Given the low temp that you smoked this at, I'm assuming that I couldn't do this with my 590? Am I wrong?

you can, just keep the temp on low and you won't need to smoke it as long

I occurs to me that simply using the smoke tube in a vented metal box might achieve the same low-temp cold smoking. No need for the pellet smoker at all?

I used the recteq ultimate blend, you might find Kingsford in your local area.

Awesome! if it was any hotter out i would probably have used a block of dry ice in the bottom of the cold box to ensure colder temps... South Carolina isnt known for cool weather so i was surprised at how well it turned out.

Anyone looking for a better cure for your salmon should look up Alton Brown’s smoked salmon. I’ve used it for the last 7 years! It’s wonderful
