The calendar and flip phone is a nice touch. It's rare for games (or books or movies) to take place in a specific year in the recent past, like 2009. That's mostly left ambiguous, which makes everything seem less real in a way.
@Lordilucas128 ай бұрын
it's funny because the original also took place in 2009, but back then it was the near future (Persona 4 did this too, which takes place in 2011, and is also likely why persona 5's calendar perfectly lines up with the calendar for 2016, since that game was meant to come out in 2014.)

I'm surprised that the PC Version omitted Ray Tracing toggle. But at least we can still find a way to forcefully enable it. Edit: scratch that; PC Version actually has RT Reflections, it's just that the way *how* they handle Reflection Settings is entirely based on whenever or not it support DirectX Ray Tracing or not, if it doesn't do RT: then it'll use screen space reflections instead. This is unlike how most games handle their Ray Trading settings, where it's a separate toggle. That; having the ability to force UE4's Anti-Aliasing system via .ini files.

I did not expect Ray Tracing in any way, so that's a neat surprise. Although it is used very sparingly, it seems to have solid implementation. For PC though it's odd that there is no option to turn Ray Tracing on or off though. @@RoyKoopaling The problem with OG Persona 3 is that you either have controllable party members and VN style in P3P, or traversable environments but no controllable party members in FES. there was no way of playing it as a complete experience
@RoyKoopaling9 ай бұрын
@@otozm92 I thought FES gave you controllable characters? Either way, this is a personal thing and I know it’s not popular, but I liked the idea that you didn’t control the other party members. I often wish they developed on that and made it like it’s own thing that evolved where the characters got better, etc, as their social links levelled up. I just thought it was immersive.

The lighting in _Sporfoken_ didn't seem phenomenally bad to me from the footage given, but when I look at footage of the _Persona 3 RELOAD_ dormitory, I can't help but see the characters as floating. Also, I never played the original game, but the brightness levels and shadows of it in the footage shown here seem much more right, while the new dorm seems to have a more appealing use of color. Maybe an update could put it somewhere in-between and make everything "just right."

Just finished a playthrough and 100% agree about the lighting, especially the interiors. It gives the environments such a sterile look compared to the dark, moody atmosphere of the original. Here’s hoping for an adjustment.

After seeing Ray tracing enabled in Avatar Frontiers, it's quite surprising to see it dropped on the S in a game that definitely has a whole lot less going on in any scene than Avatar. A testiment I guess to how good Massive are, it's making me more excited for Star Wars Outlaws.

I do think the original Persona 3 had better atmospheric lighting and wasn’t as overly bright, which fit the tone and setting of the game a lot better. It looks too “pretty” now, which isn’t a good fit for what Persona 3 was trying to do. It reminds me too much of Persona 4 now, which was very colorful but at least it made more sense for that one. P3 had a different and darker vibe. Also, looks like Xbox Series X version does drop frames in crowded mall areas.

Strangely enough, P3 has a special place in my heart even though I've never finished the game. I remember playing this when I was going through a tough time in my life and this game provided me some comfort. I've never played the PS2 version but I did hear it is the recommended version vs the PSP. I'll definitely check this out.

It’s worth mentioning that Tartarus is to the Persona 3 games what mosf of Mementos is to the Persona 5 games, so in both cases they are procedural and devoid of puzzles. While there’s criticism to be leveled at Persona 3 Reload’s dungeons vs. Persona 5 Royal’s dungeons, if you are comparing like for like, that would be comparing P3R’s full moon missions to P5R’s palaces - where neither is procedurally generated but P5R’s are much more substantial. It’s been bizarre watching so many reviews compare Tartarus to palaces instead of comparing them to Mementos.
@cwega24633 ай бұрын
not really true though? Tartarus IS the dungeon crawling segment of the game. it’s 95% of it. the full moon segments are mostly just a cutscene and a save room before a boss, and there’s like two or three instances where there’s a structured segment to play through before, but it never lasts longer than 5-10 minutes. P5’s bill IS the structured palaces. i’m Royal, there’s 9 of them. and each take anywhere from 3-6 hours to get through. AND then there’s the procedurally generated mementos too, as a side thing to do throughout the game. while both tartarus and mementos are huge collections of randomly generated floors, the complain is that in a modern perspective next to other games, that’s all P3 has, and it gets repetitive fast since there’s literally no change in gameplay for over 260 floors. mementos is not only much shorter (just over 100 floors), it’s also only going to be about 25% of your total dungeon crawling time in persons 5. the bulk are the much more interesting palaces, with more unique themes, music, enemies, puzzles, gameplay differences, level design, etc. it’s not really a flaw of the original game, since it came out so long ago it’s unfair to hold it to modern standards. but P3R could have at least tried to add more structured content, or just more variety into tartarus, but in the end it feels like the bare minimum.

5:22 ATLUS and P-Studio use either Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne's PS2 game engine for their PS2 games, or GFD engine an enhanced and internal Gamebryo (used in Catherine) based game engine for Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal and Persona Dancing games.

As someone who had to pick which game to start the series with, I ultimately ended up choosing P4G as I was convinced out of playing P3 by multiple people (lack of party member control, it was older, not as much QOL, ect.). Now though, it seems like a lot of the issues I and others had comparing P3 to the later entries is pretty much gone so I am excited to try P3R. The absolute worst part about P4G for me is the horrible procedural dungeons, but at least the ones in P3R look better than the ones in P4G lol. It is a shame they couldn't have hand crafted them like the P5R ones.

Yessssss!!! Where to play, was looking forward to this video. :D Edit: Well, that was something.. At least 4K 60 and a little bit of RT I guess. But man, the rest of the lighting and the 3D textures look so bland and ps2 era style. I guess the budget and their time was done after they did the character models? Definitely gonna play but only on gamepass PC. Also, as we know Atlus and everything SMT & Persona, there will be tons of ridiculously expensive DLC.

The ray tracing and the inability to fully disable it cauises the game to have major issues on steamdeck, where it was allegedly verified. I don't think it should be verified until this minor change is made. If it can't be made, that's crazy.
@ThatNormalBunny8 ай бұрын
Just turn off reflections? That's what controls raytracing and switches it to screen space reflections
@tipsy6348 ай бұрын
@@ThatNormalBunny This is not accurate, because while it turns off reflective ray tracing, the lights across the world still use ray tracing to cast shadows. This cannot be disabled with any sitting, including the .ini folder. You'll witness it if you go into the Velvet room or Tartarus after turning off Reflections, the game will tank so hard when you approach any kind of light source.

I'm so excited to play this Friday I recently beat P4 with all the endings and my god I loved the story. I was told by my friends I personally would like the darker story from P3. Which has got me even more excited, also maybe this is a hot take but P5 Wasn't my cup of tea. I felt the story was all over the place and the dungeons while unique felt very tedious if you are going in blind without a guide. I think I actually prefer a grind with a straight forward path and goal so I think I'll unironically enjoy Tartarus.

Yeah, the technology is obviously more advanced, but artistically, this release is a huge step back. Ruined atmosphere, stylistic mismatches, inferior or missing cutscenes, censorship, missing content, etc. I'm not one of those purist who hates every remake, and I don't have anything against this one, but it's so obvious that this isn't the product of love and care that the original release was.
