Once the cats are done playing with the zippered door that was removed, staple it on the inside of the door to seal cracks and allowing air to infiltrate while water seeps down. If you are going to add corrugated roofing to the sides, consider adding a translucent UV stabilized panel on the roof crest allowing light to infiltrate into the storage shed. The cat door is genius. You’d better watch the child that suggested it; she is going to go far if allowed. Have you considered adding a couple shipping containers for a build similar to April & Red have on their homestead. (Red and April, Off-Grid Home Build.) Wishing you and your family a blessed new year. Greetings from NE Ohio. Peace

I love how you made this. Truly a great solution for your problems. Not that its remotely the same, but we put a kitty door on my son's garage inside door entrance to the main house. We put our kitty litter boxes out there to save space and keep any smell and any litter mess out of the house. We tried several indoor spots before this and the garage was the best solution. Ours has a lockable flap so we can keep them inside the house if we need the garage opened for extensive time. They now use the garage as their 'kitty apartment' and safe place to be alone if my granddaughter bugs them too much. They are not fans of being stuffed in her doll house.

i will be doing this on my 4 portable garages from HF where i built art projects & sculptures ... one is already covered on the *sunlit side* in the sheet metal from a defunct 8x8 shed, one with heavy vinyl donated from awning company when replacing old ... the ends are gonna require solid work, ive replaced numerous times since 2009. Yours is pretty, mine will not be, but doors will open OUT cause i need the interior space when doors are open. Your frameup has saved me time and headscratching ... woopee!

For the inside areas, might I suggest a light frame of left over wood strips, staple the ends together and then put 2 ply of vapor barrier plastic panels. These can be as solid as you want them to be. Affix the top of the panel on the bottom of each door. Being your doors open to the outside, use a piece of OSB board (they're pretty much waterproof - at least for a couple of years), do the burn thing (will add some amazing detail) and place it over the front panel of one of the doors. When you open them, the protector panel goes with the door. When closed, it "seals" the center gap. Or, you can go with the rubber stuff you use to line a bottom drawer shelf - they sell it at the dollar stores, thick-"ish"rubbery liner. Glue it to a piece of stiff cardboard and voilà, easy, cheap baffle. Of course, you'd put that on one of the insides of the doors. You could repeat that at the bottom too. For the adhesive, try the spray on Super 77 or E6000, then staple in place for extra security.

Hi. I have a similar structure from harbor freight and the main tarp was starting to degrade from uv also. I ordered another heavy duty tarp on eBay for about $100 to go over the original cover. The new cover protects the original cover from uv. The new cover is longer than the frame by about a foot. I made several extra holes in the edge of the tarp with a hot nail. Then use a 3/16 cord strung through the holes to secure the new tarp. Good luck

You guys have never done anything like that before? That is a testament to your know how and ingenuity. The fact that its gorgeous to boot is just the cake topper. Knocked it out of the park with this. I cant wait to see what you do to cover the "roof" I've seen some beautiful roofing metal some that even look like clay tile didn't even know those existed until the nomadic movement put them on their build. I'm guessing you'll just cut the tarp off at that point?

save the tarp maybe use it like john said as a back seal for water on the inside of the wood? im sure theres some sort of glue for said purpose.

I know you get lots of suggestions from all of us...... I would like to make one. When it comes time to clad the outside of the sheds, you might want to consider using a polly roof panel on the top center run. Then you will be able to get some natural light inside. Much love from Jonah in Alaska❤️🔥

Awesome barn style in the making. Btw get "ecowood". It will petrify your wood & stand the test of time. It's used for wood docking on lakes and coastlines. You just spray it on while your wood is still pristine & uncompromised by water. For now, hope you have a small hand torch to seal those outer trims

The door looks amazing! What about using the old tarp covering bits to drape over the feed, etc. in the shelter when driving rains come, once you get the new roofing on? It might not be useable as roof, but it would help stop soaking inside... you could also use the tarp as a cat flap door to keep direct rains out a bit better (maybe also strips attached along the bottom of the door for that purpose)... also, if it's a metal roof, are you going to afix some kind of insulation to the "ceiling" to keep it from cooking your chicken grains (and cats!) in the heat? Can't wait to see what you come up with to upgrade the shelter to a permanent one!
@TinyShinyHome3 жыл бұрын
We already do that for hay and alfafa for sure, thanks :) No insulation, but we'll build in some kind of airflow or vent.
@killcrazyvegan3 жыл бұрын
@@TinyShinyHome metal panels rapidly re-radiate from hot to cold, ventilation isn’t going to cure it. The temp swings inside will be worse than outside, really bad for storage. Feed will ferment, cardboard will go to mush, plastic will embrittle and shatter, etc. Plus corrugated metal panels are too heavy for the poles, by the time you get done you’ll have built an inferior shed with a hoop frame attached to the interior...maybe use uv-stabilized resin panels lengthwise with strategic blocking and bracing to control shear force - leave a gap at the top and use a ridge vent or diy one from roll ridge vent (there’s prolly cheaper ways to DIY a leakproof ridge vent)... You could put some mesh over the fabric and paint latex cement over it. Latex cement seems to be worth about 5 years of desert southwest exposure, longer if you regularly paint it over with roof coating...Maybe add an extra fabric layer under the mesh if the existing fabric doesn’t stick to the cement. The mesh will make it a concrete shell and the shape from the hoops is self-supporting. Zipties to attach the mesh to the hoops, diy some kind of simple standoff. You’ll need some interior bracing whilst applying the cement, a few t-poles should suffice. If you haven’t thrown away the door fabric already, save it and I’ll come by and get it this month for a latex cement experiment. I suspect it’s not going to stick but act more like a peel ply. I’m assuming it’s like the cheap supposedly weatherproof tarps I get at Home Depot (leaked like a sieve after two months of Tucson monsoon season...). whew! sorry I got carried away. DM/IM/PM me if you want to follow up.

The latest bizzard ripped the top apart on my identicle Shelter Logic, a 12 by 20. Contrary to yours the frame skeleton wasn't sufficient for the snow load. In purchasing another kit for its tarp to save the contents I used the redundant frame parts to shorten the spacing between verticle bars and and add two horizontal frame rails up top. Fingers crossed it will get me through the next Canadian blizzard.
@TinyShinyHome2 жыл бұрын
Interesting about the snow load - if it accumulated on the tarp part yeah I could see the whole thing failing. Sorry you've had so much trouble with them!

Okay guys, just a tip for cutting your mortise joints. Once you cut the wafers and break them out, you can use your saw like a router and shafe the plate of your joints to the exact depth you need since your saw depth is already set. Simply turn your skill saw on and pull the guard back and use the edge of the blade to shave the wood to the exact depth you need. Just for future reference you can also mount your saw in a plywood table at about 45 degrees and make raised panel doors too. Just some tips to keep in mind to make things faster for yourselves.
