@@amourdeparis yup, still here. I was tempted to chop it down because the fruit falls and makes a mess everywhere, but glad I didn’t; I didn’t know it was that old. But check my replies in the other posts.

This lady and my mother are like sisters from different parents. My mom is just like her. We have two big mango trees planted by my our father about 30 years ago and still fruiting. Every year during harvest my mother has list of about 60 neigbours( discounting the birds coming) to send a basket of mangoes and they expect their gifts every year because they are like a family. The interesting thing is we couldn't even harvest all the fruits and the top fruits are left for the birds and the birds will not leave our property for a month until every thing is exhosted. We peak the fruits in the same way as on this video but we make a home made picking pole with that plastic soda bottle cut in half and insert a long pole to the mouth of the pole. Lots of memories overflow. Hehe😂

I love that this woman didn’t leave during white flight. She was truly progressive for her time. She looked forward to who the new residents would be and befriended them. You see the friendship with her black neighbor is genuine.

This is a great story. That's the most beautiful and fruitful persimmon tree I've ever seen. Esther is a rarity also, what a nice and enthusiastic person she is. I have started growing persimmons and pawpaws here in CT and would love to get a few pieces of scion wood when this tree is dormant to graft on to a cold-hardy persimmon.

@@veggiedisease123 Is that magical persimmon tree still there and still putting out fruits? If yes, I would love to visit that tree. I live in New York City.

@@phongphong4640 I'm pretty sure it's still there, I can barely see it poking above the roof on streetview. The house is at 4036 Brighton. It looks like the new owner renovated it.

I own this home now since 2015. This woman is the second owner, and I guess I'm the 4th owner. The persimmon tree is still back here. I've not chopped it down despite not liking this kind of persimmon (I like the Fuyu variant). But it's a huge headache as the fruit falls and bursts on the ground. I got rid of the azaleas though; because that old fence collapsed and I had to install a new Vinyl fence. Got rid of the bougainvillea. Major headache with to control. And small annoying leaves everywhere. The avocado tree is still here, and I love it. It's the tree next to the picnic table. I'm surprised they didn't mention it. The fruit is HUGE. I sell them $1 a pop and make several hundred $$ per year. 11:04 - that small rose garden back there is no more. In fact, someone attached a plywood shed that comes off the back of the garage in that space. I still receive mail for Mrs. DeBarr. Sadly, she has passed away some time ago. Only goes to show, that everything we love and think we "own" in this life is temporary. :(
