Hello everyone this is my tier list for persona 5 royal enjoy!

Ann is S tier for me, super op, Sleep skills can carry you through the game, her ability to give concentrate to every party member is super op especially if you are going for a Magic build Joker, and overall is just really solid, and her element can combine with Morgana or a wind attack to do big damage, which makes Morgana more useful

Akechi gets held back due to a lack of skills. If they gave him Maegion, maybe Heat Riser and a Fear skill, he would easily be A tier. Even then, I find him ridiculously fun to use.

Yes Ryuji and Ann definitely deal the highest damage and the synergy with Makoto is great. Makoto is just overall the best party member in the game cant recommend her enough.

The problem with kasumi (favorite persona character) is that she joined in the last party and she is not designed for the late game meta. First of all she specializes in physical crits and bless. The problem is that most enemies in the games are immune or resist physical. Tbh to make her even more useful, she should have abilities that are normally exclusive to smt games. For example give her the ability for her bless skills to crit, allow and for her physical damage to ignore resistances.

Honestly she should've been available as soon as shido palace but she had to give her a narrative reason for why she isn't in the Phantom Thieves until third semester or it would've took a lot of rewriting late game

Even though it might mess with the story’s pace a bit, I definitely think Kasumi should’ve joined in Shido’s palace. Since every character had a chance to shine at some point, it would’ve been a great way for Kasumi to learn about the other members besides Joker and actually feel like a friend, I would really like to see her reaction to Akechi since they knew each other probably before Joker. Also having her earlier would’ve given us more customization for her skill set and she wouldn’t have the spotlight taken from her from Akechi as a new party member in Maruki’s palace As for Akechi, I would say he’s at least on par with Haru, if not better. If I remember correctly he has a higher strength stat than Ryuji, plus he naturally has Debilitate and Megidolaon. I do like the idea of a fear skill being given to him but be honest how often would you actually use it. If anything he should have a despair move since it does technical damage with curse skills (if you read a certain book) and fits his character

This is a good tier list, 1. I totally agree that Ann is very underrated, 2. I actually didn’t know that nuke was good for getting technicals, everyone just says makoto is the best only because of her “god tier” healing(I honestly prefer to use morgana as a healer), 3. I thought I was the only one that thought Kasumi was shit, people only think she is good because a lot of maruki’s enemies are weak to light...also she is in only one palace!(overrated). I don’t think kasumi is a bad character by any means but why couldn’t we have just had akechi use light, curse and almighty? He can wield two personas...but just doesn’t cause why not...rip Robin Hood I guess. Kasumi kinda held akechi back gameplay wise.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah it's a missed opportunity not to give him light and curse, it even fits into the lore with him having 2 personas. If you combined Akechi and Kasumi it would probably make for a really good character.

As for Makoto being able to knock down any enemy with a burn, freeze, shock status by hitting a technical is just great and gives her a ton of synergy with Ann, Yusuke, and Ryuji.

I always main Yusuke no matter what. He’s my unremovable #1 fighter. He’s so fun especially when you let him act freely you’ll see him handling the battle by himself like it’s nothing (easier than cleaning his brushes). He even admits sometimes that he alone could’ve taken care of it. I actually think he can solo a palace lol. Allow me to list some points: 1- His refined strength usually lands a critical. If not, then a technical because of the freeze ailment. 2- Most of his physical skills have a passive offensive effect like a chance of critical or powers up after baton pass. And you can rise his critical chance by Black Moon R (Apt Pupil). Note: this accessory also gives him +8 Strength 3- He has the highest agility and you can even make it higher it by going to the jazz club or equipping specific items. He can’t be touched. 4- His awakening skill Hyakka Ryouran absolutely breaks the game. It’s similar to Attis’s So: Apt Pupil + Ali Dance (jazz club) + Hyakka Ryouran + High Agility = SSS Phantom Thief for me :)

I find that he's the most flexible. Given that the innate core of his kit is so small, with him really only needing Vorpal, Brave, Mabufudyne and Evade Fire from his level up skills, he's basically free to get loaded up with buffs or debuffs from the Jazz Bar, which is nice since most other party members really have to sacrifice a part of what they do in order to pick up those skills. I prefer to run the cooling pack on him though, i find the defensive utility of more freezes to be more useful than the offensive power of more crits.

1. Haru is good for her high crit gun attack to try to hit a crit and pass the baton for more damage and psy damage for technicals heat riser is just a bonus but not really needed and her life wall from third form persona is pretty decent too. 2. Makoto is good for a morgana replacement for healing but that's not the reason she is good, it is because her persona's third form giving checkmate for debilitating everyone and the skill for increasing defence for everyone but that is also not a reason why I use her. I go to the jazz club and give her heat riser and debilitate for more support for early game until checkmate to replace debilitate. 3. Ann is good because she can do severe fire damage to everyone and her persona's third form making everyone concentrated is also op for more damage and also how she can make enemies sleep and can do technical damage with that.

Agree with all your points. I played P5 Royal on release and at the time I didn't realize just how nice the jazz club was and ignored it for the most part. The abilities you get from it are really good and if I ever play again ill definitely be taking advantage of that. Thanks for watching!

I agree with this list, and you’ve made some excellent points HOWEVER, I feel like you might be underestimating Haru and Morgana’s late-game potential just a smidge. My team facing ‘Not naming any names’ final boss was Haru, Morgana and Kasumi and I had a very effective strat going with Morgana’s healing just overpowering almost all damage taken and buffing everybody with Haru and doing damage with Joker/Sumire. Very much three sleeper picks

I debated putting Haru higher up on the list, definitely a solid pick. Usually I would lead with her in my party and swap her out once she runs out of mana. I may be underestimating Morgana a tad I just dont think his healing is enough to put him higher than the other party members.

