Fun fact, I was one of the very first people to ever hear an album from this band. I met the drummer, Matt Halpern at a Coheed and Cambria show in Richmond back over ten years ago (damn) and it was really random how this happened... I was actually speaking with Chris Adler (Lamb of God drummer) who was also at the show and he introduced me and my cousin to Matt and said "this kid is already way better than I could ever dream of being" which I honestly couldn't believe. He introduced us and Matt attempted to explain to us what type of band Pheriphery was (which obviously wasn't easy) and after talking to us for close to an hour (we probably talked about football more than anything) and he eventually asked us for our emails and we gave them to him but kind of figured nothing would come from it. The next day we had an email from Matt and he gave us their debut album that was still a few months away from releasing and just asked us to let him know we thought of it. We were obviously blown away and both knew the type of band they would become and like Chris Adler said, Halpern was and is an absolute virtuoso drummer.

Actually spencer uses a tiny bit of tuning, but misha said in his livestream of the song demo, the tuning plugin finds it hard to pickup spencer's voice because of the natural distortion of his voice. So i guess it's a yes and no autotune?

There is definitely tuning. Pretty much every singer you hear in highly produced music uses some level of tuning, regardless of how good they are a singer.

It’s virtually impossible to pick a bad periphery song, so a few of my favorites: Mile Zero Stranger Things Absolomb Pale Aura 22 Faces Ji Rainbow Gravity Sentient Glow Letter Experiment Prayer Position Omega Zyglrox Luck as a Constant The Scourge Remain Indoors And of course all periphery fans MUST know every note of Icarus Lives! by heart. Thems the rules. ...so maybe more than a few, but should give you a decent place to start.

I wouldn't have said Spencer's early vocals are 'bad' but he's definitely got way better with each album. The first album sounds a bit more processed and I think Autotune was being used, but for the 2nd album they made a point of saying that there was no Autotune on the vocals at all. This latest album definitely has some of his finest vocal performances by a long way though. I find it amusing to remember some people saying they preferred the instrumental mixes of the first album so they didn't have to listen to Spencer, and now people are going crazy over the isolated vocal tracks of the latest stuff!

His vocals did get better, but it wasn't bad imo, people were just not used to his style yet, which if you notice has some pop/rnb ish elements like melody patterns you would usually find in those genres and he does a lot of belting. But also, before periphery4, they've always been much more guitar driven. The songs were built around the guitar parts. So the vocals didn't sound great in some parts and quite all over the place in some songs, especially where the guitar parts get very technical and experimental. Anyways, I think you'll like Luck As a Constant :)

Fun fact is that, i never considered Satellites a love song, but more like an emergency call of our planet or a meditation of a man who finally realized that we are destroying our planet. Anyway great reaction loved this one and the "Reptile" one, you should react to "Omega" by periphery, it's another pretty long song from their album "Juggernaut: Omega" and in my opinion one of their best song period, if not the best ever. Yes. There's bad Periphery songs... Most of their first album. The vocals are just so bad. I think most people only listen to the instrumental version of P1 cuz it's fucking phenomenal. One of my favorite instrumental songs is "Jetpacks Was Yes!" and the vocals kill the song. But every album after he's absolutely slayed it. If you want some good track without harsh vocals "Absolomb" is the best. "Erised" featuring a solo from John Petrucci, and "it's only smiles" off the current album is amazing too. But on the current album the 2 heaviest songs "Blood eagle" and "chvrch bvrner" are the singles oddly enough. Not sure how familiar you are with Dillinger Escape Plan but Chvrch Bvrner sounds like that lol Edit: there IS a bad Periphery song. "Catch Fire" from P3.
