending on the content, spoiler and how much has been spoiled and what genre ect. Lots of variables.

awesine Unfortunately 99.999% of people still don’t understand that image. And to have a quote from Dr. Einstein on that image is just insult to injury..

The first swell in the first 15 seconds or so, is that sampled in Mobb Deeps - Shook Ones Pt. 2? It sounds similar and looped. Only for a little bit though. Amazing score for the sunrise by the way. I love how however this was filmed, whatever ISO, exposure and color timing..how at the bottom where the horizon is you see what looks similar to the energy and waves on the actual sun. Very cool opening to a movie.
