Perry was a very strong man of faith, he was a practicing Catholic, and received communion every day at Mass, May He Rest In Peace.

So amazing to watch this. The year I was born, so I am pretty sure my parents were watching - probably half asleep. Still have our Perry Como Christmas album and play it for my grandkids. Hey - the oldest is into vinyl.

Christmas seasons back in the 1950's were magical. Perry Como was one of the reasons why. I sure miss those days.

Aside from the cigarette advertising- which was EVERYWHERE back then- this is beautiful... Mr. C sang songs of faith with deep conviction. Merry Christmas to all!

As in previous Christmas broadcasts, Perry insisted on "no commercials during the show". Liggett & Myers complied- but that didn't stop announcer Dick Stark from lighting one {he was required to, as part of his "pitches" for Chesterfield}.

Back when American had clean streets, near full employment, respect in the world and far less crime, this is what was viewed. Makes you realize jsut how very suckered we all by by the folly pf pc and the like.

Wasn't Perry a lifelong and devout Catholic? I guess he did a lot of pretending for the orchestra.
@stevenfeltes16755 жыл бұрын
@@EyeShotFirst he was a life long catholic and it was not " yuk " to him. All of his shows had some sign of faith .
@EyeShotFirst5 жыл бұрын
@@stevenfeltes1675 That's the argument I was making. He didn't need to do any of that, it was his show, but he did it all the same. He didn't need to record Christian albums, but he did. There were other crooners of his generation that didn't.
@josephpalermo45384 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ with you..Perry took his faith very seriously....and he had his convictions...would never accept any thing that he was morally objected to...or just for the money...get your facts straight.!!!!
