100 years ago, Communists took power in Russia. The October Revolution in 1917 marks the start of suffering of Christians in Russia. They were persecuted and murdered. The new regime regime even converted monasteries like the Novospassky monastery in Moscow into where thousands of prisoners were tortured and shot. In this interview, Bishop Sava remembers the times of persecution and explains why Christendom is so important for Russia today. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, more than 30,000 churches were built or re-opened. Today, most Russians are confessed Christians. Miodrag Soric reports from Moscow.
