As part of your journey, you really should watch some of the footage of the PMRC hearings, especially Dee Snider's testimony. One of the greatest moments in American music history is Dee Snider, John Denver, Frank Zappa and others. standing up for musicians rights of expression. It was glorious. And I can't remember if it was the main driving factor, but I know 2 Live Crew won their court case (an album had been banned, I believe) which the PMRC was also involved in.

This is Dee Snider, lead singer, front man and songwriter for Twisted Sister. BRAVO! Welcome to our world! THIS is why the 80's metal lives on. It's fun, passionate and filled with "the middle finger factor". Everything missing from a lot of today's music (and I love new metal bands). This is why you still hear it on shows like Cobra Kai and Peacemaker, and it is a go to at all sporting events. This is why my syndicated radio show "House of Hair" has been on for more than 26 years. FYI "I Wanna Rock" was our 2nd single and the video was the sequel to our first single and video "We're Not Gonna Take It". so you know what you gotta do next!

The "teacher" and "principal" were both in Animal House, which you should watch...it helps with this video and getting the inside jokes. Dee Snyder is not only a talented performer/musician, he is also an intelligent man and one of the nicest, most down to earth guys I have met. I met him while I was in the Navy in San Diego, I was in charge of the VIP lounge in the air terminal and we often had celebrities as well as high ranking officers pass through. Most of the celebrities were flying out to one of the carriers to observe carrier operations and meet the crew. He was travelling with one other person (not an entourage) and was very personable. I was checking up on him (to see if he needed anything) and he asked if there was somewhere to catch a bite to eat, I told him the roach coach had just came through but I could get her back if he wanted and he just said that's ok, so I offered to take him to her and he was like cool, let's go. We jumped into my truck and I drove him to her, we talked about mundane stuff on the way and while waiting for food. We talked motorcycles, my job and what he could expect going out to the ship. It was genuinely a great discussion. He signed some stuff for my staff and I told him my Department head was disappointed to have missed him, so he took pictures of himself kicked back, feet up, on my Commanders desk. I had some photo paper and we printed it out and he signed the picture and wrote "Hey Mike, nice f*^%ing desk" Stay Hungry Dee. He also testified at the PMRC hearings (as others have mentioned). Great guy!!

FYI…The teacher was the actor who played Needlemeyer in Animal House and for this video acted like him again as in the pledge pin scene of Animal House. The seltzer bottle dude was Flounder in the same movie. Flounder gets his revenge in this video. Great reaction thank you!!!

I saw Twisted Sister in a small club in Hartford, Ct (Agora Ballroom) in 1983, right before this album was released, there was about 500 people there. The band was walking around the crowd before and after the show, meeting the fans, they were really good dudes to speak with and have a drink with. Fond memories!!

The lead singer with all the blonde hair is Dee Snider, a metalhead and true believer in Rock and Roll. He has gone to courts and before Congress to defend popular music and artistic freedoms. He still has a syndicated metal show that broadcasts in almost all major markets. It's too bad Twisted Sister didn't do better than they did. Often people confuse them with Quiet Riot, who had a similar sound. But Twisted Sister are the ones whose videos pay homage to the movie Animal House.
@zackman112882 жыл бұрын
I'm seeing it a lot below, but "We're Not Gonna Take It" is probably the biggest hit Twisted Sister had. I'd also like to suggest you guys listen to Alice Cooper at some point. "Poison" is my favorite, but he's got a lot of other great songs like "School's Out", "Eighteen", "Welcome to My Nightmare". Alice was known for putting on elaborate stage shows with things like guillotines, straight jackets, and other shocking types of things. Pretty sure Alice is still touring at almost 75 years old.

I'm so happy you all reacted to Twisted Sister today! I hope you can react to their song The Price. It's an amazing power ballad by them. You should also look up the lead singer Dee Snyder's speech to Congress defending free speech/rock music. His speech was great.

The teacher and the guy at the end that said "Oh boy, is this great' are actors from the movie Animal House. In fact, the line 'oh boy is this great, is the line he's best known for in that movie. He played Flounder, a legacy pledge, and the teacher guy plays the jerk ROTC leader who hated their fraternity.

