Gentaro has, regardless of age, always melted my heart! His face always appears to show innocence and his eyes show so much expression. With only a small window of a few minutes into the behaviors of these animals, it does appear that mom treats Gentaro & Kintaro differently. However I try to remember that Gentaro was taken due to mom's inability to breastfeed him and raised by humans for 10 months. Perhaps it is this fact that makes the difference. I choose to believe she loves Gentaro but, like in this video, he is no longer below the age of 3 and reliant on her like Kintaro. I just wish I knew more about "Gorilla Life"! Does anyone know of good sources to read?

@@marilynmicoletti2812 Thank you for your comment, Marilyn. I now know more than I did about the Momotaro family a year ago. You were right, I've now seen many videos of them from the time he was returned to her at 10 months until the age of 7 when Kintaro was born. With the exception of breastfeeding, she treated Gentaro the same as she treats Kintaro. She has been and is a lovely mother to her two sons, even though its awkward for Gentaro at his current age.

4:50. Gent was raised by a human for the first 10 months. (We all know that) but how profoundly that impacted a baby gorilla. Gorillas in zoo's are somewhat domesticated, they depend on humans to survive. But Gentaro for the first 10 months had direct human interaction. So he started off with human intelligence as his main influence. His mental foundation was human emotions, which were stong since the keepers main goal was to keep him alive to supply everything he needs to grow up strong and healthy, thats alot of love and care. So to get dropped back into gorilla way of life must of been quite a shock. Gentaro looking at mother Genki 4:50 with those eyes, looking for something she can not give. Makes me sad for him, and only makes like him more.

Go back and see the reunion video with Genki and Gentaro. Look at the very first thing she's interested in after looking all around and making sure they aren't being observed... she roughly spreads his little infant legs wide apart to start yanking on his privates, whoops, my bad..she gives his genitals a thorough "health check". There was no maternal affection, just molestation, and they should have removed that precious baby from her right then and there, and found a surrogate. Through the years if you notice, when Gentaro is desperate for her to notice him and has tried other ways, as a last resort he always backs up to her and bends over for a "health check". I think that was the only way he could be assured of her attention was to offer himself up to be molested by his own mother. Of course he's sad. It's painful to see, and Kinny was not immune from her constant oral "health checks" as well as the usual twisting, pulling, yanking and sucking her infant sons genitals. How they still have intact functional private parts is a miracle, and as another viewer commented, "Those boys have the cleanest private parts in Japan," referring to her performing oral sex on them constantly. It's hard to find videos that don't have her fondling them at the very least. And the zoo never did one thing to stop it. Whoever does the editing has a tiresome job to try and cut out all the "x" rated scenes, but there are channels that don't edit it out, and you can't bear to watch what the so-called paragon of motherhood does to both her sons. They sentenced Gentaro to a life of being unloved and abused, and cut off from finding an appropriate mate of his own.

Genki looks like she's rejecting Gentaro but I don't think so. This video is just a shot in time. He has that begging look like Kintaro who is trying to get to the milk bar. I know the "books" say weaning occurs by age 3yrs, but if you look at other troops, wild and captive, weaning is on a continuum. It isn't unusual to see babies beg for milk up to age 7yrs. Genki has always been very invested in Gentaro. When he was taken from her at age 5 days it was because of poor milk production. (Same with Kintaro. ) BUT everyday he was brought to her to touch, pat and smell even though it was between bars. Even Momo came to visit. I had read that she screamed and cried when her babies were removed. I think part of our perception is skewed is that there was not a big following of gorilla babies then as it is now, so we see more vids of Kintaro. If you think Genki has little love for Gentaro, try letting someone or something try to harm him. I guarantee you would not only have to deal with an angry Momo (scarey) but a crazed angry Genki (scariest!).

Gentaro touche chacun des spectateurs avec un regard particulièrement attendrissant que l’on peut toujours observer actuellement. C’est touchant de le voir accablé par Genki quand on ne la voit pas se comporter agressivement avec son plus jeune gorille. Dans quelle mesure l’absence d’allaitement pour Gentaro aurait elle pu façonner leur relations, même quand on sait le remarquable instinct maternel de Genki ? Genki's has always beaten up on Gentero. She's always had mental problems. Kentero was her salvation when he was born.
