I had a new torque converter installed yesterday and when I left the dealership the mechanic failed to take it on a test drive so as soon as it shifted into second it grabbed the wheels and drug so the service manager came out and we took it for a drive and he stated that there had to be at least 250 miles driven on the vehicle to clear up any issues whenever there is a transmission adjustment or repair

I am very curious how this has held up, in the time since this video was made. GM Service Advisors say they stopped doing these "re-learns" because the hard shifting/clunking came back within 48-hours, but I have seen some feedback from owners that say these relearns have helped substantially. Months later, is the hard shifting/clunking/feeling like you've been rear ended still occuring? Did it come back, or require ANOTHER re-learn? I would love to know how it's working for you now (February 2022). :)

This is a long shot hoping someone will chime in with some advice. I just had my transmission rebuild on a 2015 gmc Sierra 5.3. - I feel like the mechanic has done something incorrect. he has had it for a month now. has retired it to me a few times and the truck is not shifting correct. once up to full operating temp it will slip badly going into 2nd. Instead of shifting it will go into neutral and the revs will go up fast until I let off the gas , then it will usually clunk into gear , it goes through all the other gears fairly normally. he is claiming that the truck has to go thru a "learn cycle" than can take multiple days of driving it with these symptoms. sometimes it will just stick in second until oi come to a complete stop then it will go back to normal for a little while. it is also leaking a considerable amount of fluid, took it back twice for just the fluid leak and he keeps saying its fixed but then I take it home and its leaking. he said "sometimes it will leak a little at first"....none of this seems correct. the truck only has 80,000 miles on it and I do not think it even needed a transmission , the whining noise it was making that brought me in the begin with has not been resolved with the rebuild. this shop is where my warranty required me to take it and has very good reviews so I felt like it was a reputable shop. Is it true that a 2015 gmc transmission requires a re-learn period like this and do these sound like normal symptoms of that? I paid a lot of money for this truck and feel like this guy may have destroyed it. the amount of time it is taking is also excessive seeming to me. there is no check engine light coming on so he says it is fine and it will just take a little while to sort itself out.

The adaptive relearn should only take no more than a few days if driven normally every day. He is stalling hoping that you either get used to it or give up.

@@737mechanic I picked it up again today for maybe the 4th time, still the same thing but this time I almost caused an accident on the freeway because it downshifted hard and stuck in whatever gear it was when it should have just gone into a normal overdrive, had to pull off the freeway and limp it home.there is no getting used to that!! it is literally undrivable. first thing he asked was if it gave me a light/code...so I think he genuinely can not figure out what is happening and was hoping id drive it enough to throw a code , it is so bad I can not safely drive it. I dont know what to do other than take it somewhere else and spend thousands of dollars then try to somehow get him to pay me back for the loss.so as of tomorrow I will be taking it back again and beginning month #2 I feel like even if he is struggling with idiot he spent the proper time figuring it out it would be done but it seems like they have way too much work and just letting my truck sit for days at a time then working on it maybe for one hour every few days. Not a good experience.

Hello sir. Did the trans fluid flush with blue label Mobil 1 yesterday at 50k miles. I bought the 2019 Silverado 5.3L with the 8 speed transmission a month ago and after some research decided to do the flush. I had no shudder or harsh shifting. Now, unfortunately, after the flush, I'm getting a hard downshift from 2 to 1 when coming to a rapid stop. When that happens it also jumps from 1 to 2 upon acceleration. If it comes to a gradual stop it doesn't shift hard. Seems all other gears are shifting smoothly. How's your truck shifting today after this relearn and do you think mine may need a relearn from new fluid and filter?

IDK???? it still drives way better than the numerous complaints that have been reported on this trans.

@737mechanic3 жыл бұрын
Disabling AFM won't help with any shifting problems, In fact, I have tried very hard to see if I can tell when the AFM switches from v8 to v4 and I can't feel anything when it does. The only reason to disable AFM in my opinion is to possibly prolong the lifter life and prevent the oil consumption problem even though they claim to have fixed both those problems on this generation engine. The six-speed may be a better transmission but I think they have their own issues also. I did a video on changing the fluid using the blue label Mobil 1 and it fixed everything except a harsh shift that I was getting every now and then. That's why I did the fast learn. I now have just over 100,000 miles on the engine and trans and both seem fine. That video is here if you are interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2LTf2l-ntiXpNE