The reason I’d disagree on Morgana is because once Makoto gets Mediarahan, there is basically no benefit to using Morgana over her except in the case of ailments, which are not hard to cover for at all. Morgana pretty much exclusively focuses on healing while Makoto can heal, but also can buff the entire party’s defense, debuff with Checkmate, etc. I’m pretty sure the only support move Morgana gets besides healing is Masukunda which is worse than Marakukaja by a lot imo

@@goldengear1000I’m 2 years late to this but my reason for using Morgana over Makoto is simply that his healing is so good that it basically removes that part from the game. With Makoto you still have to worry about revival and ailments. Plus, Makoto’s damage output without concentrate is pretty lacklustre compared to Ann’s so you’d more than likely just be using Marakukaja and Mediarahan

That final boss team is actually pretty interesting. I used akechi, Ann and makoto while mainly focusing on magic based joker. Ann and akechi have oddly good synergy because she can cause his magic attacks to cost half the sp while he can cause her aoe concentrate to cost half the sp which is super valuable. I also gave spell master to Ann to make her moves cost even less. Honestly makoto barely did anything in this fight because Ann and akechi just weren’t running out of sp so all she did was either use debilitate or target weakness. I had joker using the thermoployae strat so yuskue was kinda useless and makoto’s buffs became useless as well. I also had a healer persona for joker kinda making makoto even more useless other than a backup for joker. I actually ended up replacing makoto with haru mid fight because makoto just wasn’t doing anything. I doubt you will actually read this but I love talking about team comps for the final boss in the third semester

I agree with everything on this tier list, I was surprised seeing Morgana not in last place but after hearing your explanation and thinking it over I agree that he’s more useful than Kasumi. I kept Ryuji in my party for the whole game, he is so good.

Yeah Morgana is at least useful in the early game for the first couple dungeons. Ryuji is so solid, pretty much in my party the entire game aswell.

@@edward_the3rd even though Kasumi is the worst I still found it very satisfying to use her 3rd form persona skill on the final boss, the combination of debilitate from Akechi, god’s hand from Ryuji and Masquerade from Kasumi finished the fight pretty quickly.

P5R really changed a lot of characters from the base game. Morgana and Haru got worse while Ann and Akechi got better. Thankfully best girl makoto is still pretty much the most versatile party member. I 100% agree with your list

Just wondering why you think Morgana and Haru got worse? Did they not get objectively better? Morgana gets pulinpa (high single target confuse) and his persona trait gives him ridiculous healing with even the weakest of healing spells. Haru benefits the most of all the characters from technical ranks because her psy magic can combo with every single mental ailment to force a 1More on 99% enemies. This is even more useful later in the game with the abundance of enemies with no weaknesses. I think Haru and Yusuke are the phantom thieves who got buffed the most as opposed to haru getting nerfed

The thing is that when all the characters get buffed it changes the tier list and as I stated above makoto is the best character in the game. She single handily can do haru job while buffing and healing on top of that. Haru is still good for specific challenges with heat riser and her crazy gun damage but compared to the rest of the cast she even further away on the tier list. I can honestly same the same thing with morgana as he did get buffs but it still wasn’t enough to push him that extra mile. He doesn’t do enough to the point I ever think of taking him instead of Ann, Ryuji or Makoto. It’s funny cause people complain that makoto takes everybody job in the story but she doesn’t. However in game she covers too many roles making other characters look weaker. At least she not as good as Yukiko in P4

I honestly think Haru could switch with Yusuke. The only reason I would use him in my party would be for his 3rd persona skill or if you give him the ring of pride or concentrate from the jazz club, but both work better on Ryuji anyway. And on top of that, Ryuji's 3rd persona skill massively outclasses Yusuke's so... And then Haru indirectly got a massive buff with how technical damage works since she has the element that can hit the most stuff with technical damage, and she is like the perfect counter to the lavenza fight being useful in all 4 phases. I do think she is a bit outclassed by Makoto, as she's more well built as a 'balanced' party member, but I still think Haru is very good.

I feel like Kasumi was incredibly underutilised in terms of gameplay. I almost wish after Kasumi got her persona after Okumura’s palace, she could be used but on certain days. So she’s not apart of the phantom theories but is willing to lend a hand. That way the anime cutscenes won’t need to be changed, and she can still be used in gameplay.

I wonder if you'll include Jazz club and will rings benefit, because those can be used to cover a character's flaw, and provide them with additional abilities. That's one I've done for most of my party members over 5 playthroughs

I know this video is old but I think Akechi is B or low A. Mainly due to the fact that his personas trait halves sp use of support skills. Making it so other party members can use their endgame buffs way easier. Also his physical damage is great which is always good to have on a party member.

