Thanks that's really great @MarteoN -- visited Berlin two years ago it was wonderful.

The footage is most likely from spring/summer of 1964. At 8:30 you see the modern tower of the Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church) which appears completed (that was by 1963) and a few seconds later the camera captures the Europacenter under construction, which opened in 1965. The newest car I spot is a 1964 Plymouth Fury 4 door sedan at 5:55, sticking out its copious derrière in a parking lot full of much shorter 1950s and early-60s German cars.

What a nice Video about my hometown. I use the part of the Citymotorway, shown at about min 25:00 every day on my way to Work. This Film must been made between 1962, because the wall was beginning to build in 1961 but first IT was just a fence. And 1967, because in this year the last streetcars we're taken out of service.

I concur, Martin Luther King is referenced here and his speech in Berlin was in 1964.

Sorry I didn't understand what happened with the Berlin streetcars? Were these replaced with something else or?
@Stefan-o8e24 күн бұрын
@@matovicmmilan yes, by Subway and bus services. But only in West-Berlin, in east Berlin they remained in service until now.

It looks and sounds more like the early 60s the whole time, and @8'36 one can see the Europa Center under construction, which was inaugurated in 1965! But great footage anyway!

I was born and grew up in Berlin (West). 1970 I was 4 years old. Sadly today the reunited Berlin is a totally different town, I miss the town of my childhood.

Judging by the car models and how the people are dressed as well as the hair styles, I would say this was filmed in the early 1960s.

The actual time is September 13-14, 1964. The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at the opening of Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall at 11:00am on Sunday, September 13th. His visit to Berlin lasted from the afternoon of Saturday the 12th through the morning of Monday the 14th, when he flew to Munich.

Small correction, the film is from the 1960s. It must have been filmed between the construction of the wall 1961 and the end of Willy Brandt's departure as mayor 1966.

This was fantastic educational video. Gives my generation dramatic proof that people will always choose freedom VS communism
Rád bych podotknul že tento dokumentární film o západním Berlíně není z roku 1970 ale někdy z poloviny šedesátých let. Kdy ještě budoucí spolkový kancléř Willy Brandt byl starostou západního Berlína 😮

does anyone know what the mosaic factory was called (19:30), if this video was made in the 70's so it can’t be 'Puhl & Wagner' as they went out of business in 69. Any suggestions? Was this video made in the 60's and not the 70's?
