A shame they didn't have the balls to Toshiro to have a phantom thieve costume, they done so well with Zenkichi becoming the Wolf

Even worst they gave him a rather good looking mask but had to put it literally at the end of the game when you realize the only remaining boss is the randomly included `god` brought forth by some collective desire (or in this case Toshiro`s desire it seems), since the 4th thru 6th bosses are literally just grayed out `stat boosted` copies of the previous bosses. WE DIDNT EVEN FREAKING GET REAPER AS A SECRET BOSS FIGHT AND ATLEAST Q AND STRIKERS ATLEAST HAD THE BALLS TO DO THAT. Which double hits harder that he CANT do most of the mechanics the phantom thieves do in this yet serves as a game breaking 4th party member addition, does not have a melee attack or standard gun move, just being locked to a `persona attack that costs no SP`, can have both Eri and Toshiro at the same time, despite the former is his Persona, yet the Persona can freely change between both states & gave the idea based on the promotions the game was focused on her instead of her being less of a presence then even Sophie from Strikers. Which feels like the most giant fking design contradiction by Toshiro`s Shadow was NOT his persona and was a entirely separate shadow or something, despite ALL four dungeons were based in his psyche yet were magically `not` castles or `not` jails, but something entirely different with no real explaination how, cept mr. magical god shows up to make up some rules. I definitely made the right call to avoid this game and get super mario rpg remake instead.

Exactly, it would of honestly been better if it was just a Shido used again because not only was it a multi-phase which had multiple forms, it even really upped the freaking ante when everyone but Joker got blown away to make the stakes in the fight REALLY huge feeling. Plus of course being on a much more personal level then just random god with a `savior complex` or some shiz because of a very bias look on a very specific set of people `wishing` for certain things but also mangling what a large number of them likely meant. Which imma bring up Shin megami Tensei V, which despite some of my annoyances in the game, i did enjoy the fact you had 3 paths with `different final bosses` sort of that even had unique forms as the `final boss` in the game(including fighting them in a more basic form before that, which end up being Devils you can use in the game, especially for later playthrus), since lets not remember that a certain Iconic figure exists, but if he has to be brought up, his own Nahobino form or however you spell it was also kind of a interesting take that also played into the lore of SMTV set up for its own game.@@adamH.1

Since Phantom X mobile game was confirmed for Japan localisation and server, it's possible Toshiro will have a proper scale and Phantom Thief design as an upcoming playable Phantom Idol.

I think Toshiro not getting an outfit is fine. Besides the unique nature of his awakening with Erina, he ditches the single glove to show the scar he got when trying to save Eri. It's subtle, yeah, but it's a cool way to shoe his resolve and the change Eri did on him that lead him to throw away the thoughts that created his Shadow

Or because it was so late in the game they didn’t even bother to fking give him one in the first place. Even zenkichi in persona 5 strikers had a good 3 or so more ‘jails’ to give him plenty of room to shine, Toshiro got done dirty with his coming at the END of the third kingdom and the final one ended with the random arse god and padded it out with THREE METALLIC replicas of the previous bosses, while just repeating the same crap and no real changes to the fight itself. Even a darker version of a business suit like an ‘agent’ motif that could of been complete with some silver fineary like gloves with silver thread weaves in, those puffy white collars that you especially would be familiar with if you know who Miles Edgeworth is, just literally classi’ness. Would of been perfect MINOR alterations for a ‘phantom thief’ attire which is SUPPOSE to represent thar resolve of rebellion. Seriously the fact it was a one eyed mask would of been perfect to give him a outfit that gave off the vibes of the ‘phantom of the opera’ but with a more modern ‘suit’ added to it, even more so if it gave off a conductor vibe and instead of an actual weapon he wielded a conductor wand and had a old English pistol instead of just having Eri be the gun instead. I would not be amazed if WHEN they add Toshiro to Persona 5X, they give him just that just like loads of mobile games like to shove in mobile exclusive outfit designs.