Masquerade is quite possibly the strongest physical attack in the game, besides Hassou Tobi, thanks to the accessory Bravery Sash i gave her Arms Master, so hps and endurance aren't as much of a problem as they were before. Also, she specializes in critical but most enemies at tha point of the game resist physical, she's only really useful against Lavenza) 8) Haru (She learns a lot of skills, so it's hard to build her, but I felt like she needed stronger attacks, like a severe psy skill, as Ann and Makoto will always outdamage her in terms of magic damage. Although psy damage are useful in Royal as they can deal good amount of technical damage. Her gun skills are alright, such as her 3rd awakening skill) 9) Morgana (I think Morgana is best used as a Post-Battle healer because in battle he's not very good. His healing abilities are really good, but that's not enough, he has too little hp and endurance. Makoto does everything Morgana does, but better - except for healing - and she deals a lot more of damage) Bonus Rank) Futaba

Yusuke - even with charge and aoe heat riser is still meh but good thing he's upgraded in Strikers Ryuji - besides the aoe charge, changes made to instakill's mechanics was huge Ann - basically Ryuji in terms of DPS but magic based, plus Dormina and Dekaja Makoto - can be both support and dps, esp if you put concentrate and spell master. Only thing holding her back is aoe debilitate. Haru - just fine. can be either magic or gun based but only good thing is that life wall Kasumi - Better used when Ryuji is on the party. I only used her to proc crits against Lavenza Mona and Akechi - not really big on them besides using them as de-buffers and Akechi showtime with Joker

This is a pretty based list. I agree with you for the most part, although I'd say that Morgana should be a bit higher than C tier, and I don't think Yuske is useful enough for A tier. I also really like Haru. It's like you said, if you know what you're doing you can do so much damage with Haru abusing the Tech System. I also found her support skills to be super useful in the later palaces of the game. But yeah, great list!

I would swap Haru and Yusuke My problem with Yusuke is that in the higher difficulties he is Ryuji but worse. Less tanky, less avaiability and Ryuji gets Marakukaja. Yusuke might do 20 more damage? Maybe? But he also recieves more damage as well. As for Haru, yeah at first glance she is underwhelming. But on a closer look someone will notice that she is designed to beat her father at any level, at any difficulty thanks to her AoE Psychic move, and that alone helps since many people struggle against that boss. Psychic elements is also great for technicals. Haru works really well with Makoto, the latter is naturally faster and causes amnesia to the enemy, while the former attacks with Psy. On Merciless, Haru oneshots things left right and center. What's that? Psy is sometimes bad against the enemy? Well Gun skills offer a good alternative, expecially One-Shot Kill which can crit. And as you mentioned, both reflect skills on one character is very useful. The only time this girl stops dominating is when Shido and LastRoyalBoss take Joker on 1 vs 1! I swear she would be S tier if she had a little more avaiability.

My party for OG was Makoto, Ryuji, Yusuke. With Haru and Ann being in the rotation quite often for Yusuke. For Royal I ran Ryuji, Ann, Yusuke solely. Had a lot of fun doing giga physical damage with ryuji and yusuke.

I'd like to correct you about Akechi. You get him late in the game, but not as late as Kasumi. That bit bothered me. Unless you are strictly speaking of his OTHER self. Regardless his abilities with Robin Hood should have been at least mentioned. Even if that's just one palace.

Haru struggles the most from the "not enough skill slots" issue, like Psiodyne, Mapsiodyne, Triple Down, One-shot Kill, Psy Boost, Psy Amp, Gun Boost, Gun Amp, Amrita Shower, Dodge Nuke, Heat Riser and Life Wall from her 3rd tier persona but you can only choose 8 skills

@@oriongear2499 i mean those skills only have a small difference in damage to normal heavy skills but they have a dramatically higher Sp Cost. Both Single Target and Aoe Heavies have 160 power to Severe Single Target 200 or Aoe 180. With the fact the game uses the base powers Sqrt to calculate damage the differences is smaller than it appears. (“Heavy” Bless/Curse skills have 190 base power for whatever reason)

Really good list here. Agreed with most of it except I'd argue Yusuke in B and if it's strictly royal we're talking about then Akechi in B & Haru in A. My P5 endgame party was Ryuji, Ann & Makoto since Charge, Concentrate and defence buffs & healing just destroyed everything. My Royal endgame was Akechi, Haru & Makoto as debilitate and abuse Makoto's forget/Haru's Psy abilities has way too much Synergy to ignore.

Generally if you know where to get items Mona is unfortunately placed into a predicament where one command almost makes him completely irrelevant Due to top tier healing items being really easy to get for example every sunday at church you can get a mediarahan and amrita shower and while they are a fair bit expensive its not hard to get enough money to consistently buy if you rob a few shadows every now. Which is a good reason people will often put him as the worst character usefulness wise because he is a one trick pony who has extremely tough competition with a command button every character is prompted with. This only one example but there are plenty more ways to get healing items and not have to have a frail mage in the field (life stone farm,Goth docs clinic, etc). Thus is the fate of the cat to be a frail blood bag

I still like Mona but she's mostly good for saving items, which is great if you don't grind but given how easy it is to get items Mona isn't top tier by any standard. I ended up healing with joker by the end so the others got switched based on one more time opportunities rather than their stats in the end.

