LYRICS
Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And none of us could reach that high
She came on like a teaser
I had to touch and please her
Enjoy a little paradise
The lock was in my pocket
When Lucy met the rocket
She never knew the reason why
I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
Oh it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
It's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
It's not against the law
The point of no return
And now you know the score
And now you're learning
What's knockin' at your back door
Sweet Nancy was so fancy
To get into her pants
We had to be the aristocracy
The members that she toyed with
At city club were something in diplomacy
So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
A master of many tongues
And now she eases gently
From her Austin to her Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young
I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
Oh it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
It's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
No it's not against the law
The point of no return
Now how you know the score
And now you're learning
What's knockin' at your back door
Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And one of us could reach that high
I can't deny it
With that smile on my face
Oh oh, it's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
Knocking at your door
You know it's no good running
No it's knocking at your door
Knockin' at your back door

I grew up listening to Deep Purple. This song and Perfect Strangers are two of my favorite songs. Jon Lord was a master on the keyboard. My Dad says one of the best concerts he ever seen was at The Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. It was in 1985 during the Perfect Strangers Tour. The entire stage was smoked out and the lazer light show was amazing. Richie Blackmore is seen walking in and kicks a soccer ball out into the crowd. Everyone went wild. They opened with Highway Star. I wish I would have grown up back in those days. Everyone went to concerts and they were dirt cheap. They'd hitchhike sometime from Northern Michigan all the way to Detroit or Pontiac. They didn't give a shit back in those days. They'd do anything to make it to a concert!!

I saw this tour in Worcester, MA. Think it was late 84. I was only 15 and I had a ticket for my best friend Scott, but at the last minute he said he couldn't go, so I went by myself. My dad drove me to the arena and picked me up after. I went to probably 50 or 60 concerts in high school and my parents never gave me a hard time about it, although I'm sure they worried once I started driving myself to the shows. But nothing bad ever happened and I always had a great time while losing my hearing lol. I love you Mom and Dad and you too Scott, where ever you are!

Mmmhh thats debatable. Although their first albums were def hard rock. Into the 80's their music was more and more heavy. Listen to "stormbringer" , "perfect strangers" , "under the gun" compare it to other bands of the time that were considered metal. Judas priest " you got another thing coming" i.e. and you'll realize what I mean. Def has metal repertoire. They just didi'nt stick to that style so to speak.

i first heard this at 7 years old. the opening 60 seconds frightened me so much my mother says I ran away to my room. it feels like there is something evil, an inescapable doom approaching that is about to horrifically end your life, and there is nothing you can do. days later i had to hear it. i craved it. i tried to find it on the radio. finally my uncle played it for me in its entirety. thus began my metal worship.

Just as a public service to the young Deep Purple fans. In the 80's the video's had little to do with the true meaning of the songs. Hell we were just glad Purple was jammin again. Deep Purple was and always will be the mark that any band wishes to make. They have and had respect of fans and other musicians alike.

I wish I knew about LA. I have an 80's radio station here, and the 70's are covered well. I mainly rely on my streaming through my iPhone/earplugs. And you're right, as very limited new music being released of quality today.

In my opinion, we don't really have any rock music today. Are there even any new actual rock bands? I guess Greta Van Fleet, if you like Led Zeppelin and if you're here, I'm guessing you do, lol, they're very good. Also, they seem to be following the, if you're gonna make a hard rock music video, you need a generic post apocalyptic set (ok that may be stretching it a bit, but you be the judge: dead trees, rocks, sand, the aurora borealis, tribal gear) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmfCp6GHmJaieKc

Nah. Comeback song, comeback album. Good for first time ever getting to see them in concert circa 1984 after migrating to Melbourne from Tassie. Their best was Machine Head and 24 Carat Purple compilation, and of course Burn 🔥. What in turn got me into Whitesnake, BoC and Yes.

This Deep Purple album was the Album of the year. I truly believe Ian Gillen is one of the most underrated rock in roll singers ever . He has song on so many great albums and is in my top 5 singers for Rock and roll . His one album with Black Sabbath is one of the most underrated Sabbath albums too. He has had the opportunity to work with some of the best Rock musicians in the world . Perfect Strangers album is a top 10 album for me because every song on the album is great and I'm glad Deep Purple got back together to make this album happen.

This was the third phase of Purple. The first with Rod Evans on vocals. Then Ian Gillan really took them to the next level. I Worshiped this band as a teenager and by the time I was old enough to attend concerts he had already left the band. So I saw Rainbow live with both Dio and Bonnett. But man when Ian Gillan returned it was a dream come true to see finally see this great band perform the classics and this new material was awesome. They actually had a full cocktail bar set up in the concert stadium. You could party down do shots or whatever and watch these guys live. When I first went to shows you had to sneak a bottle in. No alcohol served oh well I was too young too drink anyway so I might as well enjoy the concert with all of the weed being passed around half the audience was stoned out of their minds for these shows including myself. and it's funny Pot is legal now and I have no interest in toking weed. The Good Ol Days.
