we blend white sugar with organic cane sugar. it works well for jams etc without it being pure white sugar. we use it 50/50. We also keep out hydrogenated oils. We have replaced home made whip cream for those little sugar bombs called marshmallows in coco. The taste of rye bread really comes from caraway seeds so we make mock rye bread using reg flour and adding caraway seeds. Mary is so informative and helps so much by sharing so much information. ty ty Mary

Premixed formula in cans usually change color and flavor close to the best buy date. Alimentium formula is usually good for babies and toddlers who can not have cow milk or soy bean formulas. Ask your doctor if he would recommend that formula as a backup. When my son was a toddlers I would add a teaspoon of pure concord grape juice to the bottle of Alimentium formula. He loved it. It does turn the formula grayish in color. Other shelf stable formulas is canned goat milk or coconut milk with no additives. It's two of part water to one part coconut milk or goat milk. The book by Adele Davis called Let's Have Healthy Children, the book talks about a lot of old fashion ways to do things.

When I make elderberry syrup (it’s actually an immune boosting syrup with other ingredients) as the liquid is cooling and not too hot, I add hibiscus flower and sometimes I add separately made pine needle tea for a large vitamin C boost. After straining, I usually freeze dry the decoction. Then I have instant syrup mix. I just add warm water and raw honey to mix it for use. I’ve been selling packets to people at church who make a pint at a time. Several people say they have amazing results.

Mary you are a giant now in the traditional food community. I'm so happy I found you. omg I almost cried when your "cameraman" came over to mush up on you. So sweet. Re: Feeding babies with nonperishable, dehydration comes to mind, such as pumpkin puree, etc. I had to have a lactation specialist help me with breastfeeding. It was so worth it, convenient and great to know you can feed your baby if you are stuck out of the house or can't find formula. I also used that bottle that hung around my neck with a tube so my baby didn't have to work so hard to get the milk.

I saw the tears in your eyes when you were speaking of those alone at Christmas and that touches my heart and it brought tears to my eyes too. My mom is almost 93 and I try so hard to make her feel like an important person as well as those adult single people, so many hurting people who have had bad things happen to them and must feel so very alone. I hope you have a very blessed and Merry Christmas! You are a blessing! ~Amelia at My Forest Cathedral blog spot.

For women who are nursing consult with a nutritionist and or your doctor on what to eat when food is being rationed because the pantry is low during emergency situations. My nutritionist said to eat one avocado, one egg and one non alcoholic natural beer daily and drink extra water. Also to consum a natural electrolyte drink daily because when your electrolytes get too low when nursing it will cause bad headaches.

Mary, I laughed so hard when you described yourself as a little tomboy, and a tough kid! That was me as well, only the rural version. Also a fifties kid, I had 2 older brothers and I knew how to stand up for myself, or if I couldn't, I was off on my trusty bike, or down the tracks, or off into the woods in back of our house. I didn't like dresses, and always had baggy shorts and t-shirts, and loved rooting around in the garden. My Mom died when I was young, and I learned how to take care of myself pretty early, and still am very independent. Good for you! Love hearing more about YOU!

Hello Mary! God bless you on this fine day that He has made. I’m writing to ask you about books to put in a traditional food’s library. I have Sally Fallon’s nourishing traditions, it started my traditional food journey. I would like to get your suggestions on “complete” reference type cookbooks: for fermentation, for sourdough, for canning ( especially pressure) etc. I love watching you teach me so very much about all of these, but I am concerned that one day we may not have that blessing, thus good reference books would be a welcome alternative. I am asking you because there are so many of these type of books and they all claim to be the “one” I need…you are so knowledgeable on these things would direct me. Thank you so much.
@diannamc367 Жыл бұрын
As for canning, especially pressure canning, I would suggest "The National Center for Home Food Preservation Complete Guide to Home Canning". This will give you a full knowledge of the how and why of canning based on full testing along with recipes. The Ball Blue Book and The Ball Complete Guide to Home Food Preservation are also highly recommended and they do alot of their own testing and include recipes too.

Your Channel is Fabulous! Thank you for sharing! Question 😮 I made 2 loaves of your Easy Sourdough bread- just last night! BUT, 1 loaf had some holes, and was some what edible, although, the second loaf was Way to doughy, not much rise, and I put the Organic apple cider vinegar into my mix. I had even purchased a coated cast iron dutch oven with lid. I like how this helps make the beautiful Crust. I have a goal to make Artisan Bread for my family. I used Organic flour with 11% protein - next time I will use organic bread flour. What tips can you give me. Thanks!

Mary, you probably know about it, but you can tindalize food in jars (boil jars 3 hours first day, let cool over night, then 2 hours next day, let cool over night, and boil the 3 rd day for 1 hour, and let cool completely) those jars will last for 2 or 3 decades in a cool dark place. This method has been used since beginning of time and it's tried and true. People in EU can not afford special contraptions and they have managed preserving food very well without them. You can tindalize anything you cook. Chicken soup, Gravy with meat in it, potatoes and vegetables

Mary! Your wisdom and our Lord hearing prayers, I believe, saved my husband’s life. Mid December he he spiked a 104.7 fever. We thought virus so I started pushing bone broth and herbs. He went to the dr and had a ton of tests done 4 days into the fever. Everything was looking like a virus until the tick panel came back positive for Rocky MT Spotted Fever. He went 11 days before the diagnosis because of the time of year (ticks in December?), his symptoms looked like a virus and it was over Christmas so labs were behind processing bloodwork. Anyway, from everything I’ve read on RMSF if you don’t have antibiotics by day 4 or 5 people don’t recover. I’m so grateful for your teaching because even if the nutrition and herbs couldn’t heal the bacteria I do believe it helped his body fight until he was able to get on the antibiotics. He’s still gaining his strength back and your advice continues to help in that area as well! Thank you!!! I can’t imagine my family’s life without our rock of a husband/daddy. ❤️

Regarding finding resources for foraging or growing in your area I always recommend connecting to any local Indian tribes or indigenous peoples group, as they typically have a long history of natural cures that are specific to an area.
