Perry Como says goodbye to Chesterfield, CBS and 15 minute programs on Friday June 24, 1955. He is as loose as Dean would be ten years later, and he jumps on the camera dolly like Jerry. Mrs. Como makes a surprise appearance at the conclusion.

I love this- shows the real Perry: funny, spontaneous & the best singer !!! And handsome!!! I get very tired of all the sleepy comments. What a devoted husband & father he was, too.

I love his casual spontaneous style -- he had a lot of fun on his show, and so did his audience! That was live TV in the 50s, I miss it!

me too...that kind of music and show is so very gone. that's when a song was a song by all definition. Perry was not only pleasant to look at, his singing style and beautiful voice never failed to be "dreamy." So glad I lived when this guy was around.....golden days we were blessed with.

Interesting show. I didn't live in the era of live television. My memories of him are from much later when we'd watch his Christmas shows. I am fortunate to have been able to see him in concert in the 1980s.

WOW!! Quite a performance. I loved the choice of songs: "Goodbye, Sue" from the start of his great recording career with RCA and "Big, Wide Wonderful World" and "Beyond the Blue Horizon," the words of which speak of optimism for the years ahead, optimism that was mightily realized! A rising sun did lie beyond the blue horizon.

I recall i was invited to warch the recording of perry on sesame street with big bird.my coat was draped over the rail in fron of us.perry came over leant on my coat and said boy i am pooped.

CBS eliminated their weeknight 7:30pm(et) "news and music" combo that September {"DOUGLAS EDWARDS WITH THE NEWS" moved to 6:45pm}, so they could program more "action-adventure" half hours aimed at kids {'THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD", "BRAVE EAGLE", "SERGEANT PRESTON OF THE YUKON", "THE ADVENTURES OF CHAMPION"}- the sole exception was "NAME THAT TUNE", on Tuesdays. Perry moved on to NBC, who gave him a full hour on Saturday nights at 8pm(et). The next time he appeared for Liggett & Myers was during the 90 minute tribute to Manie Sacks (his mentor at RCA Victor), "Some Friends of Manie's" {March 3, 1959}.
