Would love to see more of the arrangement side in Ableton. There's some interesting stuff going on here. Sounds like there may be some honed in randomness or generative tools being used in the progression.
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Logan, good point! Its actually pretty arranged but when all parts are playing together its occurring some interesting and unexpected things. The Performer are playing a simple pattern of five notes(5/4) that turns into some kind of canon when its cycles through the four voices of the perfourmer. When this meets the first bass(playing dotted eight notes in 4/4) some polyrhythmic things start to happening. When the song escalates the chords and drums are playing in 9/8 and the fast drum sounds heard(generated from the vermona DRM1) are getting trigged from a random arpeggiator in Ableton. So that beat are pretty random. I think its really nice to work with different layers in different measures and its a great way of getting a more complex sound!

Again, I love the color in your art. I saw you use the Vermona on some of your tunes, but surely not this one? Curious to know how you created those epic drum sounds!
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 3 жыл бұрын
Charles-Étienne Cyr thank you! I’m actually using three drum machines in this(only one fitted in the frame): the MFB Tanzbär are doing the kick, an 8raw8(seen in picture)are doing regular drum sounds(hats, cymbals, snare, rim) and the vermona drm1 are doing the more glitchy sounds. I use it with shortest decay on all drums and run it through an OTO biscuit, for som dirt and noise. The Vermona are trigged by an random arpeggiator in ableton (so it’s just playing random 32-notes)!

He Mika, i'm a young composer and i'm starting to realise what my kind of sound is for my performances and listening to your sound it completes my feeling. Really thank you! I'm born (22 now) in a expensive period for synthesizers, don't have steady job now, but the things you make, make my dream and experiment more. Mercii. I have a Matriarch, i want a Perfourmer but that doesn't make the sound, it's all in the effects. What effect pedal would you recommend buying, having these two synthesizers? If only i could get a hand on a space echo, WHAT A SOUND!!! Thanks again. Ischa P.S. I love the Perfoumer | LFO sync with the Vermona DRM1 video, that's just heaven!
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your post Ischa, and it really means a lot to me if I can generate some inspiration! If you're on a budget and anyway are using a computer in your workflow, I would go for plugins with and a cheap MIDI-controller for hands on control(the reverbs and delays in Ableton are sounding great). This will probably give you the best sound for less money.. As a start for hardware effects I would recommend the Eventide H9 since they're packed with good sounding effects. I think they're out of production soon, but there must be plenty on the second hand market. Be aware of that the "H9-MAX" version contains all effect algorithms while "H9-CORE" and "H9" contains less, so it might be a good idea to investigate what algorithms you want(maybe Tape echo and blackhole?). Strymon also makes a lot of nice sounding effects(Volante and Nightsky seams really nice) and I've been using a lot of Line6 multi effects which you can find really cheap. There's also all kinds of boutique pedals out there that might be interesting for a more lofi or dirty sound.. Hope this can be any help!

Also bought the Perfourmer because of you videos. I just got it and it sounds magnificent. But I'm struggling the whole day with the poly mode to work properly. It's just switching the voices all the time and I dont have a clue at all. I read all the vermona manual 3 times and I don't know why it's always switching the voices. poly mode 1: 1,2,4,3 and polymode 2 1,2,3,4. Do you have any solution for this? Is my midi cable broken?
@kylemorin4040
@kylemorin4040 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucas. This is normal behaviour. The difference between the two modes is that in Poly 2 the held notes aren’t stored. The Perfourmer’s strength is really not in it’s polyphonic modes and is quite finicky in that respect.
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as Kyle said, it’s the charm with the perfourmer! Actually most poly-synths cycles trough all their voices but since they (often)share the same filter you can only hear a slight difference. You could set every voice to different midi-channels and program separate chord-notes to each voice. That way you’ll have full control over the voices but it’s not so intuitive. Another way is to program 4-note chords/pads that uses all the voices all the time - it mostly works but there’s always some passages where it doesn’t work. A good tip for this is to always start with the same voice - press one of the four buttons on the left and cycle through all voices and stop right before it comes to voice 1 again(or whatever voice you wanna start with). I found it a great tool to be able to “repeat” some patterns and this is great for that!
