This is absolutely fabulous! Cannot get over how well done this is and how phenomenal those kids are!! This coming from some one who works with kiddos in theatre!! How long did they have to put it together and learn the Choreography?

First, you must know it's a musical theater dance genre piece rather than real musical theater and so they are acting it out but not singing. I'm sure you know there is a big difference between this and what you do. Second, this particular piece has evolved over about three seasons. It started as a 2-minute tap solo by Jordan (Matilda) using just Naughty. The next season, Jordan was joined by their full mini troupe, Revolting Children and a reprise was added after Naughty and the dance ran 4 minutes. Finally, in the third season, the cast was expanded to include the entire studio and presented as a teen production number with 7 songs, running 9 minutes.

2 years ago, Jordan Cruz did a little 2-minute tap solo to "Naughty" as Matilda, and then last year, the studio expanded it to a 4-minute supergroup ("Revolting Children") with Jordan as Matilda again. And now this in 2016: a 9-minute full production number.

Thank you so much! At nine minutes, it is rather long for a dance video, but worth the effort. I always track down the original music and edit in a fresh copy so it sounds good. In this case, there were parts of seven different songs. In the end, I think it came out good and I am happy with the resulting video. It has been in my 2-day-running-average-by-view-count top ten most popular videos for a long time. I watch it often myself because I like musical theater in general and The Dance Place as a studio, and Jordan Cruz (playing Matilda in this) is one of my favorite dancers. ♥

Do you realize that it is illegal to do Matilda? I am Matilda in a professional place, (Northern Stage in Vermont, look it up) but they are not out for community theaters or schools. I hope your school realized this. You could get in serious trouble.

Kylie B-Skygummes The rights sometimes periodically go out for smaller theatres/schools to perform when its not currently running on Broadway/West End or touring. I’m auditioning for a production this summer through a community theatre and it’s perfectly legal. :)
