The best soldering always starts with the setup. Be sure to have reasonable equipment, good solder, a clean board and parts, as well as the proper safety equipment (including glasses). Leave a comment if you would like a full tutorial.

Good video! Side note for the viewers though, keep your tip tinned if not soldering for a minute as it keeps the tip from oxidizing. And lead-free as shown in the video will eat your tips over time, don't be scared to replace them once they get worn.

Great points. Good lead free solder is better but I agree tips are consumable. Tanks for your input!

@@ScottCard lead-free is not better in any way other than being eco friendly alternative of the real stuff. Good tips can often outlive cheap station if you handle them properly.

I missed soldering!!! I was really good @ it and did a lot of reworks from engineers! I also build prototype for engineers! I love my job. But hubby retired and asked me to quit. So I did! ❤️

How to keep the tip clean

Start with a damp sponge. If it gets too dirty, you can use a tip activator. Thanks for the questions.
@manicdoom

Literally just use a damp tissue. Make it thick enough so it doesn’t burn you. That’s how the electricians I learned from do it. Not everything has to be over complicated.

@@manicdoomAgreed. When in the field it is a great solution. in the lab, the $1 for a sponge that fits the holder is not a big deal. haha. Thanks for the comment!

Does the solder stick close to the heat?
@ScottCard
@ScottCard 8 ай бұрын
Yes. When it melts, it flows towards the heat source but will also flow due to surface tension.

How mush wattage use for give me 350c
@ScottCard
@ScottCard 5 ай бұрын
The power will depend on the load. For example, if soldering a small pad, 25W may do the trick.if however you are soldering onto a large copper pour or large terminal, you may want 100W. I find 35W geys most of the work done, and the dudy cycle has lots of extra to give for heavier loads. Hope this helps. 😉

You holding the iron for 8-12 seconds at the joint. That's waaaaay too much. Shouldn't take more than 1-2 seconds. Wrong temp or bad flux.
@ScottCard
@ScottCard Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. You are correct that 8-12 seconds is too long but it is more like 4 seconds normally. Thermal transfer is the trick and the second joint does not have great contact. Be careful not to get too hot however as this will lift traces. This is a lead free solder by MG chemicals and is quite good. The iron is set to 330C and this is a 0.75mm conical tip (quite small).😇

Hmm. Often, it is a matter of a clean setup, good solder and flux, and correct temperature setting. I think I will make a more comprehensive video...just need more time ⏲️

@@ScottCard Can you explain how exactly I’m supposed to use flux? Like do I literally dip the soldering iron in it to make it work?
