My interpretation of the film is that they are the same person... Alma is another word from soul, and I think that's what this character is... Alma is Elizabet's soul who have been trapped inside of her for so long, because she was always playing characters and not being honest with herself. Now her Soul wants to finally take control, she wants to be Elizabet, and stop acting! Or at least is what she thinks she is doing, because, as the Doctor said she could play that part of being mute as long as it was intersting... So maybe she didn't really free her Soul for real, but just started playing another part! And that's the question that stays on my mind of all of this: Can we really be ourselfs? Or We will just play characters for a while, and then replace that for another when is not interersting anymore? Just my two cents on the matter 😁
@nuzza4432
@nuzza4432 2 жыл бұрын
the way you interpreted this difficult movie is so insightful, I also think the same Elisabeth lost her own self while playing the roles of others, its as if when someone tells you not to behave some kind of a way and you start to disolve and apart your persona, play someone else. we are always changing our masks but I still think it was Elisabeth who wanted to be Alma. Elisabeth lost her conscious and Alma is a caretaker like her subconscious part of persona who wants to bring her consciousness back. as if she is the cure for herself but in the end she stays what she says " nothing" total emptiness. she switches herself again and becomes empty . Alma could not win over her ,the cure did not work. and in the end only the mask is left on the screen, someone undefined.
@solame10101
@solame10101 2 жыл бұрын
I have some similar interpretations. I've only just watched the movie for the first time so its quite barebones but it seemed like Elisabet is the self, and Alma is the body and unconscious. Obvious tragic events eventually made her split, and so the masquerading was not possible without both working together to make up the whole. The nursing unconscious is trying to have a dialogue and heal, but Elisabet simply isnt ready and wont respond. Alma is primitive and doesnt reflect on her own but only speaks everything impulsively, while the actor is supposed to compliment that and select what is appropriate behavior for display. So in the end she seemed broken still, the dialogue never happened. It is interesting to me that she was willing to listen to it all but never engage.

I guess the beach scene explains everything,it happened with one of the persona and in some a way it bothered her mind so may be she created alma in her mind (also she is a actor it could be one of the role she played)alma literally means soul and persona in Latin means mask so may be in the beach story with Katarina and two boys actually there was Elizabeth who was with them and she is just telling it to herself you can see Elizabeth never speaks it's only alma and alma also says nobody listens to her you are the only one so basically alma (internal self) is just a soul of Elizabeth and Elizabeth is just mask (external self)
