confession time, I was gonna watch this first time alongside the guides, but I caved and watched the entire series. The Elias arc is probably the biggest thing that makes me stand up on the "Don't skip season one" soap box with you, especially for an episode a little ways off still, and I forgot they do not waste any time setting it up

one of poi's strongest points is definitely the continuity i think and so many things are being set up since s1 or early s2 really, skipping anything ruins the rest of the experience imo

hard agree. so much backstory, world norm establishing happens in s1. it’s also nice to enjoy its relatively lower stakes before things go INSANE

I will always have a special place in my heart for season 1 of POI because I started watching it my freshman year of college as a distraction from my awful roommate. I could just tune out the world and fixate on these dudes and their hijinks and not have to listen to her for a few hours, and I still rewatch season one when I’m feeling down. Team Machine!

I can't wait for you get to episode 6, The Fix, it introduces one of my favorite characters on the show, and after it, episode 7, it is the first great episode of the series. The Greatest thing about POI is that there are several moments where you think you have it essentially figured it out, especially in regards to backstory , that it would be entirely unnecessary to have any more explanation. You have already gotten that “Aha!” Moment when you put the peices together. Then this show proves you very wrong. There are twists at every turn.

Hi! POI is my all time favourite show, and I am so glad someone is doing the great work of documenting this show ep by ep on YT. I adore all the stuff with Nathan and Finch, one of my favourite relationships on the show and such an amazing contrast to the relationship actors Emerson and Cullen have in LOST. I watched this episode again for the first time in a few years a few days ago and missed the Jessica being on screen flash. Interesting that the Machine and Reese were thinking about similar time frames. Also is this the only non-machine flashback with the colour grading change like that? It seems like a very early crutch as when we need to know things about the character's thoughts we generally see the Machine access it as a relevant information dump. Can't wait for more!

Yay, another POI Guide installment! I've never done a rewatch so I don't have a good sense of how early certain things actually got seeded in, but even the first time through I had the sense that they lingered on the name on that evidence box for a reason. Oh, I had NO IDEA. At the time it felt like, just, "Oh, so there's going to be a Season Arc, okay" and... no. No idea. None. Unprepared for what really happened. Ha.

I'm looking forward to going "oh so THAT'S what that meant" a lot more throughout this series lol Also I am currently re-watching everything for the first time in a few years, usually I only make it to like the beginning of season 2 but we're going strong on S2 E14 now 😎

Another great recap. Admittedly John's relationship skills with his ex leave something to be desired aha. But I did always enjoy those scenes of him and Jessica in the airport. Thought they were generally relatively effective.

Ok this is really getting on my nerves I love the first season and your acting like I was some average tv crap until later and it wasn't . I was great from the start in my opinion . And giving people that hasn't seen the show yet the impression that the first season is some choir they have to get through to get to the good stuff is annoying as hell