Have not fully watched your video, but here's my list. Btw, I'm ranking them without any Jazz Club skills or any added skills from accessories, but I'm also willing to possibly rank them differently should you give them the right Jazz Club skills. Otherwise, this list would be pretty different. S Tier: Makoto (Basically Morgana but better in every conceivable way. I will say that Mediarahan is kind of better than Salvation though, since a majority of the time, your allies will not be affected by a status ailment by the time you have to heal them. Not to mention the fact that Mediarahan is very efficient for SP costs and is all you will ever need 70% of the time. But what makes her truly S tier is the fact that she's the only party member that can boost all of her stats by +22 by way of Double Stat boost glitch if you equip her best ranged weapon with Judge End. No other party member gains more than +12 for all of their stats because of this glitch, with the other party members being endgame Akechi and Kasumi. Plus, Checkmate is the best third awakening skill along with Ann's party Concentrate, and Gaia blessing makes Ryuji, Ann or Yusuke even more OP than they already were. She will also complement just about any team comp you run her with. Give her Concentrate and Spell Master from Jazz Club, and she becomes an absolute beast.) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A Tier: Ryuji (Not S tier simply because he doesn't gain a huge boost to all of his stats like Makoto. Even without it, still only debatably S tier and not quite. The biggest issue with Ryuji is that he needs to be ran with Makoto in order to take full advantage of his Shock ailment. But like with Ann, he can do the most damage amongst your party members with Charge + God's Hand. He also has arguably the best or 2nd best Passive Trait, which is dangerous when paired with Yusuke and his party-wide Charge. Using him alongside Makoto also means you can use his team attack buff and defense buff together, which are the only buffs you will ever need for mid-game tbh. Best Jazz Club skill(s) is Arms Master, which puts him even closer to being S tier.) Ann (Best party member for early + midgame. Her sleep skill is really freaking good for midgame despite lacking a Sleep Boost, and her ability to apply Concentrate to herself and all allies is a godsend. She also does the most magic damage ofc with Blazing Hell + Concentrate, which is sadly inferior to Ryuji's since it costs a little too much SP to even use, which is more dire than HP for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, she falls apart in the endgame aside from her party wide concentrate. Running her alongside Morgana and Makoto is possibly the best comp for her since I believe her burn ailment can be taken advantage of by Morgana's wind attacks. Best Jazz Club skill(s) is Spell Master, which kind of closes the gap between her and Ryuji.) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ B Tier: Haru (Would be A tier if not for her being indirectly nerfed by Gun ammo reloading after every fight, which she could take advantage of with her Gun attacks in the vanilla P5 against enemies weak to Gun damage. She's also introduced as a party member into the story a bit too late and Psy damage is one of the more useless elements since not many enemies are weak to Psy damage in the late game and beyond. But anyway, she's still quite decent all-around. I would say that she's just slightly better than Yusuke imo. One-Shot Kill is a very powerful skill for most enemies, and her Life Wall is arguably a top 3 third awakening skill for party members. For Jazz Club skills, I'd say Spell Master would make her A tier.) Yusuke (Overshadowed by Ryuji lol. His ice element is pretty good, but the main issue is that he doesn't have a Freeze boost, so his chances of activating Freeze are even worse than Ann and Ryuji's. It doesn't necessarily make him much worse, but then you also have to remember that he doesn't even have access to something like Ice boost/Ice Amp or even Charge, which he badly needs since he excels in Physical attacks. His High Counter isn't particularly useful either since it's only a 20% chance, and even if it somehow feels like it's higher than that, it's ultimately replaced by other skills that he ends up gaining later on. Also, his third awakening skill sounds great, which it is, until you realize that Joker can cast Thermopylae, which has the same exact effects, for only 15 SP whenever you want to if you have Vitality of the Tree trait and Spell Master skill from skill cards. Thanks a bunch, Attis. Fortunately, his damage is still really good despite lacking charge. In fact, he's definitely better than Ryuji in that regard if you don't apply Charge for him. With added Jazz Club skills like Charge, Ali Dance and Arms Master though, Yusuke is practically S tier LOL.) Morgana (Only good for healing and when paired with Ann. Has a really shitty passive trait that is only useful for early and mid-game and is practically useless for late game and beyond. Salvation and Samarecarm are his biggest saving grace, and is literally the only reason I consider using him. Otherwise, he's meh especially since his third awakening skill SUCKS compared to every other party member. However, Salvation costs too much SP, and should only ever be used when in battle. And while it may be true that you could just have him using both Mediarahan and Salvation as part of his skillset, there's not really any reason to keep Mediarahan on him anyway since Makoto already has that skill. Also, Wind as an element kinda sucks in this game from my experience when compared to Nuke, so yeah. Sorry Morgana. Concentrate and Spell Master does make him quite a bit stronger though, which he desperately needs.) Kasumi (Has good physical attack skills overall and is close to being on par with Yusuke in that department. Brave Step is also a damn good skill to have as well, and combining it with Sword Dance makes her even more powerful. Unfortunately, she can only really be used for one palace, and you can't even take advantage of some of the better Jazz club skills like Charge or whatnot since those can only be applied to party members just before September 5 in-game. I'd probably have her ranked as high as A tier if she were allowed to be used as early as midgame since you'd be able to give her Charge AND Arms Master then instead of only Arms Master.) Robin Hood Akechi (Again, same issue as Kasumi. Only usable for one palace. His skills aren't half-bad, but even then, they're not as good as some of Kasumi's abilities are, minus a few abilities. Although Mamudoon and Mahamaon are some of his best skills, him not having Hama or Mudo boost kind of hurts him in that regard. Still, the fact that you can get debilitate on him at level 70 if you do enough grinding, which is just before the late game arrives, does make him a tiny bit better. Unfortunately, he will not be made much better from any Jazz club skills you can get around the time he's in your party. ) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ C Tier: Loki Akechi (They really dropped the ball with this version of Akechi. His skills have practically zero synergy with each other, and I honestly felt like Atlus was just putting on a set of skills that looked real good on paper but were anything but in the actual game. No Almighty Boost or Almighty Amp for his Megidolaon, which only ever does a maximum of around 200-350 damage when not charged with Concentrate... Laevateinn is also somehow worse than any of Yusuke or Ryuji's late game phys attacks for 1 foe, and his third awakening skill is arguably the 2nd worst or the overall worst in the entire game. He does have Debilitate as soon as you get him, but at that point, Joker alone should be good enough to continually proc it. There's literally no reason to use Akechi outside of story purposes, which is just a sad thing to say since Akechi is my favorite character. Would definitely benefit from Arms Master or Ali Dance from Jazz Club, even if only slightly.)

