Persona 4 Golden PC : How to fix choppy cutscene

If you use a laptop, tablet and has choppy cutscene playback problem, setting the device's power mode to "Best performance" may help.
I tried running the game on the Surface Pro 6 (Core i5 8250 - Intel HD 620 model without active cooling fan). In default power mode, the CPU frequency remains low during playback and causes choppiness. If I set the mode to "Best performance", CPU frequency stays high during the cutscene, thus fixes the problem.

it's due to the Intel Iris Xe Graphics driver. go to discussion on steam and click the one about Intel Iris Xe Graphics go to the link and download the new driver. fixed it for me.

No guarantees, but using Task Manager to give the game higher priority fixed it for me.

For people with a PC without a battery and with amd gpus. Try to run the game in windowed borderless. With vsync off. It worked for me.

I’m running this on my laptop and I don’t know much about computers. My cutscenes are very choppy as well and I’m not sure how to fix it. Battles can also be pretty laggy depending on how many people there are on screen. If someone can help figure out what I can do to improve my quality, that would be amazing!

First of all, you can try lowering the resolution and graphical setting in the game's setting menu (changing display mode to fullscreen, setting resolution to 1280x720 and rendering scale to 75% helps a lot). Also, what's your pc's cpu and gpu? Or even pc model is ok. Your experience depends a lot on your pc's specs and graphical settings in the game.

@@bryanmoro06 The fastest way to see your PC's specs is searching for "dxdiag" (without quotation mark) in WIndows 10's search box on the task bar (or you can just press Ctrl+R and enter dixdiag into the run box). In the System tab, you can see your Processor (CPU) and memory (RAM). Then in the Display tab (some laptop also has "Render" tab), you can see your graphics processor (GPU). If your laptop has a discrete GPU (nVidia or AMD) aside from the integrated intel GPU, you should make sure that the game uses the discrete GPU and not the integrated GPU. @@bahoaday Alright so... Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU N3700 @ 1.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~1.6GHz System Model: Inspiron 15-3552 Memory: 4096MB RAM I may have gotten this incorrect but I believe my GPU is Intel(R) HD Graphics. That's what is tells me on the Display Tab.

@@bryanmoro06 Then you have the Intel Integrated GPU. So there is no other tweak aside from lowering the game's graphics setting and setting the power setting of the PC (the one in the video, which you have already done). Good luck.

The issue here is for some reason, video playback in p4g takes a lot of CPU resource. Therefore, the fix in the video is for the case when the CPU is powerful enough to play the video but can't because laptop's energy saving profile limit its frequency to save power. In your case the CPU is not powerful enough to run whatever video decoder the game uses. I'm sorry about that. Let's hope Atlus fix this issue soon. Video playback should not use so much cpu resource.

Sorry for the late reply. Because the device in the video is a passive cooled (no fan) Surface Pro 6, I don't set the game at the highest setting. I play it at 1280x720 60Hz with Vsync and Anti Aliasing ON, rendering scale 100%. The game runs quite well with some hiccup here and there. And because it's a 12 inch tablet, I don't really mind 1280x720. If you are using a laptop or desktop, your device likely has a better cooling solution than mine and can set the setting a bit higher (for example 1600x900).

Yes, it will lag less when there is more things on screen. For example, Minecraft will run a lot better at 64 chunks the more RAM you have.

If your laptop runs Windows 8, then you can try switching to the "High performance" power profile in control panel. You can still do it on Windows 8 or 7, just go to control panel, then, power settings, create a new plan, and there must be "High Performance". Just apply the new plan and that must help

This really helped but the game still runs like ass. I've played a ton of games heavier than P4 and never had a crash, but this game lags and crashes constantly. Regardless great video and this helped a bit.

@@bimantorojaya In your case, both the CPU and GPU do not meet the minimum system requirements so the performance is low overall. The fix only helps if you have a decent CPU whose performance is crippled by energy saving mode. I'm sorry about that.