Thats like saying Joker and the cast `NEVER` needed to wear phantom thief outfits because thar personas had it all`along. Which further does not make sense why they dont change back into normal cloths when `calling` personas, when its just the masks that vanish during said casting. Statement still stands because they had him `officially get a persona proper awakening` at the literal end of the game and he can suddenly tank hits just fine like the rest of the cast, its literally just they were too lazy or did not spend the time to give him even the most blandest looking attire, despite they had no issue giving him a mask yet never have him really `wear it in combat` as far as i can tell. Now remember who else got a `phantom thief attire` near the end of his game? A certain villian at the end of Persona 5 Royale, even if it was more of a `savior` outfit, was still under the same notion, same could also be said for one of the main major villians with Persona 5 Strikers, even if that was more of his Shadow or something along those lines. Also on that topic, its kind of a shame they skip the whole second look or `combat mode` for all the `bosses` this time around, because it was always a nice attachment to show how serious they were. @@BladeSerph You do realize how unique the situation was in the situation, right? Did you ever hear about my argument about the whole "Anima and Animus" bit in a couple of other comments? Shadow Toshiro and Erina are two parts of himself, and Erina was his rebellion, his strength. PTs accept their Shadows fully, while Toshiro rejected the half of his Shadow that hated pain, aka Shadow Toshiro. Hell, Ernesto is a male, yet he was formed into Erina, based on her looks completely. He doesn't see his rebellious spirit as his own, but as Eri. Plus Salmael interfering basically caused Toshiro's Shadow to split into Shadow Toshiro and Erina. All and all, I would count this as a "complete" awakening. Only way for the awakening to be complete is for Erina and Shadow Toshiro to somehow become one, but that would be rather difficult.

Technically he does have an outfit, through Erina as she's his rebellion side. However, since Tactica took place in Toshiro's cognition Palace/Jail under the control of Samael, his shadow being split and the need to maintain Erina's existence, not having a combat form is a trade off. Considering Toshiro still remembers his experience and took a stand against his corrupt family members, it can be assumed that Toshiro still has his Persona. Under normal circumstances, Toshiro might have a proper Phantom Thief form in the future, likely appear in future follow up narratives and Phantom X mobile game as a playable Phantom Idol.

Its kind of a Shadow Labrys situation, I guess. A shadow/persona that has developed its own consciousness, but still part of their original person. Toshiro is interesting cause he has multiple shadows, one representing his repressed will of rebellion, and the other being the representation of his repressed bitterness and shame for his past rebellion (misdirected at Eri since she sent him on that path) that trappes him into cowed obedience, and self-loathing for hurting others. Both are repressed forms of resentment, and both these hidden parts of Toshiro have been at war within himself for a long time. (Though since Shadow Labrys has her own persona, Labrys might have 2 personas within her too? And Akechi has two personas which represent his heroic idealism and his bitterness.)

Most giant disappointment because i would of expected Jeanne because of the revolution angle, but instead of getting two exclusive playable characters, like Strikers did, like the original Q did, like how Persona 4 Ultimax and Climax did (technically), we just got a cookie cutter revolutionary who was more of a stand in bait for a random inclusion of a politician, which the story cant even be considered canon to the base game since Tactica takes place `immediately after the base Persona 5, yet the DLC wants to play massive fudge`bars by taking place BEFORE Akechi turned traitor yet AFTER he teams up with the Phantom thieves, implying it must of happen in-between after the start of Sae`s palace, but before they finished it up either. I swear i hate multiple continuity shenigans especially when they wanna do multiple continuity in the SAME GAME.

