Curious as to just what you're getting into with a Performer JC20 or JC70 recumbent trike purchase? Rob goes over some things you might want to know, especially if you've already purchased a JC and need some tips on assembly.

Good advice on the correct chain length. And I use an old "rabbit ears" tv antenna to telescope for measuring toe-in, while I am sitting on the trike.

I really like the looks of these trikes, especially the price. I've also been talking to a few people who own them, and discovered that they all seem to have a problem with the front wheels wobbling when they take their hands off the handlebars. Has the company been able to determine what is causing this, and any good fixes to rectify this problem yet? Some people have tried to place dampeners on them while others have played around with spacers, shims, etc. This seems to be the only recurring issue I've seen people talk about. Even with this issue, the people who own them say it's not that big of a deal, and the price savings more than make up for it especially when considering all of the added features that other brands charge extra for.

Shnarkle VonBarkle -you correct on all accounts. The company has prototyped new steering which pretty much negated the problem. We’re hoping by the end of the year. -Rob/RBR

I put greased O-rings of just the right diameter under the headset caps on my Actionbent which gave just enough "stiction" to take out the shimmy issue. Shimmy varied quite a bit with the tire in use as well. So it can be addressed relatively easily. 1/16 inch "toe-in" was best as well.

I have a early Performer X with the 26 inch rear wheel and rear suspension. Looking for the fenders for this trike. Also need the replacement steering joints on the tie rod. Any help would be appreciated.

About how often do you have to calibrate the steering?
@TravisPrebble6 жыл бұрын
It's a good idea to recalibrate when you change tires or if you see uneven wear on the tires you're using. Otherwise, if everything is tightened down, you shouldn't have to recalibrate.

Rob Gentry oh gosh, thank you! I just got a really nice JC-70 the other day; barely used for $1200. I don’t like the seat that’s on it. It’s very hard on my bad back and leg. And the guy cut the straps off the petals, which is scary because I’ve got a bad leg that keeps slipping off that pedal and now I’m scared to death if it were to hit the ground because that could be really tragic on my new knee. I’ve already bought flags, helmet, Red flashing light for the back, headlight for the front, Tire pump that will fit in the bag on the back of the bike. It’s gonna take me a long time (if I ever am able) to purchase the seat, petals, and canopy. I’m a single person on disability and I only bring in $803 a month and $600 of that goes to rent. So that’s gonna be pretty much impossible for me to accomplish what’s needed for the bike. Either way, it’s good to know that that seat would fit on my bike in case it ever does happen. I’ve got a friend that has one of these bikes and he said that that seat would not fit on mine, so I thought I’d ask you. I was quite blessed because my kids bought the bike for me and they also ordered the helping handles (I think they’re called) because I have a really hard time getting on and off of the bike because I have a leg that does not bend very well at all & doesn’t straighten very far because it’s atrophied really bad from waiting too long to have my knee replaced, so those bars are going to be quite helpful when they do come. This bike may be his exact thing that I need if I’m ever going to have a chance to get my leg back to normal again. Dr. say it’ll never happen, but I think with the help of riding this bike that I have a chance anyway. Thank you so much Rob for getting back to me so quickly! God bless!
