Matt Galat of the JaYoe! world tour did an excellent video of the Performer factory. The owner said trikes are 90% of their recumbent business! And they are open to custom works: in the video we can see how Performer was designing a recumbent frame for a man who is 2 m (6 ft. 7 in.) tall!! Performer trikes can be sold at such low prices because they are entirely made in Taiwan. Every big-name bike brand is produced in there, and the quality of their work is top-notch. Another smart way to keep prices down is the fact the cruciform on their trikes is a bolt-on piece instead of a welded one. This simplifies construction, and the product can be shipped in a much slimmer box. And you can even buy only the frame! If you already have a set of wheels, brakes, shifters, etc; a finished Performer frame can be bought for around US $1060 (excluding shipping). be nice if the cantus and jc70 had a more reclined seat. i would expect 25 degrees or less on even a 'budget' carbon race trike. dont see why it would be more expensive to make a cheap trike in a greenspeed aero form factor than a more upright one. trike makers are too conservative. the performer lowracers seem top notch though. their seat angles are pretty fearless

I agree regarding the seat angle potential on the trike. I personally prefer a 25 degree seat, which I had on my Catrike 700. Makes slicing through the wind resistance much more efficient, and for me, is much more comfortable. Carbon trikes are clearly made for the performance oriented rider, so seat angle should always reflect this in their design. steve

@@EZSteve yes. the thing is a 700 is not even that reclined. it still feels like your sitting up and getting a fair bit of air resistence but its a good compromise. funny you mention the 700 has a 25 degree seat. i always thought it was 27, because most reviews and specs say so. but i was curious what it was, so a few days ago i took a profile pic of my 700 and uploaded to photoshop so i could work out the angle. and it is indeed 25 degrees. way to go catrike. it is only a tad less inclined than my challenge fujin lowracer. they actually look the same even on the fujins lowest setting. no wonder the cat700 is quite fast. sadly its heavy and expensive. the market is still missing the vital ingredient. a value (relatively) carbon lowracer trike with a sub 25 degree seat. cant help thinking performer missed a big market opportunity with the cantus.

@@andy-the-gardener Perhaps the Greenspeed Aero has the most reclined seat out there at this point. I think the Aero is lower and more reclined than any other speed trike, but I don't know for sure. I was plenty happy with the 25 degrees on my 700, and for me, the 700 was really lightweight (although I realize others may be lighter). I have never ridden an Aero, but I bet it is a blast to ride! steve
