I've had the same one for about 5 years. My buddy at Border Force told me the same thing, that they will dispatch a search and rescue team straight away. You do need to register them though. Test my battery every 6 months. Lives in the centre console.

PLBs are ideal for getting help in the most remote places on earth, including oceans.

I spent 30 Years in Search and Rescue, consequently I never leave Home without My PLB. Even though I have Mobile Phones and Two Way Radio onboard, My PLB is My Last Resort Guarantee of Help and Rescue.

Need a epirb legally if 2 nautical miles from the coast iirc. Epirbs are required to float by AS/NZ while PLBs arent

I'm not 100% sure about Queensland, but in WA and the NT you need to register your device with the police, otherwise, a signal will be transmitted, but it won't be sent anywhere.
@evanmiris57654 жыл бұрын
The reason you have to register the device and it's code is so they know who they are looking for , before they scramble the search and rescue wasting time and money they can ring your family or try and contact you to make sure it's not a false alarm. There have been many instances where they have been thrown out and have been set off at a tip by the excavator and have had rescue response turn up for nothing or they have been stolen and thrown into a river and out to sea with search and rescue wasting time looking for nothing.

Anything like that in the USA?
@jshepard1524 ай бұрын
USA is one of the countries that developed PLBs. Rescues are dispatched by the US Air Force. But they work worldwide. Look at the ACR ResQLink 400 or similar.
