PEP, I think you are overlooking the efficency of the canopener as technique, sometimes is easier to get the opponent into a hook and then open their hand, than trying to straight toproll out off the go when against a really fast explosive hooker or another toproller, a good example of this is John Brzenk vs Rustam Babayev: John couldn't toproll Rustam, because Rustam had the a ability to force a hook to fast before John could do anything and by the time John stopped the hit he would already be stretch out in a defensive hook, but if he willingly went into a hook and then started to apply pressure on Babayev's hand, he could win without much trouble. And this is not only true only for John whom has a giant thumb, it worked like this for me on multiple occasions and have baby hands. One thing to be mindful of is that is easier to pronate when you have your wrist bend, try it out for yourself in the gym, doing a pronation lift with your wrist straight is considerably harder. Maybe the secret is to shout *canOPANA*
@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes
@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes 9 ай бұрын
haha, yes this is the secret. Yeah that's what I meant, I think the can opener is a good move, but pretty much only for John. Like if the average person tries it it probably isn't optimal
@Pepe-pq3om
@Pepe-pq3om 9 ай бұрын
@@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes don't know if you got my point exactly. For example, if I try to toproll my friend on the left hand, 80% of the time it won't work because he will end up climbing over my hand. I have more success forcing him in a hook, but even then, I usually lose because my cupping isn't very good and eventually I'll lose my hand, but I can force him into a hook and then take his hand focusing on pronating through the thumb, so the can-opener is the best technical option in this case (other than the kingsmove, but let's not talk about that). And, my thumb is pretty normal, I would say is actually undersized since my hand is overall small (baby hands 😭)

the unfortunate truth is, the actual bone structure of your thumb will unlikely change in any way naturally after puberty, due to your growth plates closing, unless u were to use PEDs like HGH etc. I would say John in some sense was lucky, because his dad introduced him to the sport at 13, which is literally when a person experiences unrivalled growth spurts that they will never experience again after, and his style of pulling through his thumb, particulary his toproll, plus puberty, perpetuated his thumb into a unrivalled genetic specimen. U could try looking for some kid, introduce him to armwrestling just as he's entering his teens, teach him thumb based pulling, and whether or not he ends up like John, will be a question left to ponder forever

I still to this day have no fucken clue what i was doing that allowed me to win and i haven't armwrestled for well over a decade. Pretty sure i used bicep only, i was hooking. I hadn't a clue about top rolling or any other techniques back then. 4:25.. no john is not top rolling.. that is purely a hook...

yes, but it still attacks Pavlo's wrist almost like a toproll because of John's thumb
@marcusmouya
@marcusmouya 9 ай бұрын
No it's not. A top roll is a purely outside move with pronation through the thumb and backpressure to attack the opponent's fingers. This is just a normal hook.@@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes

@marcusmouya you trolling? His argument is laid out crystal clearly. You may not agree with the argument but just repeating “it’s not a top roll” doesn’t help make your point. We already know it’s not a top roll. Duh. But his large thumb bends the opponents wrist back even in a hook as IF it was a top roll.. That’s the entire point.

People who accidently have their thumb cut off have it replaced with their big toe usually.

He's aging too quickly now. He needs to do a whole body detox, start clearing out his liver and remineralizing with loads of pressure cooked vegetables, and balancing his oxidation rate using hair tissue mineral analysis and certain supplements based on if he's in fast oxidation, slow or mixed oxidation

His thumb is that thick due to that being his style and the tendons and muscle of his thumb have thickened over time. Just look at how thick professional rock climbers fingers are.

Does that somewhat explain why john had such difficult against denis? Denis hand even more bizarre than john's hand?

yeah basically neither guy had a chance of cupping, and denis has more back pressure.

And that's why Denis had a problem with John in the past, he was trying to hook John the entire match instead of using his even thicker hand to his advantage. Goes to show how much of a freak Denis was, he didn't change his technique to beat John (for their last match before the one in KOTT), he just got so strong that he simply blasted through John's pronation

I've gripped up with him a couple times. One time a match at USAA nationals. I was a 154 amateur against him in the overalls LOL. He was a gentleman and let me get any grip I wanted and his hand felt comically large and thick. Needless to say he slowly pulled me over. 😆💪
