Damn man! You went through a Glarry with care and attention to detail, turning out a video that has some of the best advice along with the "whys" of everything and that tip about setting the neck... I've been playing (on and off) for 24 years and this was the first time I encountered that. Granted, I've only ever played neck-thru guitars, but still. It's always a joy to see a passionate guitarist at work.

I love the resourcefulness of the Filipino people, it's in everything they do, and no fear, no matter how high or deep the dive into the subject. Don't agree; look into any avant garde subject and find who's made the most headway. My theory is island life means making do and living well.

Great instructional video from a superb musician; I bought a Glarry GST recently & your pro-steps have been invaluable in getting the best from my instrument. There are a lot of negative comments online regarding these 'cheap' guitars and their manufacture but, keep in mind that for a starter/beginner instrument they provide someone with limited funds an opportunity to access music, and also learn about guitar construction for any upgrade work required at a very affordable price. Great content here and thanks so much for the time to taken to post - wishing you a successful continued career maestro....

Nice! I like how the strings are the only thing you changed showing people that these newer cheap guitars aren't bad for people just getting started. Back in the days you had to spend at least $200 for something halfway decent. I have the four string P bass from Glarry and so far it's been a blast. :)

just as a tip or warning, raising the pickups is a give and take, the magnetic pull will literally pull on the strings at a certain point, that creates other dynamics, you can either use a measuring device or visually see how the pup magnets pull on the strings, visual is best so you don't have to remove the pickups, just look for the sag in the strings.. so adjusting the pickup laying on its back your not implying the gravitational effect of the guitar being in the playing position, strings are actually moving more towards the pups, so try to do any and all string adjustments in player position.. thing is all magnets have different strengths, so its per pickup, I always try to go as low as I can actionwise while avoiding any tidal lock with pups or at least that point where the magnets are actually grabbing them, it's a dance for sure, string height vs action vs pickup height and avoiding as much tidal lock as possible.. but when you find that sweet spot it sure is sweet.. :-) to sort the tidal lock try this, raise your pickups far as you can until they actually grab a string and hold on, then lower pickup just till the string releases, then play it some, feel and hear how that tidal lock affects everything from tuning, overtone, volume, sustain, to overall tone and even string feel, specially bends... then go the exact opposite, drop the pickups so low the sound is almost gone, raise volume if you have to, play some more paying attention to the same details you did before, tone, sustain, string feel, tuning, overtones all that.. now you should have a good idea of the two extremes, pickups as close to the strings as possible and as far away as possible.. now adjust your pickup height accordingly, too low you lose sustain, volume, overtone sweet spot, but increase feel, strings feel free, easier to bend so forth cuz they are not influenced by the magnetic pull at all.. then raise them to your liking.. where you still have the feel you like, volume you like, tuning, overtones and feel, do this over and over you should find a sweet spot that is perfect for you, lotta metal guys raise string high as possible for that volume and grit, sacrificing everything else, the choice is yours, gary rossington likes his pups low and string spacing high.. cranks those peaveys and she screams, he love that tone, so he sacrifices volume so forth for that blessed greasy fat tone, the choice is yours, whatever makes you happy...

Bought cheap guitar set-up tools from Lazada, music nomad cleaners from Guitarpusher and watched Perfs video and it’s the first time my am standard strat played this well! I didnt even have to use the gauges i bought when adjusting the action, and used perfs play and adjust method to just tweak the height of the low e string which fretted out when bending at the 15th fret. Adjusted the intonation. Watched how perf did it and now i dont even need to bring my guitar to the luthier. Thanks for the video (kailangan lang pala tapangan magpihit pihit e)!❤️

I watched a video recently about PAF pickups. It turns out the early models made by Gibson were microphonic to some degree. After a few years of production, they started potting them to cut down on or eliminate microphony. The person doing the survey--some boutique pickup maker, I can't remember who--surmised that part of the attraction of the early Les Pauls and such with unpotted PAFs was their ability to pick up body vibrations. Apparently some people believe killing the microphonics of the pups kills the tone of the guitar.

Bridge saddles, bridge saddles, bridge saddles, all day long. I started playing in 1983, instructed for several years and I've seen countless cheap student guitars where the strings pop due to a burr or pitted or chipping metal plating on a bridge saddle. No way I would put new strings on a cheap guitar until I'd gone over each saddle with at least a 3Xs magnifying glass under really good light. I like how you mic the ambience of the actual guitar (strings, picking) along with the amp. That is very helpful. Hate it when someone reviews equipment and just gives the signal from an interface box. I LIKE to hear real fret buzz as it happens. Nothing's worse than an acoustic guitar sent through a DI box and electric guitars are no different, give some ambient sound from it or go all the way back home and try bringing that sht again. Again, bridge saddles, they hate us, they're all out to work evil like little gremlins sent from Hell to disrupt and torment everything we do O.o
@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro
@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro 4 жыл бұрын
haha the bridge saddles are actually smooth, but there were burrs from when they punched the holes for the strings top mount. I found that out after I recorded the jam at the end and broke another 1st string! I've since filed it down and will discuss it in the 3rd video
@tasteapiana

@@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro Bingo. Frets and nuts are just rectangular objects with one leading edge point of contact. Bridges have all kinds of surfaces that come off of different machines, are plated and would take a lot more time for workers to care for properly. In high throughput scenarios like short-medium run low cost guitars those machines aren't going to be checked every 10th or even 100th piece, they are likely set and never checked unless something gets stuck and production has to stop. 0 being perfectly set and 100 being absolute failure, I'm guessing most metal working machines for sub $200 guitars are averaging around 60 - the lower the cost (higher feed rate) = the higher that number gets. Stamping dies, metalwork bandsaw blades, files, abrasives, all bordering on trash, then there's likely zero tumbling of parts before chrome plating (think of those pointy edges a neglected soldering iron leaves on leads). Top it all off with the use of zinc and/or super low cost steel and every point of contact should definitely be considered suspect.

@@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro It takes a while bombing around YT to find reliable sources of instrument and music info. You seem very knowledgeable and sincere. That is rare. It's not that the average YT'er is not sincere, but they are aiming their message at some demographic, trying to be hip or something ... I don't get that feel here. Yes I get the Philippino linkage, but that is your heritage. You seem to treat (and present) musical stuff as sort of universal, and that's way cool : ) I dunno what town you are in (?), but there may be sources of inexpensive instruments that actually do well (Harley Benton comes to mind). A good amp can make a low end guitar sound a lot better and it's cheaper than buying an high end guitar.

You are not only a great guitar player, but you are really great at presenting this type of an educational video. And just because I praised you and your video, don't get cocky...hahaha Just kidding.

I had a guy tell me on a video that cheap guitars use 3 pieces of wood in the body....I told them yes I agree, and I'm sure Brownie and Blackie the Eric Clapton originals are and were both 3 pieces bodies. Lmmfao!!!

frankly for $89 that thing sounds dang good, ceramics I'd guess? lot of its the hands but its hard to get those hands to sound good if the instrument is not set up to its maximum potential or near maximum..

I haven't seen anyone take off the bridge yet. I've been wondering if I could buy a new bridge and put a humbucker in the bridge pickup spot, I think it would look good and play well.