Dee Snider is definitely one of the greatest personalities to come out of the hair metal band era!! I'm not sure if he still does it but a few years back he had a syndicated radio show that I heard on some stations out west when I was truck driving, but, also quite possibly could be on Sirius Radio!! He's very entertaining as a disc jockey!!

When this first came out and was flooding the MTV/MuchMusic airwaves, my older brother just had a son, who was around 2 or 3 in 1984. As all kids will, it was "monkey see monkey do" and when the little guy saw the "teens" banging their heads against the lockers during the "Rock! (Rock!) Rock! (Rock!)" part, he copied it by bonking his little head against his dad's loudspeaker that stood taller than he did, lol. My brother sees this and just shook his head with some concern over the "questionable influence". He wasn't one of those conservative stiffs by any means - he liked smoking weed and liked rock music, but he was more of a "FM classic rock" guy and didn't go for much of the heavy metal. It's just funny how seeing kids headbang in a music video was one of those "dangerous influences", which by comparison to what's out there TODAY, it's really laughable now that such visuals were ever any kind of threat to anyone - youth or otherwise.

This video came out in 1984, and was part of the soundtrack for my eighth grade year. In 2014 I had the pleasure of meeting the singer, Dee Snider, at the Texas Frightmare Weekend horror movie convention in Dallas, TX and he was such a nice guy. We took a pic and I got an autograph for my son. I told him he was supposed to be there with me but he was sick, and Dee said, “Oh that’s horrible, what’s you’re son’s name?” I told him. “Speaking of kids, Dee, how are your kids doing?” “Oh they’re great! My son is doing this..my daughter is doing that…” At that moment all I could think of was the irony; of when I was a 13 year old in the fall of ‘84 I used to walk home from school, turn on the tv to a show called “Top Forty Videos” that was a syndicated 30 minute after school show at that time, and there would be Twisted Sister playing We’re Not Gonna Take It, rebelling against the A hole Dad, and here 30 years later I’m literally trading dad stories with the lead singer! The last thing Dee said to me was, “Tell Dustin (my son) I hope he gets to feeling better soon!” Dee was such a pleasure to visit with. Y’all should definitely check out We’re Not Gonna Take It next. You two are among my favorite reaction people, by the way. Have a great week!

Twisted sister isn’t really a hair band. They predate that by 10 years. They were from the New York mid 70s scene along side Kiss. What is now called “hair metal” came out of Los Angeles in the 80s. Hair band doesn’t just mean long hair.

This video is so iconic, if people who were teens to 20's (myself) through the 80's were asked to put together a list of just 10 music videos they felt helped define the decade musically, this video would probably be on most peoples list. Even people who werent into rock would recognize it from any half second clip. The Buggles, Video Killed the Radio Star would have to be at the honorary top the list being the very 1st music video ever on MTV (Back when MTV was revolutionary, almost world changing.. and they played music). Madona, Like a Virgin. Men Without Hats, Safety Dance. Gotta put Boy George Culture Club Karma Cameleon on there for sure. Beastie Fight for your right. Run DMC with Aerosmith. I could go on. The decade was just an explosion of music and creativity and self expression. Odd was normal. Im a white guy. Grew up sorta rural in the desert just outside Phoenix. I actually owned and wore 3 or 4 pair of parachute pants. Had a mullet. Cut and bleached jeans. The always present black concert shits. From concerts we actually went to. "Novalty T's" werent really a thing. The closest would have been giving a friend $15 to buy you a shirt because your parents wouldnt let you go. All genre's were exploding at the same time. Michael Jackson was obviously huge. He had white kids in the desert hooked when we barely knew any actual black people in our every day lives. Break Dancing. The start of iconic Metallica. Looking back it was just crazy in so many ways. The volume of world events. Stock market crashes. The war on drugs that were hitting hard. The AIDS epidemic. The sadness the world felt the day of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster was very much like the sadness felt on 9/11. (9/11 also had fear though) So many things going on and all of it reflected through music. Keep doing what you guys do. Love your channel. Watch you guys almost daily.
