Melissa, thank you, thank you, thank you! I just purchased the Orion PJ for permanent jewelry and for other uses. I have been metalsmithing for 3 years now taking courses with The Jewellers Academy. Your video is a breath of fresh air. Knowing the jewelry making side of things leaves me with so many questions from other training I am finding online and some of the comments I am seeing in the PJ groups on social media. I am definitely interested in additional training with you. Please let me know how I can find out what your offerings are. Thank you again for sharing your expertise.

I just bought a fully welded chain mail shirt. It's just butchers mail, only 24 gauge stainless wire, but still needs an argon set up to be properly tailored. Hence, my need for an education in welding small wires. Thank you so much for the video! Please never delete it!

Hi! I was hoping you would be able to share pictures of your welds in your notebook like you did for your sterling silver. I know you said it's best to do your own but this would be a great starting point! I have been looking everywhere for somewhat of a guide for wattage with certain metals/sizes. Thank you for your very informative video!

Hello, When welding gold, does pulse welding introduce any additional material to the part being welded, or does it merely connect the gold material without adding extra substance? If so, is it essential for the wire to be made of gold? Thank you for your video.
@MelissaMuir Жыл бұрын
Without adding anything it is fusing the materials. When I add material, I want it to be the same as the material that I am welding.

I weld alumimum, steel, and stainless. Copper sometimes. A lot of this translates to silver and gold apparently. Blunt the tip with aluminium also.

I am thinking about buying Orion mPulse Pulse Arc Welder or 100c. I am worried about power of welder. I am using 14K gold field wire from 26gage to 10gage for my jewelry. which one do you recommend for me? Could you give me an advise ? I learned about using 18K filler for welding 14KGF in this video, so I am going to use 18KG too. I am really excited to use welder machine. Thank you!!
@MelissaMuir11 ай бұрын
It will have a harder time with 10 gauge. The lower gauges of wire should do well. But as you get higher, you will need more power. And you won’t get as deep of a weld. The mPulse will certainly not do well above about 14 gauge. Go as high as you can afford.

Great information! You are really good at explaining in a way that makes sense and practical. I was able to follow (understand) even though I'm not a professional. Heck, I'm not even a hobbyist anymore. I was....TWENTY YEARS AGO but haven't "made" anything (other than for myself for years) I just found you in a search for permanent jewelry. For years I've have had my bracelets soldered on by a dear friend (who pasted away last year) I've been unable to find a jeweler that will do it for some reason. Do you have any suggestions "how" I should ask? I've taken 3 bracelets (two sterling one a "Kabonna" & a "Bixby" and one GF but over a hundred years old GF (I wore this GF bracelet everyday for 10 years and it still looks like solid gold, I don't know how they did GF back then, but the quality is simply AMAZING) to in and had security chains installed and they always break at the jumping even though they're "supposedly" to be soldered .
@MelissaMuir Жыл бұрын
That is an amazing gold fill. Are you positive that it is goldfill? How did your friend solder the bracelet on? With a torch?
Curious to know if this same welder can be used for jewelry fabrication and repair? (ring bands, embellishments, etc.)
@MelissaMuir Жыл бұрын
Yes. Absolutely. If you look at some of my other videos you will see that I have a few videos where I use it for fabrication and such

Thank you! Question, the link for Speed wire holders has "14K White 28 Gauge 10' Laser Wire Refill" Is this for the wire or the holders?
@MelissaMuir Жыл бұрын
You will have to select from the drop down menus. You will have the option of selecting the holders themselves or the wire that will go into them.
