Another extra detail. When they sang "Like you I was curious", their choreography wasn't just them being stern to the new kids. Around 3:10, they point on their own as well, this is them reminding each other. The girl with glasses is the least tense, when 'If I try I can Remember', she had a more scared face, than scary. Which might imply she fell out of line once, or has been close to. Their choreo is basically, I am telling you these because you are on your own if you screw up, we are on our own, and so are you.

I like the details of how the prefects present themselves as very stern, menacing, almost aggressive in the way they introduce Matilda and Lavender to the school for the first time, but if you think about it they’re actually being very considerate and helpful by warning them both of what’s to come. They never actually do any harm to the two new students; they’re only telling them how to survive in a merciless environment they’ve never been in before, in a jaded, cynical way that they've been accustomed to delivering this exact same performance many times before.

Netflix in my region has this movie dubbed in French, Spanish, Korean and Japanese. Often with musicals, they'll dub just the dialog and have the songs in the original, but for Matilda, they did full translations and dubs of all the songs in each of those languages - INCLUDING working in the alphabet in every single one! Amazing localization work.

Chinese also did very good localisation. Unfortunately Malay and Indonesian just translated the song directly without considering the alphabetical order. Did french consider the alphabetical order?

Most of the songs have Tim Minchin written all over them. This one feels the most like him though. It reminds me of Cont(ext) and Prejudice with how he presents the song and the listener thinks they know what’s going on, then the second half starts and he pulls the rug out from under you.

ohh this movie gave me chills in so many different scenes, particularly this one and ‘my house’. the vocal arrangement and the choreography is brilliant throughout the movie, as is the set and how it interacts with the story. it’s easy for a set to become a static location, just a scene where something happens. but it truly feels as if it is a part of what’s going on throughout the movie; the locations are an integral part of the story and it really shows.

This is how tou adapt a musical into a film... so many movies are so scared to go all out and use the theatrical moves of musicals with the use of film editing cuz it would look weird... This is an example that it can be done amazingly
