When done wrong, it can hinder or break certain parts of the story, which this one does with all of the characters. You may find this stupid, but it is a valid critique and why so many people have a problem with it.

Execution aside, at least I could see what they were going for with Morgana and Ryuji’s fight in the Okumura arc…this scene is just meaningless mean-spirited “comedy” that doesn’t even help the plot along.

I really like that they disregard the character's struggle and everyone's development for a sake of a cheap laugh. Dare I say that the developers were very smart and thought this out well. The entire fanbase loves it!

I've always been under the impression that the game's writing tanks pretty hard after Futaba's palace, but WOW this scene alone is worse than every other scene I hate combined. So happy this was changed, even if I think it should've been removed or entirely rewritten.

Yeahhh... nothing of this sort would really work without exaggerated animation for comedic slapstick and over-the-top reaction faces. I'd guess the team didn't realize their idea wasn't working until AFTER they already sunk this effort in, couldn't repurpose the scene into something else, and opted to just strip down what was already there in the hope that the fade to black would let the audience paint a funnier picture in their heads.

@@KewelsBri I've seen that version and my point still stands, even moreso really. The animations just lack the kind of cartoony look necessary to shift the tone of the scene to be more goofy. The fact that it was changed *at least* twice before release really shows that the team couldn't get things to look the way they wanted and couldn't do much beyond stripping the scene down at that point.
