Two of the most genuine, talented, and gorgeous dancers chatting- made this adult ballet student's day. But seriously. How are they both SO BEAUTIFUL inside and out. Felt like I was sitting and having coffee with two friends. Thanks for this amazing collab!

It is such an honor to see an interview with Maria. She is so splendid a dancer yet so humble a person. I love Kathryn too, as always, and she is so funny. I love how Maria gives long answers and we get details. Since I was a little girl I had a reverence for the Marinsky. So to see a Marinsky principle up close is incredible. The New York City Ballet and Balanchine were a giant part of my childhood too. What a treat to have this. I can't believe N.Y.C.B. did dress rehearsals same day as the performance! That is so hard. I LOVED hearing about yall's point shoe realities and preparations. I would love to hear more.

I don't think I've ever seen a zoom interview blocked this way, where you're "looking" at the other person. I find it so interesting!

You both shared the how top performance artists care for themselves not only right before the performance but leading up to the performance and afterwards. I love that you and Maria have a routine of giving yourself lots of time of preparation, physically and mentally. Such honest and helpful answers to so many interesting and important questions. Rituals and talismen... that was interesting! Live performances; always, always exciting! Thank you! 🙏💜

This makes me wonder how many times dancers go wrong on stage and we don't even notice (unless you happen to know the choreography!) because they improvise or cover it up very well. Probably more often than I thought! You guys are amazing.

Very interesting video. On many questions, they had similar responses, but on 1 specific questions I think the answers showed the huge difference between the USA and Russia. The question was somehow: what are the main thoughts before performances, for Maria it was what Kitri, what Giselle will I be, and for Kathryn it was more focused on ballet-technics. I had many, many, many discussions here on the internet, where all Americans always answered "but we do character studies" and I never agreed, because I see a huge difference in the serious acting part of the Russian Ballerinas. I always will remember a former Vaganova student who was explaining how they had acting studies where they studied the falling of a tree leave and repeated it in many studies how to adapt this feeling to Ballet. ... I don't know if they do it for days, weeks or months, but I do feel this deep difference where the USA dancers rely and delegate just more to the responsibility of the coreografie and the Russian Ballerinas see and feel it more as an acting mission.

You inspire me so much! I love you Kathryn! I’m 15 and I don’t know if you remember but I was at a different studio at one point and taking once a week. You’ve inspired me to up my training and I know take 4 times a week. Confidence is a struggle especially at barre I find. I always look at other peoples feet and get caught up in it. I do better when im actually performing a dance and really break out of my shyness usually do you have any tips? I’m so excited because I have a few more months my teacher thinks until pointe 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

What did she mean when she said the stage was soft?
@SarahFieldsenpointe2 жыл бұрын
I wondered that too. Maybe an old-school genuine wood stage? Or wood covered in marley?
@yasinwijaya6775 Жыл бұрын
calculusfan1 Ballet floors are usually sprung, which means there is some air space beneath the floor to absorb the shock from the dancer's feet. What Miss Khoreva probably means is that the degree to which the floor is sprung is very high, quite different from a normal wood floor, which is very hard. She could also mean that the marley on the floor is quite thick and soft. I have one at home to do my ballet exercises on, and it is an inch and a milimeter thick. Thick marley is to, of course, reduce the impact of landing on a dancer's joints. I believe the Mariinksy Theater designed their stage to be "soft" to muffle the noise of hundreds of dancers jumping on stage, which with pointe shoes (and their hard blocks) is very hard. A great help when it is a ballet like Swan Lake and the floor is supposed to be a lake, or when it is a ballet like the Midsummer's Dream. Fairies fly, not thump. Cheers! xxx
