Exquisite luxury of furnishings, food, and time. What a lovely trip we took with you! Thank you for doing an excellent video tour. Some prices - Lowest cost is around USD$300 - $3500 on average for twin / single cabin. Cabin Suites are double. Grand Luxury Suite is 4 times more. The food is included along with coffee, tea, but drinks are extra. Which is good as we don't need drunk passengers. There are no showers on train. There is a well appointed bathroom - one per car, and your own personal sink in each cabin. There are routes from London or Paris or Berlin. Going to Prague, Verona, Venice. Istanbul costs $21,000! Feedback: Show us more of toilets, sink, how beds work, bed linen service, inside each lounge, and a bit less of train stations.

Everything on this train has a most beautiful vibes from the Royals and Aristocrats who were first and foremost designed for at that time. The service from French waiters compared to the English waiters were a universe apart. How the French smiled and made eye contact, whereas the English Pullman waiters just about dropped the plate onto the table whilst moving along just spoke volumes to me. For the english it's a job that requires to be done, for the French & Italians, a vocation, pride in providing excellent service. This is one thing that really stood out for me in comparison of the services received. Pullman take note!!

Such an elegant and sophisticated train and the food looked delicious, what beautiful memories for all those who experienced a glimpse back in time to the golden age of travel. One observation, it’s a a shame the dress code was not a little more befitting for such an iconic train as the staff appeared better turned out than what one could see of some of the guests. Of course each to their own but a little extra effort never goes a miss in this life. For all those who aspire to travel on the Orient Express I hope your dreams come true, and that each moment on board makes for happy memories.

An experience of a lifetime! My wife and I had an experience of a lifetime in mid-May of 1999 spending two weeks in Paris and the Loire River Valley with our two children, 14 month old and a ~4yr old. My wife has since passed, this trip was up for consideration for our 25th anniversary so this video was a "what could have been" second trip of a lifetime experience! We're Agatha Christy fans, especially the tv1 Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) episodes, so this would have been the perfect literary/tv series/gourmet/rail train/scenic/European travel. Maybe I'll win a lottery and take my sister (we're 70 and 71 somehow). Anyway, wonderful video trip! Thanks

Brian Carson I for one like voice overs, I know to know what is going on, how the food tastes, what the travel vlogger thinks... a bit of history about things. If there is no talking, how in the heck do you LEARN what the trip is about? GOOD music can also add, but I agree, nothing loud or obnoxious like trancing disco or the like.... something light and classical adds so much to travel vlogs.

I took this journey a few times with my sister as she hates airplanes. As fair as trains go, its a nice experience. However, the minute you exit your private cabins you are met with a bunch of excited american tourist types. Kills the vibe. I swear to god one time there was a retirement party with loud old people dressed like flappers on board. Another time there was a very Maury/Jermey kyle-esque family of 5 on board wearing hoodies etc. Be prepared to encounter those people!

So, the trip lasts 24 hours and costs a bit under US $ 3,000, depending on the exchange rate (about GDP 2,350), per person. Out of these 24 hours, you spend about 7 to 8 hour spleeping, while the train continues along its route during the night, apparently between Innsbruck and Paris. Looks like you miss some nice scenery (Switzerland, Bavaria, Jura in Eastern France). The scenery East of Paris (from Metz or the Vosges) is pretty boring. It would be a better deal if the train stopped for the night, running only during daytime, and guests were accommodated in a nice hotel along the way, so that they could enjoy views of the Alps and the Schwarzwald. As is it's a lot of money for relatively little (you don't even have a shower unless you book a suite, which is a lot more expensive).

