Top is a break if my memory is correct same on the no 50. They lost people over the side mount design. Great video buddy.

The small one is a drag increase. I have been using these automatics for years. It`s one handed fishing, no sloppy line to get tangled The loco cutthroat trout can get to about 4 lbs. With a Dry Fly and 3 lb. leader it is a battle of gentleness. The small leaver is a proportional drag increase for the man against fish contest. I like to give them a good work out, take a picture then roll out the barbless .

Why the fascination with automatic fly reels? Do you intend to try fly fishing or are you going to sell them? I can’t believe you are collecting them. I watched this entire video because I found it fascinating. These reels are of absolutely no use to me but the mechanics involved are ingenious to say the least. Great video Rick! - Chris

Chris, I tried my hand at fly fishing many years ago and I was not very good at it. It takes a control and finesse that I lack. These reels remind me of my Japanese wind up toys I had as a kid. I will probably never use them but at $5 each, I found it hard not to rescue them. I still have a Horrocks-Ibbotson and a Martin left to do and I will be done with all of them I have. There aren’t very popular videos but you’d be amazed how many people contact me about the earlier Perrine and Martin videos I did a while back. I figured I’d pick these up and add those in to help others. They really are interesting reels. I’ll probably give them to Ken and let him sell them on EBay.

@@youngmartinsreels5314Rick, if you are going to get rid of this reel I’d actually like to have it. I doubt I’ll ever fish with it but I was so fascinated by this one that I’d like to have a chance at getting it as long as it isn’ very expensive. I could certainly put it on a long light action jigging rod I have and try fishing with it at a pond somewhere. I am afraid the line and a few flies would cost a lot but I don’t know. It you have other plans I certainly understand. Honestly I can’t even believe I’m asking about it. - Chris. PS. I have had a miserable day with kidney colic (stone), I’m trying to stay out of the hospital if I can. - Chris

Okay Chris, how does $15 shipped sound? That will cover my $5 investment and pay for the shipping.
