..with the amount of processing (styling, powdering, teasing, curling) that went into wig-styles made of natural hair, I bet you could do a perfectly passable wig out of goat hair, in the same way someone like Jaymes Mansfield (drag queen, youtuber) can transform a plasticky, shitty party-city wig into something kinda wearable, or at least way, way better than what it originally looked like. The kind of wigs people used to wear back then was essentially a process of turning natural hair into a sculptured piece, and nothing about that will retain the qualities of natural hair (shine, movement, how it feels when you touch it, etc). By the time you're done wrangling hair into that state and shape, the source might as well have been goat hair, and if you were detail-oriented enough in sourcing the goat hair for your wig with different levels of fineness (ie, mixing in baby goat hair), you could probably get something that's nearly indistinguishable from a "human hair unit". Another artisan job gone thanks to big pharma.

podcasts are usually dogshit but these guys are okay, just skip ahead to when the dates called out. Some of the episode 300-400 episodes are kinda low energy, but theres some real bangers hidden in there. The live shows are usually good too.