Id honestly disagree with a few placements one being morgana and the second being Loki Akechi Now let let me explain Morgana as good as his healing is, in unfortunately met with the fact with items that do his job, are super easy to get and very common in both the early game and late (i’ll give a example for late).i know that salvation is great however from the moment you unlock the church you can get a mediarahan item and a amrita shower item every sunday (they are a bit expensive yes but money is not hard to get if you want some). Yes morgana is great at his job but however so is the item button and given you bought a fair amount of healing items (not uncommon), he really only serves as a bloodbag in the party menu The cat also suffers from having a unique type of armor thats just weak in comparison to everyone else being around 70-90 less points of defense that honestly really hurts his survivability Loki i think you forgot that his Trait is top tier in third semester (occasionally halving support skill cost) and while it sucks he doesn’t get a good skillset,its a straight up lie to say doesn’t do decent damage (laevateinn has 800 power the same as gods hand and brave blade has 600). His magic while not the best in damage, i would say is actually very cost efficient here is some comparisons Eigaon (and Kougoan) has 190 power (heavy) 12 sp cost Any Heavy spell not almighty, bless or curse has 160 power Blazing Hell 180 power (severe) 54 sp cost Atomic Flare 200 power (severe) 48 sp cost Megidoloan 210 power (severe) 38 sp cost That is some nice damage for a heavy spell though he has mid magic stat (though is gun gives him +12 to all stats coz glitch) and if you give him curse amp he doesn’t really ever need to worry about sp cost to a phys/gun resistant enemy Id put Morgana in C due to being almost completely outdone by a command button saved by salvation but being dragged down more by weak armour that damages what little survivability he has left And Akechi in b above yusuke due to having high damage without needing setup via jazz and a significantly better trait but he still has unfocused moveset that leaves him sometimes being the debilitate guy if the enemy resists phys/guns if you dont give him curse amp I super disagree with you on Rebellion blade being the worst third semester skill It is the strongest spell in the game with a whopping 840 power (myriad truths is 120 x 3 and only beats Rebellion Blade coz how how country makers 2x damage combined with how the game makes multihits hit a but harder) its high sp cost of 99 is moreso to encourage baton passing to him last so that its free. Im not saying its the best skill (imo Ryujis and Anns are the best) its just not the worst. honestly i view checkmate as the worst third semester skill as it doesn’t get much done more then just using one debilitate on the final boss coz the other targets dont attack you, And if you wanna lower all foes defenses use marakunda as its significantly cheaper. Theres only one or two situations i can think of where itd be great however by the time you get it the time for those fights has already passed.

@@helpihavebats6392 yeah, i incorrectly underrated rebellion blade and laevateinn, but i've since changed my opinion somewhat ever since i made my tier list. however, my initial reasons for ranking endgame akechi pretty low were mostly since he could only ever be used for the one palace, and the same could be said for kasumi and robin hood akechi. i think they should be in c tier just for that reason, and because their abilities aren't anything too amazing despite having access to ranged weapons that boost all their stats. also, by the time you get to the final palace, joker alone would have had access to better curse damage without needing to use a curse amp accessory, especially curse AoE damage unlike akechi. his passive trait is, however, made even more OP when combined with God Maker trait from izanagi, which increases the chances of allies' passive trait activating. rebellion blade is definitely a good skill, but it does require setting akechi up with a downed enemy in order to fully capitalize off of it. it only works against 1 enemy too, unlike with myriad truths (180 x 3, just to be correct). you could also give akechi spell master from jazz jin to make it a little more spammable, but there are other party members that i would say need it even more than he does. the fact that it's only usable the day before you fight maruki only adds further insult to injury. i think you're forgetting about the part that myriad truths is made so much stronger not just because of Country Maker but also because of almighty boost + almighty amp + magic ability (things that akechi can't get access to), and doesn't need to be used on a downed enemy in order to do a ridiculous amount of damage with it. i don't think checkmate is the worst third awakening skill, but for the most part, it's still meh. with spell master passive skill and with akechi's passive trait, it definitely does become more useful and spammable so at least there's that. but yeah, you definitely do get access to it at way too late of a stage. all things considered, if this were just a ranking for party members in the endgame, then i would for sure put morgana at the bottom of the list. useless third awakening skill, passive trait, and items that can completely replace a majority of his skills. it's a shame that he doesn't quite live up to the rest of the cast in terms of utility.