K first of all Persona Q being a entirely different game that might as well be using the `rules` of all involved persona games kind of means alot of leeway can work on ends. But the point still stands even if Zen and Rei are doing a power share dynamic, they were still more organically done compared to Toshiro suddenly using persona abilities, NOT getting a `outfit to represent his rebellion to some norm that weights him down`, but they did the entire song and dance with a UNIQUE MASK, the bleeding effect and the mask ripping which should of had him get said outfit. Since unlike how Persona 3 is a latent potential to resist the dark hour influence, Persona 4 is confronting society`s view of you & making peace with it, Persona 5`s personas always work by rebelling & donning a attire that represents that resolve. Morganna being the exception because unless you been living under a rock, you know why that `Mascot` breaks the rule for good reason. Regardless, they changed up the formula on how the whole persona bit works with Toshiro`s case a bit too much, by having a `Palace`, that trapped its `owner` in it, the `Palace owners` being Cognitive representations of what they see, yet weirdly has one that calls itself its shadow and somehow explained to be his `real intentions`. But at the same time having his actual persona able to freely work as a separate entity without issue at all and didnt just simply merge back with Toshiro for the latter to take her place, gaining her abilities but also be enhanced by being a `complete character` then a Persona facimilie. Atleast with Sophie`s case she was an A.I. that took a humanoid form due to some cognitive elements and she was IMITATING Persona abilities by recreating them until she got an actual persona herself at the near end of that game. Hell, the fact they already had a case scenario of someone going inside thar own mind in the case of Futaba, really screams home that Toshiro`s persona should of been in the same vein as a shadow, but just like how they wanted to change how the `eyes look`, they just changed things up for a bait n switch on who the actual MAIN FOCUS of the game was. with how they especially handled the trailers and initial opening parts of the game itself. @@PatManDX

Not really because total sum of repressed thoughts embodying his "shadow" is both the antagonistic shadow self in front of him as well as Erina, there are also other instances of one's Shadow coexisting with their Persona counterpart and going berserk regardless due to unusual circumstances such as the intervention of a third party (like a god)

Something about the P5 Spin-offs I notice/like: -Adult Party Members -"Not every adult with power is corrupt or evil" -Little Flanderization with the character's writing (Unlike Q) -Music is different, yet similar to the OG -Joker really likes using his gun instead of his knife -Lavenza gets more priority than the Twins. I'm happy about that, she didn't get much in the OG, so it's nice she gets her chance to shine here and in Strikers/Royal. That's pretty much all i noticed. Good on you, Atlus.

something else i like is the gods in these to some extent. like, i've only known salmael for like 5 minutes from this video but i actually already agree with it. Another thing is they have another interpretation of Yaldabaoth, Strikers has the Demiurge… nothing else to say there, and Tactica has Samael, (a purposeful misspelling of Samael (they purposefully mispronounced Satanael don’t be surprised)) who in Gnosticism is- you guessed it- ANOTHER YALDABAOTH! Though unlike Yaldabaoth, Salmael is also a figure in Talmudic and post-Talmudic scripture as an archangel who is the accuser and adversary, as well as the seducer, the destroying angel and the Angel of Death, who in Midrashic text is a member of the heavenly host who gets the grim and destructive duties, maybe to be used as a scapegoat angel I don’t really know much about that

I find the detail contradictory that Toshiro didn't transform when he woke up.. Erina is a personas.. I was thinking of a gunslinger but with machine guns instead of hands, not legs In Striker it is demonstrated with Wolf that adults also transform and also in Phantom X

Technically spoilers but: Kasumi also becomes Sumire's Persona (after Sumire breaks of Maruki actualization and he breaks cendrillon, Sumire can't summon properly her Persona. With the help of the real Kasumi, she reawakens Cendrillon). Although it's the first character on maintaining her individuality after becoming a persona

Because Ernesto isn't just Che Guevara, but also made in the image of Eri, who he idealizes as the image and inspiration for his own rebellion. Kind of a unique case for Toshiro. Also probably to distance themselves from the actual irl figure. Che Guevara is somewhat mythologized in leftist and revolutionary movements, but like all revolutionary figures, he was likely more complex than how he's presented, and is rather controversial. Doesn't change the fact that him as a concept represents an ideal, even if it's potentially contradictory to reality and I think Ernesto is meant to be representarive of that image over the real person. Persona as a series tends to prioritize concepts and myth over accuracy to make its points, afterall.
