Permissions, ACLs, and Attributes. (Linux+ Objective 2.5.3)

Linux has standard POSIX permissions, but if that's not enough, you can add in ACLs for more fine-tuned user and group specific stuff. PLUS, you can use attributes to really fine tune what can and can't be done.
There are also some non-permission based nuances in the form of SUID, GUID, and the Sticky Bit. Linux is flexible, and at times overwhelming. This video should help clarify some of the more confusing aspects of file management!

@14.16 Imagine your friend has a car that only they can drive because they own it (analogous to file ownership and permissions). However, your friend decides to set a special feature on their car (SUID) that allows you (and only you) to drive it as if you were the owner when you need to.

Agreed. Sort of a "dropbox file" kind of situation at that point. We used to do something sorta like that for folders. So students could turn in assignments, but not see what was in the folder they moved their files into.