@@helpihavebats6392 On the megami tensei fandom, if you look up Myriad Truths, and you go to the bottom of the page where it shows the Trivia section, it has a description saying it does 200 damage per hit (600 on average) without any damage modifiers, which sounds accurate cuz it would be strange if Heavy Almighty Damage was only 120 per hit (considering Megido does that much). My ranking: 9. Morgana, he is pretty much useless. His wind skills aren't that usefull or strong, he specialises in healing although items can fully revive the party and other party members have healing skills that are as good and the fact that he splits magic and strength pretty equally just for miracle punch , a pretty weak move, just makes him bad at everything. Accuracy and evasion nerfs are also not that usefull. 8. Sumire, she mainly relies on critical hits for damage with sword dance, brave step and apt pupile. Her healing ability and bless attacks are nice but not that usefull with bosses. Her biggest weakness is in her hp and sp stats, she just isn't tanky enough to have a physical persona. 7. Robin Hood Akechi, he was only used in one palace but I think it counts. He uses insta kills, which are nice to have for palace exploration. Him having both curse and light skills is nice giving him more versatility and megaton raid is just good to have. The only bad thing is the lack of damage he deals in the boss fight. 6. Haru, she is probably one of the more fun party members to use with psychic skills, barriers and gun moves that can crit. Her down side is that she isn't that usefull outside of Okumora's palace with few enemies being weak to psychic. She can be a decent damage dealer by getting both psy amp and gun amp, life wall is also rediculously overpowered. 5. Loki Akechi, the cool thing about him is that he can deal every type of damage with a good physical, gun, curse and almighty skills. Him having attack master is nice but the highlight is him having debilitate, probably one of the best moves in the game. All round a pretty good damage dealer. 4. Yusuke, he is a good physical user by having the highest attack stat in your party, his multi hitting physical moves pared with ice attacks that can freeze make him good in battle, party buffs with accuracy and evasion are also nice. 3. Ryuji, he is probably the best physical damage dealer having the highest hp and endurance stats. Him being able to be support with attack buffs and shock abilities is really good, what makes him better than Yusuke is that his magic stat is so low making him good in endurance and strength, his magic skills are only to shock the enemies. Him having charge also makes him an immediate good damage dealer. 2. Ann, the best magic damage dealer in the game is Ann she gets so many skills like blazing hell, concentrate and fire amp that can make her into your parties' best damager. You can also make her a good support party member with sleep, one person healing and attack debuffs. Allround just a perfect party member. 1. Makoto, Makoto is just good at everything, she has amazing support with all party defense and healing that just replaces Morgana. She gets a good physical move and she hits hard with the best element in the game, with out a doubt the best party member.

Morgana was supposed to be the healer, instead I just got an Ishtar that costs me 6 SP per Salvation at the end of the game, basically getting rid of the only thing he was good at. So now Morgana is just pure trash tier.

I’m a bit late here but while I do agree with most of this, I refuse to believe that Ann and ryuji aren’t in the same tier. They have the exact same role except ryuji is physical and Ann is magic. They both have aoe charge/concentrate third semester, ryuji can shock, Ann can sleep and burn (sleep is objectively the best status in the game). Ann having dormina so early makes every non boss fight an absolute breeze and she synergizes oddly well with akechi because his trait half’s cost of support skills, possibly halving the cost of aoe concentrate while she can have akechi’s magic attacks cost half the sp due to her trait.

Okay but Sleep past the first couple Palace’s extremely easy to get as an item.Ann is pretty frail where Ryuji can tank. Shock is way better than Burn and Ryuji has better Synergy with party members (Akechi, Haru, Yusuke, Makoto, Sumi and Ryuji can abuse Shock where Burn is only available to Makoto and Mona to use). For the Akechi bit that fellas a Phys guy so he generally like having Aoe Charge more. He doesn’t really care for Megidolaon and Eigaon being halved cost (Megi is generally not worth it and Eigaon is dirt Cheap already).

@@helpihavebats6392 I personally like to play akechi as a debilitate bot and when he doesn’t need to use debilitate, I usually would just use an item during his turn. He might synergize better with ryuji but his synergy with Ann is still there as she can lower the cost of magic skills (idk if it’s just attacking or any moves that cost sp) which can be useful. I like to pair akechi and Ann with makoto for healing as well as her benefitting from both of their traits. Though in the maruki fight she was borderline useless other than the occasional healing because joker had most weaknesses covered while akechi and Ann supported each other and dealt a ton a dmg. Plus Ann’s playstyle is more diverse than ryuji as you can technically play her as a sleep bot, secondary healer, debuffer, or a full on unit when it comes to fire damage.

@@Joey-nc5cf Akechi has Laevateinn which is just Gods Hand (both have 800 power) but trades the ability to Crit for 98% accuracy. He doesn’t get any Boosts for his Magic so they aren’t gonna hurt in any way. Im pretty sure Anns Trait is exclusive for offensive Magic Skills. Her Role as a side-healer is outdone by other characters but also because the item command due powerful healing items being everywhere and are bountiful so you wont run out making this point moot (plus she only has single target healing). Same applies for Ailments because Joses shop has all the ailments you’ll ever want at the cost of basically nothing. Her Tarunda is fine i guess but Ryujis Matarukaja is easily more valuable. So her best bet is generally just going all in on Magic Damage. Which is good but a bit lacking party synergy wise.

@@helpihavebats6392 that’s true but Ann is also considerably better than ryuji for a good portion of the game before they even out. Tarunda is better than tarukaja because debuffs benefit the whole party while single buffs only benefit one person. Once ryuji gets matarukaja then it kinda gets a little better than matarunda but attack debuffs are still pretty good. Ann makes the kaneshiro boss a complete joke with sleep (I don’t think you’d have many sleep items this early if any). In the early - mid game, Ann’s healing, while single target is still valuable as most have dropped Morgana by the time they get yuksue and makoto pushes him further to the bench. So for madarame palace and even kaneshiro palace to a lesser extent, her healing is still good to have, especially since Ann by this point doesn’t have 8 moves she wants to use so it’s not like having dia/diarama is a waste. Ann and ryuji offer different things but I feel as though they are pretty similar in value, I think it also depends on joker and what personas he’s using. I believe in p5 magic attacks are slightly better than physical so some people (myself included) felt more inclined to prioritize having strong magic personas for joker. I see Ann as a sidegrade or maybe a very slight downgrade from ryuji as they offer opposite things which I think puts them in the same tier

