Variables, Conditionals, and BASH (Linux+ Objective 3.1.1)

When creating automations on the Linux commandline, it's vital to understand how BASH variables work, including parent/child inheritance. Then, when comparing items, conditionals allow a script to perform different operations depending on what the variables contain.

Shawn, I really appreciate your content. I'm currently using these videos to prepare for the Linux+ certification this year. Thank you for your work. I've done video tutorials in my last 2 jobs and know it's a lot of work to prepare the material (organize it in an understandable way), film it (with bloopers), and then editing it. I know that for every 30 mins of footage, you're probably spending 5-10+ hours off screen. Great Job!!!

is bash implied? the Linux+ objectives just says shell scripting. would the enhanced bash functionality cause an issue on the test, if they are expecting a more agnostic scripting environment?

I think implied just by tradition. Likely, any references in the test will be 100% POSIX compliant, but I talk about things like double brackets so when people find code snippets on the internet they'll have a clue why it might or might not work. (I go more in depth with the BASH course, but yeah, I don't feel too bad specifically using BASH here)
