sPOT is a service on the GLOBALSTAR LEO satellite network. A similar capability also exists for the IRIDIUM LEO satellite network. There a variety of subscription services available with the service. Both satellite systems are in low earth orbit consisting of multiple satellites providing global to include the Arctic and Antartica.

Very thorough explanation...last year we met a rider who used one of these. At first, when you were holding it out your window, I thought the device was beeping...then realized it was the truck backing up. Very cool that you previously did search and rescue with the Civil Air Patrol. Flex subscription sounds reasonable...

Often wondered if a satellite locator was in your gear bag. I use a similar device for snowmobiling up here in Vt. On Jan 1, off April 1. If the Spot device allows I encourage you to test the actual SOS feature before you actually head out on your first season’s ride with the device. For me it’s as simple as submitting a test form by email to the call center with my requested date and time of test. These electronic devices sure can be life savers and give peace of mind where cell coverage might not exist. Great video!

It is odd, but we took delivery of our PLB two days before the news hit about the couple in NV. With my background with Search and Rescue, I was not going to chance it.