@@Joey-nc5cf when you unlock mementos you get Joses Shop and he sells Single target Sleep and Dizzy items for dirt cheap. So yeah it can honestly be very reasonably expected to have quite a few by the Kaneshiro bossfight especially if someone knows the value of Techs. Mid Bossfight if you’re gonna heal its best by either using Joker that early on because hes the only one with access to Divine Grace and Media by that point or using items which are bountiful and powerful. Anns single target healing just means more time until the next significant skill comes along. In that early game Ryuji is still contributing just by being there because His trait will be boosting Yusukes damage. Also Ryujis Phys Skills have higher power than Anns Magic (during the low 40- high 40 Ann does slightly more damage but thats about it). Magic is generally good because of Technicals but Burn is only alright. Makoto can boost it and Tech also Mona. But Mona sucks while Makoto can tag team with Yusuke and Ryuji because Shock is something they all can Tech on top of it not going away in one hit while removing enemy turns. Ryuji gets his Shock Boost way before Ann gets Burn Boost (lvl 32 vs lvl 50). This matters because it makes his Shock rates super consistent. the fact the player doesn’t really get good access to Shock items till Black market does means this matters a fair bit more than the Sleep situation. Ryujis Party Synergy is what makes him fairly better.

It's not just strength that determines how hard a unit can hit, skills play a huge role. At level 30 Yusuke and Ryuji deal around the same damage but once Ryuji learns the skill charge he deals way more damage since charge increases the damage his attacks deal by 2.5x plus he learns Matarukaja which increases his attack even further.

@@mint437 Yeah unfortunately I played P5R on day 1 and didn't really know just how good the jazz club was at the time and ignored it for the most part. If I ever play P5R again I'll definitely be experimenting with the jazz club.

Ok, there is some I disagree with. Please Note, this comes from a Hard Mode play through perspective. The hardest difficulty in the game, also I have played through the game a multiple times, often with restrictions to learn more about the mechanics, so I will take that into account. Firstly you are putting way too much value onto Yusuke. Don’t misunderstand, he is fine but not A tier fine. While his physical moves are powerful if you Batton Pass to him, there is very little reason to do so, since if you can Batton Pass, you can knock enemies down, which means you can hit them with a weakness, considering that by the mid to late game, most major enemies either resist physical moves or can’t be knocked down, this mechanic is of little use against things you couldn’t just brute force easily in any other way. Sure cheesing strong enemies by freezing them is fun but way too reliant on Makoto’s trait to make it reliable. Without the ability freeze boost and Makoto’s trait it is around 15-25% chance to trigger, with both it is at 30%-40 in my experience. But considering how weak his magic is, even when hitting weaknesses it doesn’t do much damage. He also lacks natural access to meaningful team support beyond fishing for the freeze and if you really need that, just toss an ice item and you will likely get similar results. Leaving him to just be a solid damage dealer. B tier with a tendency to drop, were it not for his third persona unique skill. You also overvalue Haru’s deflect, while it does get better with game knowledge it is only single target and more often then not, just attacking or putting a status condition is better support. However there are definitely fights you can heavily cheese with her deflect like Shadow Sae. The biggest weakness of the deflect skills are that they are single target and either magic or phys, which means that you will more often than not waste turns on them.Her real gameplan comes from hitting technicals. Psi moves get technicals from every mental status conditions, making her the most reliable party member to do them, which is especially notable since many party members get spells that set her up, or you can just use consumables for a similar effect. Another bonus is that mental status effects also tend to skip turns, so it is nice to take advantage of that. The main downside of her is that she is not focused. He gets physical moves with the gun moves and both boost and amp with gun and psi, which take up a lot of slots and all are a must, leaving for team support and her stat spread is too balanced to take advantage of either. Also you get her pretty late, so she gets less to do overall. B Tier with tendency to drop. Life Wall is also really good, mainly for not being single target People are massively undervaluing Morgana. Sure Makoto does mostly the same but being a worse version of a top 2 party member isn’t that bad. His trait actually makes him good support for Makoto in the midgame and wind does hit technicals of burn. Cheesing a knockdown with miracle punch isn’t the worst either for when you get it (about 30% chance in my experience, if you would fish for a Yusuke freeze it does the same). He also has a unique situation of being able to set up his own technicals after you read “knowing thy heart”, since he gets confuse and can technical off it. Only Haru with the medium accuracy confuse and Sleep Ann can do the same. Solid B tier. I personally separate both Akechi forms since they work differently but they are both C tier due to lack of accessibility (both locked to one palace), even if they have something unique each. Robin Hood Akechi is the only one with natural access to two elements and Loki Akechi gets Debilitate. The former fails due to having no support options and the latter due to having no way to buff his own damage beyond debilitate and even if there is not severe Curse move, so he infringes on others territory. Yoshizawa is just bad. The reason Riuji gets away with being a bad mage is because he has good team support with the atk boost and cheesing for the shock stun and can hit bosses hard with early high damage single target moves and then go over the top with charge. Sumire got neither. Sure crits are nice and all but unreliable and if you do boost your crit chance, it wastes time that other support could have done just as well. Also she is locked to the end game, giving her few chances to shine. You can’t be a bad mage and do bad single target damage without a crit that doesn’t work against bosses. D tier

For the Mona bit Yusuke has a better Miracle Punch in Giant slice Giant Slice in 30% Crit and 90% Accuracy while Lucky Punch is a 45% and 75% Accuracy. Buf Giant slice is more than a Crit attack and having pretty alright damage. In P5 Mona is generally outclassed by the Item command button because this games gives soo much Items that heal an absurd amount. Setting up Techs for yourself only and an on top of the tech going away when hit isnt good especially when Mona is Fast and often goes first. So that point is kinda moot. Wind doesn’t even really do much outside of save a negligible amount of Sp and Tech off of Ann specifically so one of the lesser elements. Hes the worst character because the game seems to do just about everything to make his good traits moot.

