One important thing I think you may have missed and I found out from my experience, is the fact that at the pub, you are generally only paying for your own personnal consumption. Wheras as soon as you invite a couple of mates over for a beer or two, your beer price calculations go off the charts. You easily get through a keg within one sitting. So either 1) It's gonna be an very expensive experience owning the machine 2) You convince your mates to get a PD too, so you take it in turns and share the price 3) Be a tight git and charge your mates for each beer 😅 or 4) Hide your PD from your guests and get some back up bottles/tins in the fridge lol

Great video on the Philips PD. If you are on holidays in The Netherlands you can get the Jupiler and Hertog Jan kegs for around 19,70 pounds in the supermarkets (including deposit of 5 euro). BTW i have the basic Philips PD 3600

I bought my perfect draft early December 2019. It cost £170. I have bought 50 kegs (34 different types of beers therefore different cost per keg) but allowing for the beer tokens I'm averaging £22.57 per 10.5 pint keg. Filter in running costs this adds 84p per keg and initial purchase £3.40 per keg (though this is obviously reducing with every keg purchased). Total so far £26.81 per 10.5 pints. Bet you can't get Lowenbrau Oktoberfest at £2.55 a pint! It does not compare well to cheap supermarket beers and lagers such as Carling etc. but I'm paying £2.55 for very good quality beers. I ruled out the Krupps Blade - I can't fit the kegs in the fridge to chill down and not yet much choice of beers. And the 2 litre torps are simply too expensive per pint and too small.

I’m seriously considering the PD as an alternative to the beer engine and bag in box setup I have in the shed. I have an old hand pump which holds half a pint of beer at ambient temperature to drink before the cold drink reaches the glass 🤦🏼‍♂️. The second pint is then getting warm while you drink the first.

It really is a no-brainier. In Wiltshire a Stella is £4.30 and Stella is now ABV 4.6% down from 5.2 a few years ago, so Interbrew are saving the tax, giving you cheaper beer for the same price. I lived in Germany until 2020, price of 1 can of Hosten Pils ABV 5.0% .79/.89€, franziskaner weisßbier .89 - .99€ per bottle or can, supermarket beer .39 to .59€ per can, all ABV 5.0%. British people are being overcharged for watery beer like Carling when there are so many good beers out there. Pure draft is not cheap but it is less expensive than the supermarket or pub. One compelling reason for me is I do not end up with loads of cans or bottles to recycle or throw away. At least in Germany the supermarket is obliged to take them back and you can reclaim the tax as cash. In Britain they are thrown in the bin or thrown on the side of the road. We are missing a trick in this country. At a bar in Hamburg a 500ml glass is €4.30, Hamburg is a major city. BTW, the situation in Venezuela is so dire, they do not make beer there any more. They cannot afford the ingredients

Will Guinness ever do a keg for this ?
@BigBaldReviews
@BigBaldReviews 3 жыл бұрын
There's always a chance. But until recently with the launch of Dark Arts, there was no stout at all. My guess is that this would be more likely if a new PerfectDraft machine came out with a variable temperature control. Guinness are incredibly protective of the quality, which is fair play. And I don't think they would want people serving it up from a keg at a temperature that isn't optimal. Guinness should be more like 6 degrees c so a standard fridge would be about spot on for cans and bottles. When/if it comes to PD, it has to taste better than bottles and cans otherwise no one would bother with it.
@paulmallon9292
@paulmallon9292 3 жыл бұрын
@@BigBaldReviews I think with Guinness they have to have proper gas regulation for the 2 part pour. The tap would have to be pressurised for a normal pour and to push the tap forward for the slow pour to top up the pint. Guinness would never hand this over to a third party company such as Phillips or beer hawk in my opinion. They would basically see that as giving over intellectual property for free as the pour of Guinness is actively used in their advertising campaigns. Apart from anything I don't think the perfect pint even would work for Guinness on even a physical level as the tap isnt sufficient for Guinness and it would need gas I think to work properly. Otherwise it would just pour boot black instantly and not go through the settling process. It would hugely negatively impact the quality. And yes, I'm Irish..... can you tell?
@paulmallon9292
@paulmallon9292 3 жыл бұрын
@@BigBaldReviews unless they would do their 'Extra Stout' range on a keg which they actually have done in the past. They had it in the pub i worked in for a brief time. But the usual draft Guinness would be as described i think.
