2019 update: Ok so reading some comments over the past 2 years, some of you have mentioned that some of the poached eggs were over cooked. When filming this video it was all done in multiple takes, as I moved the camera around to get the right shots for filming, which ultimately meant that some of the eggs were sitting around longer than I wanted, meaning they continued to cook a bit more in the residual heat. Also some of you are concerned about using clingfilm to poach the eggs. This is an age old chef's trick, but obviously you would use food safe cling film. If you are still concerned......simply don't use this method.

@@petuser1 it helps keep the egg whites together especially when you spin the water, when I just do straight up water I lose more egg whites and the egg doesn't look as smooth. Though some people don't agree

I use the cling film method. It's a bit more fiddly but it produces a neater result, and you have less water on the egg which otherwise makes the toast soggy. Plus you can prepare multiple eggs and cook them all at the same time much more easily.

Love a poached egg and I’ve used all those methods myself though personal preference is the (1st) traditional free flowing “let’s see how it goes” method 😄 , but I’ve a friend who loves poached eggs and despite every effort hasn’t a clue so bought him silicone poachers! Time to send him your masterclass! Well done on a straight-forward, no over-egging it (pardon the pun) how-to 👏🙌🏻

Hi Adam, I love the plastic wrap (cling film) way of poaching. I've used that at home. One of the ways, however, that I learned (no matter what method you use) is to crack your egg into a strainer to remove the very thin part of the white. Most eggs have a small amount of thin white and then a lot of thick white (raw, I mean). Once you strain off the watery, thin white, you don't have a lot of wispy areas floating in the water. Thanks so much for your great video!!!

It's overall the best thing to do, especially if you are wanting to make multiple eggs. If you use really fresh eggs (in the US, there is a number on the side of every egg carton, eggs collected on January 1st will have a 1, and December 31 will have 365) separate the outer white from the inner white with a fine mesh strainer, you can poach 4 eggs at once in the pot. Pop them in an ice water bath to stop them from cooking, and store in the fridge for 8 hours..when needed, just pop them in simmering water for about a minute to heat, done.

I made poached eggs in water for the first time this morning. (I have made them before but always in a tiny pan where you put water in the bottom, the egg in a 'scoop' on top and with a lid over it.) Today's effort came out very tasty but with a lot of nasty stringy 'foam' that I threw away. So I Googled how to do it properly for next time, and you came up! I love your simple, clear way of explaining how to do it and can't wait to try the cling film method tomorrow! Many thanks, it was very good information, I like the way you explain and show how to do things. Appreciated and subscribed!

Great video, thanks! Surprising and educating :) I've been using method #1 for a few years now and I recommend adding a tiny bit of vinegar to the water + not salting the water. (That said, I just treated myself to a cheap but effective 'egg poacher' - which is basically a small pan that comes with a metal surface that holds tiny plastic bowls - similarly to your ladle technique - it works really nicely!)

*Method 5* 1) Boil the kettle. 2) Using a non stick, low wall frying pan, add the smallest amount of water, literally so it just covers the floor of the pan. 3) Bring that to boil. 4) Turn your cooker off. 5) Take your pan off the hob and add as many eggs to the pan as you like. 6) Gently put it back on the now cooling hob until the base of the eggs start to set. Literally like 15 seconds. 7) Take the pan off the hob again and gently fill the shallow frying pan with Boiling water from your kettle until the water covers the tops of the egg yolk. 8) Leave for 1 minute max. 9) Scoop out with a flat spatula. 10) Enjoy the most PERFECT looking poached eggs you've ever seen! The initial shallow water keeps the egg white nice and flat. The result is like a perfect sunny side up fried egg minus the oil. Enjoy!

I use small ziplock bags with a bit of butter in one corner. Lay the bag down and rub bag to spread butter around in the corner. Add egg, close nearly completely and immerse in boiling water for approx 4min. Remove and scissor cut bag just above the egg to let it drop onto your toast. You can add a good shot of vinegar before the egg goes in if you're weird like me cause I always liked that flavor to my poached eggs. I like this method as it's quicker than plastic wrap but still allows you to get a batch ready to go ahead of time. I usually do 6 and when time is up I just grab all 6 bags out of the water at once.

Much easier is to add water to about an 8 oz cup. Enough to cover your egg with water once removed from its shell. Pop it in the microwave for 60 sec (less for a runnier egg). Experiment with the cook time until you get the egg you wish. Toast your English muffin or bread. Use a spoon with slits to remove the egg after the microwave is finished & place the egg on a paper towel to rest while you butter your toast. The towel will absorb excess water. Move the egg from the paper towel to your toast. Add chopped chives. Break your yoke a little & enjoy. Takes 70 seconds.

Prick the egg yoke to avoid "explosions". If the eggs comes directly from the fridge, add an extra half-minute.

Brilliant methods. I Usually use twirled in water but adding vinegar (man said it helps form the whites). For a flavor twist I steam or oven bake in ramekin layered to eat & dip right out of w/ my soldiers. When I need much more I bake multiples in oven so family can choose their own. You can steam 3 or so in large pan. Nan would twirl in 5 in vinegar water. Modem tip: if you can’t be bothered w/ all that, I microwave it. Nearly full Ramekin cook on high for 1 min to test. Microwaves power can vary so just try. Maybe 1:10 or 0:50. This is sumo for eggs & soldiers. Oh ya, use a splash cover as it can pop at the lay moment till u get it right