@@helpihavebats6392 The reasons why Morgana is average and not bad is multiplicative. Firstly, you get to use him from the start. This is a massive deal. It means that in the fights where he might come up, he will be accessible. Unlike Everyone post Makoto. He sets up his own technicals. Due to how broken they are, especially on merciless, this means that he either can shred enemies or even better, set them up for you and blank enemy turns. This matters especially in the early game and he gets confuse reasonably early. And for the end game Morgana has one last trick up his sleeve. He has the third highest magic stat out of all companions, while getting both the boost and amp ability. This means that on a neutral target he will do above average damage. I know it can feel like he is weaker than he really is but he isn’t bad. Sure his healing often gets outclassed by items but he isn’t really bad at anything. He has some damage and solid support. Compare that to Yuske, who’s damage is unreliable and doesn’t have good support. Yoshizawa, who has bad damage, bad support and ja locked to one dungeon. Akechi 2, with average damage, decent support and one dungeon and Akechi 1, with bad damage, no support and single dungeon restriction. This makes Morgana better than a third of all possible teammates in an unrestricted run. I also did runs with just joker and a single teammates and I can tell you that after the three best ones, Makoto, Ann, Riuji Morgana is the fourth best teammate in a restricted run. In short Morgana is on the lower end of average unrestricted and lower end of good in restricted play through. Making him an overall average teammate

@@frankwest5388 he wont get to set up his own techs because 1 you need that Tech book and 2 youd have to do nothing with every other character except Joker to actually hit it because Confuse wears off after one hit meaning you lose out on damage because of that. Yusuke Has the Highest Str out of everyone and his skills aren’t bad they’re around Ryujis skills in power until the end where he trades damage for Crits. Monas Mag higher by a few points dude being around 1-5 points at most that’s mostly negligible. (Not including Yusuke and Ryuji because they focus on Str) For the Akechi bits 1 Prince Akechi has Debilitate if we’re talking about endgame stats (Jazzclub not giving this at that point) and that alone does more than what Mona really offers in battle but if we’re talking about normal levels for the time he has dual Coverage and alot of Saes Palace have weaknesses to Bless and Curse with is pretty big also Megaton Raid (25% Crit) with a relatively good Str stat at that time is great. For Dark Akechi He still has Debilitate Naturally but now he has Laeveitenn Which is as strong as Gods hand but trades Crit Rate for 98% Accuracy whole still having good Str making him better than Yoshi for Phys Techs. Also if Given Gun Amp as an Accessory his Riot Gun is similar to Blazing Hells damage with Boost+Amp Mona has pretty bad Armor which hurts this already frail Character. Yeah Monas available for for the whole game but he spends most of that time being either outclassed or unnecessary to use given his best use is out of battle healing. In battle he just doesn’t offer anything that great and the few good things he has going is either better done by other characters or more consistent and safe by others. There are way better ailments to inflict for techs (Shock sleep Dizzy etc) because Confuse is very limited for elements that hit it and doesn’t really do much when you use it as an ailment itself.

@@helpihavebats6392 Akechi 1 will never reach debilitate u less you overlevel to the point where it wouldn’t even matter. This is the same argument as saying “just find to max level”. And physical damage is not really good in the end game, since you can’t boost it as easily as magic. It’s also the most resisted element in the endgame, making it even more unreliable. I admit his defense are pathetic and the whole “paper tank” thing they were going for with him would have never worked. But in most practical gamestates teammates bulk won’t matter much. Also you underestimate how important availability is. The overall strength of a character is based on average performance during the game. This is why late and endgame characters and gear are allowed to so massively outclass early game stuff. It’s to compensate for the fact that you will barley get to use it. In other words every fight before you unlock a character as a fight where they are unusable. Imagine a point system. Where every fight you have during a game the character from “literally unusable = 0” up to “so good it trivializes the challenge = 10”. Maybe if a fight is especially important you can multiply that value. Then you add up the total points and compare them. You will see that the character that constantly gets average points in almost every fight will likely get more overall than the one that gets 10 every fight they are in, but only gets 0s otherwise. It’s like comparing your starter in Pokémon to Mewtwo. Sure Mewtwo statistically outclasses every starter but since you have to basically beat the game to even get it, it won’t matter, since by the time when you finally get it, there is little to use it on. I admit the self technicals will rarely be the optimal path outside of very specific circumstances but they are a strong option nonetheless. So I had to bring them up. Now this also matters more in Merciless, since they are completely busted there but blanking an enemy turn and then getting to destroy them with Joker is still very powerful. It’s often the best ways to deal with strong shadows for grinding purposes, unless you have a more specialized set up.

Thank you for the comment! I can see why you would put Morgana over Haru because of how early he joins and the healing throughout the game is nice. When you get to the mid-late game Haru is great for boss fights with her party wide protection buffs which is why I have her higher than Morgana. If you ever get the chance to play P5 again give her another chance shes great!