Yes that is true, You sleep during some nice sceneries. If they would stop that would be better but it was a nice trip anyway but you are absolutely wright
@gregburma
@gregburma 5 жыл бұрын
Yes- it's pretty "piss-poor" value when you consider the short time, and what you have highlighted about missing the best scenery, and the service seems pretentious rather than friendly; there are NO showers for most people, as you say (Yuk!), and just one shared toilet per car (naff!), no breaks for a quick tour, plus you've really hit the spot when you say about the missing overnight break. There's no entertainment to break down the barriers, so it's just a poseur's paradise, and I guess few people make friends on the trip, rather than its being a relaxed fun-filled tour. Also, there's such a thing as "over-restoration"- is all that veneer on the panels symptomatic of the people it attracts? Verdict: cheapskate quickie with high pretentiouns. (Oh and leave the bottle, I'LL pour the champers).

It was actually very therapeutic for me to see this video, particularly at this time. Just last night, I read an article by a reporter who was paid by the studio who did the recent remake of the Agatha Christie movie to take a ride aboard the Orient Express. The pictures looked so alluring, I felt really jealous and deprived. Why can't I go on this train? Why don't I have the money to do it? Boo-hoo-hoo and so on. But, after seeing the video, I don't feel deprived, anymore. Granted, the train is more ornamented than any other train I've ever taken, but train travel when I was little was quite elegant. We used trains when my parents took me on vacations to visit relatives. When I was a child, you had attentive staff and nice china for your meals. Now, trains are cattle cars, moving people around and you overpay for a tasteless, shrink-wrapped sandwich. Even though I was young, I remember how it used to be. I'll have to find another travel goal than the Orient Express, now. Fortunately, there are plenty of others out there.

I took the London --> Paris VSOE leg in the autumn of 1983 when you could still reserve a non-overnight sleeper. I was 27, one of the youngest passengers I saw, & was a woman traveling solo which provoked--not in a bad way--comments the entire trip. I splurged (for me) on the $40 dinner & my budget only allowed me to drink water. However, when my entree appeared, my darling waiter presented me with a complimentary glass of champagne he had been hiding behind his back. :) About 15 years later or so, I took the British Pullman version from Victoria Station to Bath for the day. That, too, was a wonderful experience!! I can't wait to board the VSOE again to do the Venice--> London route.

Claude Belanger Yes, Canada. You must take the famous "Canadian Rocky Mountaineer" Opulent Train from Vancouver, BC to Banff, Alberta. The scenery is outstanding and the service bar none. Take the Gold Leaf option or Silver leaf coach option for the finest in Canadian hospitality. Then stay at the famous Banff Springs Hotel ! Happy Trails ! Cheers !

I would love to experience this one day if afforded. The craftsmanship is incredible and the service appears friendly and generous.I'm not keen on the food presentation or form,as I generally enjoy identifying my own food without a guide. I'm sure it was likely delicious and an overall pleasant holiday.Great video overall and I appreciate the lack of commentary and overlaid music.

Looked like a fantastic trip: One thing though; the moment you went on the couch, it seemed like the level of service and attitude with the staff, went one way, down. And the way you got served, it seemed like they actually was throwing the food on to your plates... the beginning managed to serve baguettes with a bit of style behind it...

Thanks for the upload. This highlights just how ordinary and tacky modern trains are in comparison, they have speed and nothing else. On a related subject, it's a tragedy that the Italian Govt. lacks the courage to severely limit the number of tourists at any one time to Venice - the city is losing all it's citizens and is in danger of becoming a place purely for tourism which means it's no longer a real city but just a theme park.
@HorridDave
@HorridDave 6 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but how would it be losing its citizens? Surely if tourism is growing so does the need of actual italians taking care of the business?
@jonathantan2469

A lot of native Venetians are moving out due to high property prices (hard for young Venetians to buy), high living costs (tourism plus logistics since all essentials are shipped by boat), and non-tourism related businesses moving to the mainland where costs are lower.

True story! The same is happening in Lisbon. People are being dislodged. Community places are being converted to hotels, and the cost of housing and rents is now prohibitive, especially in the historic zone.
@Francesca42

Yes, I too have heard that Venice has gotten too expensive for the Venetians to live there so they are moving outside of Venice. I have also heard that some Italian cities are thinking of limiting the number of people allowed in at a time. I don't see how they can do it though.
