8 million years ago when album covers were black and white, I roadied for Persion Risk when they were playing around the Caerphilly area. At the time Jon Deverill was the singer who moved on to sing for the Tygers Of Pan Tang and Phil was one of the guitar players. I met them later at the Battle Of The Bands competition in the Top Rank in Cardiff. My band Gathering Dust won our heat ahead of Persion Risk as we were playing Ska Reggae music and the Persion Risk style of rock was dying out. Anyway, Gathering Dust is now gathering dust and Persian Risk is Rocking.

Playing the night to the people Music is sounding so bright. Singing the songs for to please, And making the music so tight. Left the place where I played, On my way back home. Feeling tired and worn now, Driving into the dawn. Not far away from home, where we lost control, With impact we hit, Leaving us so cold. But no one thought of the night, An unpleasant fright. We needed help, Calling for you! Drinking to us and good times. Not knowing what’s to come. You can still see the full moon rising. So now we have to move on. Messin round and joking, Caused the accident, Crying out there in pain, Calling for some help. Not far away from home, where we lost control, With impact we hit, Leaving us so cold. But no one thought of the night, An unpleasant fright. We needed help, Calling for you!

One of the best songs into the global classic heavy metal I'm not afraid To die in the day But at night the delight Seems a lifetime away Love will take you like a magnet Just when you feel secure I'm so afraid Please don't let me fall I was safe inside my sadness No passion to endure Now I find myself Hopeless and forlorn And I'm so afraid that love will take its toll But then I see your face Or was it just a dream You said open your eyes What do you see That you're a lonely lonely man Without a heart You said open your eyes What do you see Come on open your eyes What do you see Like a bird on the wing Or a song that you sing You can find yourself flying oh so free You can move without a trace Get about most anyplace Come on open your eyes What do you see Come on open your eyes What do you see But then I see your face Or was it just a dream? You said open your eyes What do you see That you're a lonely lonely man Without a heart You said open your eyes What do you see Come on open your eyes What do you see Come on open your eyes What do you see Open your eyes What do you see?

A lot of time has passed since the heyday of the NWOBHM ended but the magic and powersurges still rage rampant in all of the works created in that truly magic time in music history and left behind. Absolute British Power and Majesty has always been reflected in it's heavy metal.

A big thanks to Tommy 'the voice' Vance for championing so many bands at the time AND to be fair, Kerrang! when it wasn't a 'metal' magazine for 6 year old smurfs. I wouldn't still own the white label of Diamond Head's first album if it wasn't for Kerrang!'s who to look out for section. God we looked scruffy buggers back then. Great, GREAT times.
