Thank you, Jeremiah! It was the time on The Backpacking Podcast with you and John that got me really thinking about doing this one. I've put the slideshow pictures at the end of many of my videos, but I've always wanted to do a video with a 'concentrated' version of some of my favorites from all the trips over time, and after talking photographs with you guys I decided to pull the trigger. I feel fortunate and blessed to have been able to get to all the magnificent places that I have been, and I'm happy to be able to share some of the pictures from those places with everyone.

Yeah, I know - Upper Kintla Lake in Glacier NP 2018. I can't begin to explain the emotions I was going through at that moment - it was cold, super-wet air, and raining... and I was solo during a really strange late-season time at Glacier (fires on Lake McDonald had closed the Going-to-the-Sun road, and basically shut Glacier down for the season). Basically, it was a really lonely time and feeling! Focusing on taking the pictures and capturing the video made it easier for me to just keep on hiking. But every time I look at that picture I can feel everything I felt at that moment, and I think some of that overwhelming emotion shows up in that picture.

@davidgrayin3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I kind of got a 'burr under my saddle' and decided to try something different. I'd been thinking of doing some short slide show videos, separate from and in addition to the normal trip videos, and then it just hit me to put something together with the 'good ones' from the trips over the years. I liked the result, and I plan to do more videos similar to that in the future.

Beautiful photos. I cannot wait to start my own collection of hiking photos. Quick off the subject question. Going to Yellowstone in June. Would love to take the cheese dip. Is the only place to buy it directly from the company? I cant seem to find it in any store or on Amazon. Thanks.
@davidgrayin3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Packit Gourmet cheddar-cheese spread has to be purchased from them directly, online (www.packitgourmet.com). I checked their website to see if they're planning to sell through various outfitters, etc. (e.g. REI) and they do say in their FAQ section that they plan to do that at some time in the future, but just not yet.
@santiagohills39973 жыл бұрын
Nice. But you need to set it to Johnny Cash’s “I’ve been everywhere.” Because when you string all these places together like this... “I’ve been to Grant Lake, Island Lake, Garnet Lake, Goodness Sake...I’ve been everywhere...” 🙂👍
@davidgrayin3 жыл бұрын
Not quite everywhere yet, but I have a few years left in me! I do feel blessed and extremely fortunate to have been able to make it to some of the most beautiful backcountry places in our country - and I was even thinking to myself when I was watching this one... 'boy, I've been to a lot of cool places!'. I'm typically only able to make it to one or two of the really great destinations per year (Glacier, Sierra, Winds, Colorado, etc.) but over the years the 'collection' adds up, and it makes me feel great that I was able to capture some of it and share with everyone.

Give us an overview of your 2021 plans, Dave!
@davidgrayin3 жыл бұрын
Still working on the rest of the 2021 agenda (depends on some permit lotteries) but it is starting to come together. I really want to do another AT trip in April somewhere, maybe even re-do the Roan Highlands section which I just loved the last time (plus I had some battery issues that really limited the video I could capture in the beautiful Little Hump Mountain and Hump Mountain area). In May Carl, Travis and I are going to head back to Dolly Sods. Then in June it looks like I may actually be doing a Boundary Waters canoe trip! Not exactly backpacking, but there will be some sort-of backpacking with the many portages you have to do, plus its a place I have always wanted to get to since doing some great canoe trips in Michigan in my much younger years. July looks like a repeat of the Wind River Range with the same crew from the 2019 Yellowstone trip (Carl, Justin, Travis, me, and my son, Christian) - Travis couldn't join us when Carl and I went in late 2019, and both Carl and I really wanted to get up to the Titcomb Basin so we're going to do a 'do-over' of that trip, but the way it should have been done the first time. August/September will be the permit trips - Glacier, John Muir Trail, Sierra, Wonderland Trail, etc... Still waiting to hear what permit(s), if any, I get plus dates, and I'll make plans after that - at a minimum I REALLY want to get back to Glacier again so I'm hoping that one at least comes through. Then maybe a Great Smoky Mountains NP trip in October or November, to be timed when the leaves are peaking out. Whew... makes me tired just thinking about it all, but what great trips if we can make them all happen. Sorry, very long answer to a short question!
@BS2Dos3 жыл бұрын
@@davidgrayin Wow. Was expecting a short monologue video from your porch rather than such a detailed text response! Sounds like a full year then. August/Sept sound really good. Can’t wait. Cheers Dave 👍👍👍
