When you think of the word perfectionism, you might think of those you know (or maybe yourself) who are anal, OCD, and hard to work with. Perfectionism is when you aren't satisfied until every little detail is up to your standard of "perfect." The problem with this is that perfection is subjective, and our subjective judgment changes from day to day. So while something in your eyes may be perfect today, tomorrow you opinion could completely change.

I really like your differentiation between being a perfectionist and "excellentist." I believe it's important to strive for perfection, but equally important to acknowledge and accept the idea that we can never truly achieve it. In doing so, we will be able to execute our best efforts and not restrict ourselves to stagnation and hopelessness.

I completely agree. Striving for perfection is an impossible path. But striving to do you best is completely in your control.

i am a perfectionist, peoples always treated me with high expectation, and i can tell you i am aware that's perfection don't exists but i can help it, i fall again and again for this, and let me say that's a nightmare, every time you start a project if i can be sure to succeed to 100% i will just give up, and think to myself, you really are a piece of shit, I've wonder my whole life how do people do to stop something when they know they can do better, even writing this comment since i am not a native speaker and never properly learned English, i will check and recheck everything every time and if i see a thing that's only by a little bit not what i wanted i will consider this a total failure and give up

Maybe this will help you: I am a perfectionist aswell and what helped me to give up on perfectionism in small thinks (like for example in writing a comment on the internet) was the following idea: As a perfectionist you seek perfection in life. But you cannot be a perfect individual if you fail to realise and take into consideration that perfection doesn't exist in nature (and you are part of nature). So, you can only be an overall perfect individual if you accept that imperfection is part of life. Or in other words: If you always seek perfection in everything you do and give up in the moment you realise that you cannot achieve it then your own actions make you imperfect. Instead, the next time you start a project you should do your best and bring it to an end. If you think that the result isn't perfect, just accept this fact and feel good with it because by having the ability to accept that your result cannot be perfect, you as a personality are coming one step closer to being overall perfect.

If you’re a perfectionist, how come your poor grammar doesn’t bother you? (Sorry if that meant to come out rude. Just asking, I’m a perfectionist. I can’t stand it when others display poor grammar. 😂)

"Perfect is the enemy of the good" - I think it's the enemy of great and downright awesome too. I often wonder how many amazing things we never got to see because it's creator could only see the ways in which it missed the mark. I keep this in mind a lot.

Void has no qualities. If it has no qualities, it can have no negative qualities. If it has no negative qualities, it is perfect. Therefore, nothing is perfect. Literally

Does it matter if it's subjective? Who else's opinions do I have to go by? Obviously I'm going to act to fulfill my own preferences as perfectly as possible. By definition what else could I do? Even if I decided to go against that then that would mean my preference was to feel like I'm going against my own preferences and so I would really just be deceiving myself. If I decide to just be like "Good enough" with something I'm working on it's because that was my preference, because I see what ever time energy or comfort I'm saving myself as being a more perfect balance of priorities than otherwise. So in the end the inescapable truth is we're all perfectionists and the only way to 'be' anything else is through self-deception, and then you're still a perfectionist, you just don't realize it. The real problem is not perfectionism, but rather that people enslave themselves to their points of view. They are unaware that they could just change to another point of view. Doesn't mean you should stop trying to be perfect. Having no standards at all would be boring and then you're trying to be perfect at not caring about anything. But it's important to realize that the standards come from yourself. The video seems to deal mostly with appearance perfectionism. While focusing on that standard is just as valid as any other personally I've always found that sort of pursuit boring.

A perfectionist is by definition an "excellentist", perfectionism means: "high standard of excellence", do you remember that moment when something was at its very best and you said: "perfect!"?, that's the perfectionism in action. If I'm a perfectionist I should hope I'm excessively perfect, what perfectionists don't do: they don't kill themselves, they don't do self-abnegation on themselves or anyone, they don't make sacrifices, and they don't go around acting selflessly, perfectionist moral principles are by far selfish (not selfless), it's up to a perfectionist to decide to shoot a cop who attempts to shoot him, or otherwise not be a murderer, other things about perfectionists, they don't disgust people, they don't do any less than they do, and they don't have flaws and are not imperfect in any way. By Tom's definition down at Oldfield, a resident who lives in Oldfield, "perfectionists don't make mistakes", his perfection is that you shouldn't drink alcohol and shouldn't smoke, and shouldn't do immoral things, e.g. disturbing the peace, making excessive noise, giving another a hard time or taking advantage of a crippled man just because he's crippled, or abusing women. My perfectness definition includes drinking and smoking in moderation, never abusing, never violent except in self-defence, spending time alone, having a maximally well life for myself leading it, this leads to desire for pleasure and desire to be selfish/egoistic. Therefore perfectionists don't harm or hurt themselves, they don't ruin their own lives unless in psychology, it was maladaptive, or in the case of duties exceptional cases that allow permission for self-mutilation and suicide, this isn't perfect, it's getting away with something and therefore a false perfectionism, nor is Jesus's sacrifice a true perfectionism, perfectionists lead good lives, they don't destroy it like Jesus did. If this is faultless, excellent, or having all the essential elements, then it's twisting the definition, it's actually a flaw, a temptation by Satan and terrible, it's not perfect. Christianity is not a perfection, but a flawed religion that improves on Jesus's teaching by cherry-picking them, the flaw being that there are some angry people who have bad lives and make other people's lives hell, perfect? It's the opposite of perfect, it's a lie, it's a falsehood, it's a murderous religion. To be a Christian is to be a scary guy, and I'm not a Christian. I think without all these bad lives, without all the suffering, and without death, it would be perfect, Christianity needs banishing, it can't be corrected, it will always be a false perfection and a false good with lies of false promises and false treasures.
